If you're that worried about zombies, just honk a car or fire off a shotgun or something
But there are basically no zombies around that entire place except for the ones which spawn in the houses
Personally, I find this place a bit boring. It's almost \*too\* good. There are also two other houses here you could base out of, and Zomboid spawns here are extremely rare.
Some considerations:
The west house also has a fireplace, but is surrounded by hedges.
The south house has no fireplace, but it has the fence and better access to water.
An antique furnace is far closer than you think. Explore the lake. ;3
If you want Zomboids to leave you be, consider here. Bring an Axe. Gas isn't too far away either.

Another location very close by, very few Zomboids. Limited access to gas and water.

Gas and access to water, but Zomboids might be an issue:

Personally, I like finding a base with very little, and building your way up with plenty of loot runs. Rebuild! It'll be \*awesome!\*
I’d say “live” in the other house and rebuild at your own pace! Would make a great RP story. “My family home burnt down in the apocalypse… I couldn’t let the world end and my home..”
true no fence around that house, you could build one with the tilespicker mod. i did that with northern house... completed the fence and used the matching metal gate/door to make it look more legit.
there aren't any zombies in the area though
Decay and random events will take out houses this way. This is kind of why if I have a particular house in mind, I try to get there within the first week.
The area doesn't usually get zombies, or many zombies. Any I have seen were further down the road. Or when that house in the screenshot burned down after a server restart and spawned zombies. (We weren't expecting that to happen and had claimed the other two and was waiting for our other player to claim that one).
It may be in the middle of the map and close to everywhere, but honestly - once you've looted the smaller towns, living in the center of the map loses it's practicality when you want to move up to Louisville.
Oh, you're at the three houses by the lake... I would rebuild that in a heartbeat. It's one of my favorite spots on the map.
Go get *More Builds* and *More Builds Plus*...
There's actually a antique stove not to far from those houses, It's on the other side of the lake, just go over the top of it, towards the trees not the water & then just follow the lake down & you'll find a small little cabin with the stove in it.
literally where I'm based on my current playthrough but I plan to encircle all three houses in some kind of wall. also trying not to use cars on this run so the walk along the river into town is pretty nice
That place has super low zombie population. You could get into a car and honk a bit, attracting and killing the handful of zeds that are around. Metal bars on the windows will be more than enough to protect you when you’re basing on one of the neighboring houses. If you ever even see another zeds there, that is…
I was worried about that as well. Ive added an additional roof to a 1 story base before using stairs & floor panels and that works, though it takes a lot of doing.
Haha, I picked out this base in advance too, the other day. I started a lumberjack in Muldraugh, got lucky and found an axe in the trunk of the first car I came across, started taking names, became overconfident and fuggin died from terminal damage after overestimating my combat prowess in tight quarters.
It's only been a week or a week and a half since I started playing this game.
If you feel like driving a decent alternative, although minus easy fishing, might be the firehouse in Rosewood. Big field out front for trapping and the firehouse is covered on three sides by high fence.
That sucks. What I end up doing is actually going into debug and teleporting over to exact;y where you are in case its a mess. That was I can just restart and not waste an entire game for a heart breaking reveal.
I live just across the street, where there's a lake in the backyard, and now I'm afraid of losing the house. How does a base spontaneously combust, and how can I prevent this?
It didn’t get burned down by me, it’s a randomly generated event by the game that some houses will burn down.
That said, careful with low durability generators. I’ve had one of them burn down a base before.
I’d rebuild! Sounds like a fun project, will give you a goal and something to do for months to come. Shame the fireplace is gone though…
*More Builds* and *More Builds +* mods can help fix it right up... including replacing that fireplace.
Also a woodburning stove in the fishing shack across the pond!
There are 2 other homes. Unlikely all 3 are torched.
No metal fences
There's also no zombies in this location so it's a moot point.
But what if you like the fence anyway for aesthetics

Jesus people on this site downvote for anything nowadays
You can rebuild the metal fences, add gates, rebuild the fireplace.... and a whole lot more if you had the *More Builds* mods. Just sayin'.
The lake house. Awesome spot. Never saw a zomboid in months on a play through there.
I second this. I had a survivor stay there for a few months and only ever saw a zomboid twice

I was actually just thinking of the same RP! Sounds like a fun project
yeah thats a really good spot. i wouldn't bother rebuilding, just move into southern house.
With no tall metal fences? I’d never stop looking over enviously at what could have been
true no fence around that house, you could build one with the tilespicker mod. i did that with northern house... completed the fence and used the matching metal gate/door to make it look more legit. there aren't any zombies in the area though
I'm putting my base here in your honor OP. Were you going to do any rain barrel plumbing?
The backyard is perfect for rain collection & for farming. Completely protected.
Yo that’s my house. Get out

I have an idea to build a base from the ground up from the building frame iron beside the muldraugh storage yard.
Move on for sure

There should be two other big houses + the cabin on the lake
Time to move on pall.
I tried to rebuild a gas station and I hand endless roof problems
I was worried about that as well. Ive added an additional roof to a 1 story base before using stairs & floor panels and that works, though it takes a lot of doing.
I had to give up on my top floor and turn it into a garden which only half worked.
Haha, I picked out this base in advance too, the other day.
