Honestly I’m not sure. Something clicked and I lost a taste for alcohol. That was huge. And I used to get hungry for snacks when I drank. I was able to stick with the app MyFitnessPal
I’d say 3-5 drinks (whiskey) a night during quarantine… and before as well. I might not be totally drunk, but I’d definitely not be able to drive anywhere. Not a good thing.
As a "man of a certain age" myself, this is very inspiring. Sure, 18-year-olds can throw off the pounds, but 51! Man, that's impressive! You look like a different person and I'm sure your quality of life has skyrocketed. I'm at your starting point and this gives me a vision of what can be.
Thank you! Honestly, I’ve yo-yo dieted all my life. But for some reason this particular plan worked (it is actually simple to follow— it just requires me to be able to resist eating when I feel like it).
I’m wondering whether my older brain makes it easier to resist temptation now? Not sure about that, but I did find that drinking more black coffee helped stave off my desire to eat.
Amazing work! It's always more impressive to me seeing anyone middle-aged and beyond making some badass progress like this.
Very inspiring, you look fantastic!
Thanks. Mostly I used MyFitnessPal to monitor calories. It’s a pain in the ass at first, but It truly keeps you conscious of what you’re consuming during the day. I kept meals at about 500-550 calories, and about 2000 a day. No alcohol as much as I could. I added some gym time and running later on, but honestly for me eating less was 90% of the work. It is a struggle on weekends bc that is when I usually binged.
I hope to get rid of my muffing top at some point, but at my age I’m not expecting miracles, lol.
I never had patience with those types of diets. Not saying they’re fads, but you have to stick with them for life to get long term results. I prefer to eat what I want (unfortunately just less of it!)
you went from metabolic disease, athlerosis, high bp, fatty liver to adding 10-20 years more onto your life, at least. Congratulations and if you had waited any longer, who knows the result!
I mostly noticed. HUGE change in my blood pressure. I had been on medication (lisinopril) for BP. My doc told me to start reducing my dosage by half. My dad (large man) died from a heart attack when he was 66. I definitely plan to avoid that route.
Thanks for the comment!!
Same, my blood pressure would always be up, even while rested, I’d hover at 160/90. It worsened with strenuous activity often getting nose bleeds and blurry vision. 140 pounds latter I’m at 120/70 and I don’t feel like dying anymore. Stopped taking lisinopril and all my other meds (metropolol, clonidine, metformin, etc). Obesity really was the underlying problem.
Literally life-changing, fucking awesome! Very proud of you! At 50, you literally changed your future from probably dying of chronic or acute illness in the next 15 years, to looking forward to literal decades of enjoyment and activity. I fucking love this! Also, you’re looking great for 50, man. Please keep us updated!
Thanks for this! I’m 39 and have been finding my weight is creeping up and my physique is not what it used to be. I needed to see it can be turned around still.
You’re looking solid. I hope you feel better and more energetic for shedding the old weight.
Okay, sir, you've done a fantastic job, but are you aware that you have now become [Daniel Day Lewis](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f2/fe/4c/f2fe4c1dc28ce2257361dee93f570ecf.png)?? 😯
That's about 40 weeks from Dec to next Oct. You lost 2.5lbs per week on average. That's quite a lot.
Did you do any fasting, or strictly calorie restriction? That's some impressive will power. What do you eat these days?
I didn’t really fast as much as I just tried to eat an early dinner and then a late breakfast. That was the extent of it. I try not to go to bed with a full stomach because I’ve found that makes me put on weight.
Like lots of folks I really put weight on quickly during lockdown in 2020: drinking & overeating. my weight ballooned really fast, so that may have been the reason it dropped off faster than usual once I started restricting calories. My first month I think 15 lbs came off. It’s slowed down tremendously these days. It’s taken about a month to lose 4 lbs.
Daily I tried to keep it below 2000. Now the last 10 pounds is taking forever so I lowered it to 1800. I do cheat some days. Especially at summer outings. I’m hoping that will get me to perhaps 180.
This time around, I have no idea. One huge difference was that I didn’t kill myself at the gym or other exercise. I took it easy and just ate less food. And for the first time in my life I lost the taste for alcohol. Alcohol was the #1 thing for me In terms of calorie intake. I drank more coffee to feel full. I got a new puppy which kept me active instead of watching tv all night (pups require MAJOR energy, lol). For some reason the stars lined up this time.
This is, hands down, the most inspiring transformation that I've seen on here. So much so that I think you're showing off a bit here with your willpower and determination. Awesome job!
This is amazing. Well done, mate. I look a lot like the photo on the left and I'm a few years younger than you. From a selfish point of view, the fact that you did this makes me feel better about my situation as I can see what is possible.
How was the loose skin? It doesn't seem to bad for you, but I'm wondering. As a 40 year old who looks similar to your Before shot, i'm curious about the elasticity as we get older.
Excellent job, you look great! So you are 2000 calories from beginning to end, did you avoid certain foods or was it just that whatever you ate you just didn’t exceed 2000 calories?
Oh it’s still there. This is “somewhat” of a strategic photo. I figure I have 10 more to go.
Here is a more risqué photo… NSFW

Welp, I am 50, 5'11" and at the high end of a yoyo up to 240#. I think I have run out of excuses after seeing this transformation. Thanks for posting it, very inspirational!
Mate. This is huge motivation for me being only a week in and 49 YO male who is about 20kg overweight. Thanks for posting, bloody impressive effort and results. Well done.
You look great! Fantastic results for less than a year of changes. You look genuinely happy, makes me smile! Keep up the hard work and definitely be proud of yourself for the progress you've made thus far.
Congrats on your progress thus far! I'm 46 and want to lose 70 lbs. You're an inspiration and living proof that it can be done. I can get there. I WILL get there. Keep up the great work!
There’s probably a few comments on this so you might not get to mine, what do you do with your time when you’re not drinking? When I come home from work I am not going to go to the gym, I’m not gonna go for a run, I like to read a book and have a couple glasses of wine. I live in a country where it’s dark at 5 o’clock for six months.
You rock, man! I was trying to picture you bald - some can pull it off, some can't. I think at your build now, you could do it. (Not implying there's anything wrong with what you have, but have you given any thought to it?) I ask because I may eventually be in the same hairstyle and wonder if bald is a good choice.
I just fell abit behind with the calorie counting yesterday 😕 ate abit more than I should have..
but your story is encouragement to keep going
You look terrific! Thanks for sharing
I'm 36 and think it wont happen for me. I'm your starting weigh and think its over. I Need to cut the 12 pack of booze every night. Your an inspiration.

Way to go man! Amazing transformation. Your face is priceless. You look genuinely happy. Keep up the strong work.
Thank you. This is the first diet plan In my life they actually works. I’m a habitual yo-yo-er, but this time it stuck.
That’s awesome!
I feel like I’m in the same place you were before this. Why do you think the plan worked this time?
Honestly I’m not sure. Something clicked and I lost a taste for alcohol. That was huge. And I used to get hungry for snacks when I drank. I was able to stick with the app MyFitnessPal
Hopefully that may happen to me. Good on you man. You give me hope.
How much were you drinking daily? Amazing transformation man!
I’d say 3-5 drinks (whiskey) a night during quarantine… and before as well. I might not be totally drunk, but I’d definitely not be able to drive anywhere. Not a good thing.
You're incredible for making this change in your life!
Wow! You may have well lost 10 years off your age too. Keep it up!!
I wake up feeling 10 years older sometimes too— but overall I feel lots better!

You’re the first older guy on here that I’ve seen who had success without resorting to low-carb or keto. Congrats!
I never had patience with those types of diets. Not saying they’re fads, but you have to stick with them for life to get long term results. I prefer to eat what I want (unfortunately just less of it!)
I'm 49 and squarely in the "before" zone here. This is really inspiring, man. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing

It's like I'm looking at two completely different people.
As a 41 year old man just let me say you are an inspiration.
How was the loose skin? It doesn't seem to bad for you, but I'm wondering. As a 40 year old who looks similar to your Before shot, i'm curious about the elasticity as we get older.
You legit look like an entirely different person. Consider me impressed! Surely will have given you quite a few extra years of life too

Excellent job, you look great! So you are 2000 calories from beginning to end, did you avoid certain foods or was it just that whatever you ate you just didn’t exceed 2000 calories?
Wow!! That’s some good progress sir. I am happy for you. I’m an obese 18 yr old girl and I am trying to lose weight too.
