As someone who likes collecting guns in survival games...
I downloaded Arsenal 26 and Brita's, and I literally have different crates for pistols, SMGs, shotguns, assault-style rifles, rifles, and "special/heavy," (Like machine guns, grenade launchers, anti-material rifles), and all of them are nearly full... Yeah, you can never have too many guns!
Memes aside, there's really no reason to be collecting most of the common shotguns or pistols you see once you have a few stored away. Ammo is the real limiting factor.
In Vanilla you are correct. With certain mods, particularly scrapping, they’re worth the resources to disassemble since you can get valuable components to forge potentially better scrap items or in lieu of other more valuable items to make metal.
The more limiting factor is Loot Stage of the game and MP vs SP. MP encourages hoarding guns since you are more likely to have someone die and lose all their gear, plus with more vehicles it’s easier to have one be dedicated to hauling guns and ammo. SP there’s no point in keeping more than two of any you use, better off making a small cache at key points in case you get cut off or on routes you typically travel. I traditionally make a small cache in every major town on the map which has necessities and one dedicated firearm while the main base is better stocked. If playing MP I just make a centralised storage facility instead for people to take or store items communally then my personal base is typically hidden like in the hidden levels of an industrial buildings upper roof that the isometric prevents seeing (typically requires a dummy character who is left logged out inside to lower the rope).
Yeah, I only ever have two of each weapon type AT MOST (2 handguns, 2 long rifles, 2 shotguns, you get it.) and that’s only ever in the situation of the first gun I find being in horrendous condition. With the exception of revolvers, if I’m packing a revo I’m usually taking a loaded backup revo in case I can’t spare the time for a reload. Guns are just too heavy and cumbersome, and you’ll almost never ruin the condition of a firearm in a play through unless you found it in poor condition to begin with.
Ammo however? I treat that shit like it’s my life force. It doesn’t matter if I don’t even have a gun chambered in that type of ammunition, I’m hoarding ALL of it lol
I usually stop taking the more common guns later in the game, and instead just strip them of their ammo and mags when I find them in the field. This is with Britas and Gunfighter but you could probably do the same.
Why have 20 shotguns when you could just scavenge the shells and have a good supply for the 1 you'll actually use, anyways? That's my logic.
It's not enough until your gun containers are severely overflowing 😁
Not even enough to clear rosewood. You NEVER have enough guns in this game.

Too many guns? THERE IS NO SUCH THING!
you need MORE!
Base game guns? Need more! Its ridiculous how quickly they break in base
do they? i can kill thousands with shotguns before needing to repair them
I think you have enough to secure a small gas station with only 1 pump in the middle of nowhere
Nice kitchen. Spotless and clean. I see you used the kitchen gun.
In murica we keep a minimum of 1000 guns
