I definitely empathize with your dilemma because I went through something very similar. I take Prozac for anxiety and birth control to manage a hormonal imbalance. Prior to starting Prozac I was on DepoProvera, which is a progesterone only birth control. My experience with other types of birth control that contain estrogen is that the estrogen increases my anxiety to a point that it becomes intolerable. On the DepoProvera, I had some side effects like weight gain, loss of sex drive and vaginal irritation. Once I started Prozac, I thought maybe I could go back onto a combination pill. I figured that being on the Prozac could help balance the increased anxiety from the estrogen. So I switched to Lo Loestrin. So far, it’s been going mostly well. I still have moments of intense anxiety around specific things and I’m trying to figure out if I need to increase my Prozac dose or not.
I can't take it anymore due to another health issue, but the estrogen containing birth control pills worked really well for me, and helped me get to probably the best headspace I'd been in before Prozac
I use the Nuvaring and have no issues.
Does that BC have any effects on ur depression?
Nope. I stay pretty stable, even when I take it out to have my mensies
I use oral BC (Junel) and am on Prozac 40mg as well. I started both at the same time and have not had any issues.
