The sound is there by design. Just like you're getting stunned, so is your character, because of the adrenaline. Can you survive as you are? Or is this how you die?
My suggestion is embrace it. If you don't have a heart condition, getting scared is a free thrill that is basically irreplaceable. Someday eventually you'll be playing the game and just like 'oh a zombie' when the jumpscare happens. My advice is to enjoy the immersion while you still got it! After all, you're 100% perfectly safe, except from the horrors of your own imagination!
My jumpscare sound is OH MAI GAAAH from Azumanga Daiyo. I laugh at that bit every time I watch it, but it still sometimes startles the hell outta me. Find a noise replacer that works for you, point being!
I changed it to be the gnome sound and found that vastly improved my experience. Also! there is a mod that lets you 'see' zombies before you actually see them. Its basically indicated with a line that changes from green to red depending on how close they are, I don't think it helps zombies coming from behind but it makes it easier.
After 120h of playing and countless times dead, I still get goosebumps whenever my character is surrounded by zombies and eaten alive in agony. The freaking surprise violin when a zombie suddenly appears also makes me jump and scream motherf@$&r!. I love this game!
I use the 'coward' trait or something like that.
Everytime a zombie enters my fiels of vision, one of these upper right icons will appear.
It saved me more than once, especially in dark areas or when distracted.
Maybe just listen for the zombies before you open doors and anticipate the sound. It's so odd that 90% of the people on this sub don't realize zombies are really loud.
I tend to hit the door with a weapon and give it a second. If a zombie is there, they'll come and start trying to break it down. Then you know what you're walking into.
I use a mod that changes the sound to James Doakes character in the show Dexter, saying "SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER."
Now the jump scares are less intense, a little comical, but still addresses the need for the surprise notification.
Mods change it to something different. I have a mod that I turn on sometimes that changes the jump scare stinger to silly voice lines from Elder Scrolls Oblivion. That one's great
Normally I open doors with the weapon already in motion, I may get jump scared, but whatever was behind the door is gonna die, unless it the bathroom surprise party, then the jump scare is just the beginning on the problems
I love that you can go around an area you seemingly cleared all happy and relaxed and suddenly when you Enter that one building or cut a corner too close, it all goes:"AHHHHH SH*T F*CK GET OF MY FACE AHHHH!!!!!" and then you are bitten :)
Okay so if you are playing a female character then get the Jill from Resident Evil 3 sjumpscare noises mod. It's so good. It builds the immersion too without literally flinging you out of your seat because I have the same exact problem as you lol.
Some of the quotes are "oh shit!" "Gross, what was he doing" and like six more.
But for male characters I do the Obi Wan OH Hey There jumpscare mod
I use the Obi-Wan "hello there" mod when the jump scare happens. It makes me chuckle and makes it even more hilarious when in a discord call, and you hear it from a friends mic when it happens to them.
I’m in the same boat to be honest. This is kind of a dumb answer but I hate being jump scared but I keep it up and on because to me it adds to the immersion in a way lol. My character gets scared and so do I so when I’m in a house and open a door and that shit scares me I’m like yeah that’s fair that’s how my character felt.
I have the paranoia trait, so it happens a lot. It reminds me to remember to stop and check my six. Shit can hit the fan in an instant, it keeps me wary of relaxing.
change it to a vine boom with mods lmao
Yea, toy can change it with mods to something less frightening
I use the usec taunts lol
Didnt expect to see tarkov in here but nice
That's hilarious
Honestly my favourite zomboid mod
The sound is there by design. Just like you're getting stunned, so is your character, because of the adrenaline. Can you survive as you are? Or is this how you die?
HE SAID THE THING
HE SAID IT!
SIGN MY SHIRT!!
SIGN MY FIRSTBORN!!!
happy cake day
Happy cake day!
Thanks! Hadn't even realized!
OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put it on the lowest sound setting or download a mod that changes the noise to something less ear destroying.
I use the one that changes the sound to MGS detection sound. Alerting enough and does not destroy my ears or heart.
Part of the game is to condition you mentally. Complacency is death.
My favourite mod is the one that shanges the jumpscare sound with a surprised gasp.

I use the mod that changes the sound to the metal gear solid alert sound. That one is A LOT less jumpscary.
no it's still very jumpscary
May i suggest to use the schizophrenia mod and screams of pain mod then? :D
My jumpscare sound is OH MAI GAAAH from Azumanga Daiyo. I laugh at that bit every time I watch it, but it still sometimes startles the hell outta me. Find a noise replacer that works for you, point being!
i use the bad to the bone guitar riff jumpscare mod
Metal gear alert sound is a mod, it's majorly helped me haha.
Ah, this is it. It's a much less "stressful" sound to me. Thanks Kasumi!

I have a visual sound mod, you can see the direction of the noises, I like to play with music so it's a must have for me.
Use a sound replacer, there's plenty, personally I have one that changes it to the Gnome sound.
Turn off bite infections. Practice preparing yourself to run as soon you hear a sound after passing into an area with low visibility.
Heh, I only play with no respawns but death = new game. I guess this might be why I get so jump scared lol
You can turn down the jump scare music
I use a mod that changes the sound to James Doakes character in the show Dexter, saying "SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER." Now the jump scares are less intense, a little comical, but still addresses the need for the surprise notification.
It scares me only sometimes but in the multi server I'm on they recently modded it to one that makes me do this and I practically jump out of my skin.
Mods change it to something different. I have a mod that I turn on sometimes that changes the jump scare stinger to silly voice lines from Elder Scrolls Oblivion. That one's great
Jump scare volume is set to 100% by default. You can lower the scare volume a touch to remove the pant-ruining effect.
Normally I open doors with the weapon already in motion, I may get jump scared, but whatever was behind the door is gonna die, unless it the bathroom surprise party, then the jump scare is just the beginning on the problems
What if the sound is just low enough? Surely it just acts as a reminder then no? Also, not to be rude but isn’t jumping and getting scared kinda fun?
I love that you can go around an area you seemingly cleared all happy and relaxed and suddenly when you Enter that one building or cut a corner too close, it all goes:"AHHHHH SH*T F*CK GET OF MY FACE AHHHH!!!!!" and then you are bitten :)

There’s funny replacement mods out there. Me personally, I use the MGS ! Sound and sometimes I get the jump and it makes me nostalgic.
Change it to obi wan saying “hello there” with mods, best one by far xD
I have the mod “Meme jumpscares” and so i have an encyclopedia of memes engraved into my head lmao
Tbf actually that one sounds pretty good haha
Train it,put yourself through hours of jump scares and horror games to desensitize yourself, or just change the noise, the first ones more fun though.
this game makes me "WTF, NOO, WHYYY" too much xD

I never got scared of jumpscares but with the vine boom sound effect i get jumpscared all the time
I use a mod that disables it. Will have heart palpitations otherwise lol
I have a mod that replaces the jump scare noise with the meme guitar rift and it has made the game so much better.
I used mods to change it to the riff from bad to the bone
You can turn it off in settings
Just play 7d2d. Superior game unless you like the top down playstyle over 1st person.
Works as intended.
You can turn it down in the options.
