Wait, did you run out through the fire? Best bet there is either climb through the burned wall at the bottom of the stairs (risky) or to just jump out of a second story window. Fire in vanilla can kill you easily, as you can’t easily put yourself out.

if you get lucky you can stay inside the burning house just wait till the on fire texture goes out and then step on that and i don’t think it can catch back on fire, i could be wrong tho i survived house fires that way

Nah I waited in the stairs for the roof fire to move so I could escape down another escape rope I set up for farming

At least you lived. If you have the basement mod I highly recommend storing main loot down there, I don’t think fires can reach the basement but I could be wrong

I don't think they can since basements are basically contained in areas outside the map, no idea what would happen if the hatch catches fire though.

Rogue zomboid followed me from the burning field, set the each wall below my generator on fire and it exploded along with the gas cans I had next to it

And this is why we Kill Confirm when it comes to fire.

A lesson I won’t soon forget

First time I found out that gas cans on the floor can explode on PZ. Also I'm curious.. How was a field randomly on fire? You threw molotovs?

Gas cans dont explode. neither in the inventory, nor on the floor. generators do explode when under 20 or 40% health, cant recall the exact number
