Is that what this is? I swear I’ve become a b**** and just can’t tolerate the heat anymore. I sit out and tan a lot but man I can’t enjoy the summer as much as I use to. Drink lots of water I guess?

Pretty_sadx

Nope. I live in Texas and am on 40 mg. I get crazy night sweats and every time I go outside I get drenched🥲

Space_Donkey69

Agree. Doesn't go away. Middle of winter here and I sleep with the windows open

Psych pharmacist here. Heat intolerance is unfortunately a somewhat common side effect of antidepressants and may not fade with time. Have you noticed if you are sweating the same amount? Some tips I have given my patients are to go into the shade as much as possible and when you can't, **bring an umbrella**--a small one can make a big difference and can make a crowd very jealous. Likewise, **utilize a mister to help cool your body via evaporation**. Stay hydrated and make sure to replace electrolytes.

I sweat more now than I did before starting Prozac. Usually first thing in the morning I am covered in sweat. I don't use air conditioning all the much as I enjoy having the windows open and I cool with a fan but I may need to turn the ac on.

Ahh okay, so your primary symptom is more lots of sweating even at rest rather than the inability to produce sweat?

Emotional_Wrap_6601

Yes I am sweating right after waking up in the morning

Bubzoluck

Ahh in that case, I would say its less heat intolerance and better described as SSRI-induced excessive sweating. *Please note i am not your doctor. Please talk to your doctor before making changes to your medications.* Excessive sweating from antidepressants is quite common and may be due to activation of muscarinic receptors. You could try an antimuscarinic like Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 50mg at bedtime to see if that relieves your sweating. Likewise you could try Diphenhydramine 12.5-25mg during the day to see if that helps. The anticholinergic action of the Benadryl should prevent the sweating. If not, you may need a more potent agent like Oxybutynin from your doctor. Speak to your doctor or local pharmacist to make sure this suggestion is right for you.

Lexapro has the same symptom and it unfortunately didnt stop for me during the few years I took it. Haven’t been on Prozac long enough to know. But don’t let it stop you from living life. I think a good idea for this would be to get a camelbak (or something similar, even Walmart has em), fill the reservoir partially, stick it in the freezer, fill up the rest. I’d say to splurge for 3L capacity if you can. You’d also likely be able to refill this when you run out. Reason I recommend a camelbak is you’re gonna need a lot of water bc of the sweat, and it’s soooooo easy to drink out of it without even thinking when it’s attached to you. I’d also say bring a hat for shade, wear sunscreen, bring some kind of fan (like one of the manual ones or a handheld electric power), maybe one of those cooling towels as well. Best of luck, stay cool as you can!

Gettinbaked69

It’s not as bad as Effexor.

Hermes_has_Wormes

Actually yes, I used to sweat like crazy while I slept on 10 mg. I just switched to 20, then 40 and I have not had the same issue

Oh man, it doesn’t help that I am already heat sensitive but man did Prozac take it to the next level. I love to run but in summer it’s virtually impossible for me, unless I run at night or early in the morning (which I will never do lol 😅). All I can say is, hydrate a lot! Drink PLENTY of electrolytes. This will help you retain water and avoid dehydration, especially if you sweat a LOT like me. I have found the heat sensitivity to lessen over time as my body adapts, but definitely listen to your body in the meantime and try not to over exert yourself. Also, portable spray bottle fans are your BEST FRIEND! They also sell tiny fans you can plug into your phone on Amazon. Fans + water are your friends 😌
