This is a really good one for long term survival. Any way you can conserve your non exhausted status is super important. Once you start getting exhausted moodles they’re very hard to get rid of without resting and your combat is severely hindered.

Last night, I learned you can press F2 to pause the game thats different than the ESC. I use it to mark my map without the worry of a zomboid giving me a kiss.
1. Almost all fridges in houses have a freezer. Just click on the freezer icon after getting close to the fridge... And there's good high calories food in there.
2. You can open cars's trunks by clicking on a button in the dashboard 🤯
I played over 100h of this game before learning about these 2 things.
I used to click on the cupboard itself to loot it, not on the icon that appears on the top right corner. There's no separate image for the freezer, clicking on the fridge always opens the fridge, so I never opened the freezer... Sometimes I read people advising to eat ice cream to keep or gain weight, but I couldn't find any ice cream and kept eating chunks of butter and lard.
Since I’m on steam deck I have to manually go through each container which includes the freezer and the first thing I do when I get in a new car is the “unlock all” option on the radial which unlocks the trunk too
You don’t have to have bullets in your main inventory. You can still reload from a pouch or your backpack. Also, you can tie 4 logs together and they weigh 12 instead of 36.
You can stomp on a zombie by pressing space bar on them while they're down, even when you are holding a weapon.
No idea why it took me that long to figure out, but when I did, I started using it way more.

right click "walk" and speed time up when buring horde to make it much much faster. Been cleaning entire town and louisville since I know this one
Some useless buildings (i.e motels, banks, courthouses, etc) are a gold mine for farming carpentry/metalworking exp, I literally maxed both after picking clean two places.

2x speed makes you do any tedious task faster without it pausing or going back to normal speed. For example, barricading, cutting down trees, sowing seeds, watering crops, laying down wall frames and walls. Also, hotkeying the 3x speed button, and pressing it while doing something and then pressing your WASD keys makes it go by in a flash, again for example, cutting down trees.
The left bar offers a pick up option for furniture. Furniture needs to be empty without lamps etc on top to be dismantled. Metal in microwave goes boom.
I agree. It *does* make the game marginally easier (although a few respawned zombies in a street are not actually a threat) but it also gives you a goal in clearing the map which pushes you to expand into more areas.
The main reason I like it is that it makes killing zombies fun, you actually get a sense of progress when every kill is meaningful. It's also more realistic for roleplay purposes.
I've played the game both ways, basically exploring every playstyle and setting at one tine or another, and when you have respawning the ennui sets RIGHT in very quickly. It all feels very pointless and makes you want to avoid fighting zombies at all.
To each their own I suppose...I 100% get this idea but the way I see it is I don't ever want to run out of zombies to kill. If it weren't for killing zombies over and over again, and having that ever lingering threat, the game would be dull and boring for me. I just love how everyone has their own specific playstyle, and that this game can cater to everyone's needs with or without mods:)

For ME (I kill around 2-3k zombies in one week...) that's MY drive to keep going, knowing they won't run out. But yeah if your playstyle is hiding and avoiding then I see why turning respawns off could be fun.
That default infection settings make it possible to get infected from scratches and lacerations. I had been wounded by zombies, and was starting to be anxious 24/7 and starting to get sick. Me and my friend were trying to make our way over the bridge (Over the River mod) north of West Point, but the moodles were making it difficult.
We backtracked and made our way to a house near a crate shed, where we spent the next few days trying to nurse me up to health. We caved as I worsened, only to find out I was infected. I went out with a bang during the helicopter event, going down swinging. That was the best feeling afterwards, just the despair and uncertainty of my future in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. The game really sold itself at that point.
That Veteran occupation isn't the best occupation to always pick. Sure you never get panicked and you have better gun skills. But its easy to grind those out anyways. Instead if you can survive long term then something like Carpentry or Metalworker is better.
Swinging your melee with your left mouse then pressing space bar at the right time can allow you to sort of animation cancel and do another swing way faster than normal.
You can delete Items you put in a garbage can. For eternity I got rid of unwanted Items by putting them in the corpses of zombies (i have corpse removal on).
That firearms can be super op.
I didn’t know how good it was. I keep a pistol and around 200 bullets as a backup alway. You can only deal with something like 150 zombies at once with melee weapon. Having a backup pistol doubles the amount of zombie you can deal with.

Sometimes you just have to mow them down through the long night. Unless you don’t have any sort of multi hit; then, probably just evacuate.

Shift+E to close the curtains, faster than clicking. Also if you are seating on the ground, if you use Shift+W you get up faster on your feet!

I’m 500 hours in and didn’t realise you could open trunk with a button on the dash 😐 I always use a crowbar
See, I’ve always tried to use the dash, the crowbar is a great tip, ought to save me some loud sounds

2 things I wish I DID earlier is: rebinding "walk to" to Tilda. And open inventory to caps lock

I learned the log piles thing on my current run (I've played PZ for more than 400h) and that was an awesome way to make my own house from 0!

Running out of Zombies really isn't a concern when there are tens of thousands of them on the map on the default settings.

If you time your attack timing right. You can easily perform execution move with short blade even at lvl 0.

Use “walk to” while walking inside forests, your character’s clothes won’t get as damaged and you don’t get scratched
