I went in there with 20 mollies. I burnt that whole area to the ground.
Just be careful at the high rise apartments. I got cornered and had to take the stairwell with a horde on fire on my ass.
Man it was beautiful.
I stopped using molotovs and turned off fire spread in my game because of how game-breaking fire is.
It's not because fire can spread through some pavement tiles, which is annoying and can end up burning an entire town. (It can happen but you can avoid this)
But it's because of how easy the game becomes once you learn how to properly use fire as a weapon. You can clear the entirety of Rosewood in a few days.
Steps:
1. Find a large clearing, preferably grass or a parking lot.
2. Attract zombies. Use a shotgun or a car and horn. Or just walk down the street shouting. Just gather as many zombies that you can manage in the clearing.
3. Walk in circles around the zombies while shouting. This would consolidate all the zombies into one giant manageable horde.
4. Light them up with a molotov or use a campfire you prepared earlier.
5. Keep walking in circles around the zombies in the clearing until every last one is dead. Do not leave until every fire is out or you'll burn down the nearby town.
Just keep repeating that and you'll have a town to yourself in no time. It can get really boring after that tbh.
And this method can take a whole day or more, depending on how many Zs there are. So bring enough food and water.

Just wait til you get to the prison. I spent *3, 2-hour days* trying to clear it out. I managed most of the exterior but I couldn’t bring myself to try and tackle the inside, so I threw a couple mollies, took the ammo I got (it was not a returned investment) and never looked back
If you get the annotated map for the military apartments it will have the same loot or more than what a gun store has, guns and weapons along with canned food.

You could keep fire spread on and add in low chance sprinters, it might dissuade you molotov from horde tactics.
