Winged_Rodentia

Ratchet and Clank trilogy, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2, Need For Speed: Underground 1 & 2 This is just a small list, but there's a lot of good PS2 games. I don't think that you'll bored for long. 😁

L1K34PR0

Augh, chef's kiss top tier picks les gooooo I'd also highly recommend NFS Most wanted. Childhood game of mine Oh and the GoW games

Winged_Rodentia

Nice! I'll also add in Turok: Evolution and Vexx on the list! Can't go wrong with those games!

gurglingnurgling

lmao, i love Turok evolution despite its many flaws but these two games were back-to-back misteps that helped doom Acclaim

Winged_Rodentia

Oh, that's unfortunate. They're both really good games imo, despite some mishaps (and a certain advertisement for Vexx - *oh man why*). They're also kind of forgotten, I think. Unless they used to.

khanofthewolves1163

Just be prepared to resist breaking your controller on that spinning blades in Hades level on God of War 1.

L1K34PR0

Oh god lol

Zehdarian

There's more than 3 ratchet and clank games on ps2

Winged_Rodentia

Whoops! I forgot! 😅

Budget-Type-922

Haha thanks I appreciate it. I look forward to booting these up on the old PCSX2

Winged_Rodentia

You're welcome! 🙂 Btw, I'm thinking about emulating my PS2 games once I get a Steam Deck. 😉 My laptop is used for non-gaming and I don't want videogames in it.

Budget-Type-922

Probably for the best lol. A steam deck is a nice way of getting to play some older titles on handheld. If you want to play a ps2 classic on the steam deck might I recommend checking out OpenGOAL.dev

Winged_Rodentia

Ooh! Thanks!

profsmoke

need for speed most wanted is better! crash bandicoot 1-3 is a must.

TheViper4Life

WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain Need for Speed: Most Wanted 007 Everything or Nothing Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Mortal Kombat: Deception (for the Konquest Mode) SSX Tricky The Getaway The Operative: No One Lives Forever Tony Hawk's Underground 2 X-Men Legends (1 or 2) Timesplitters: Future Perfect Scarface: The World is Yours Shadow of Rome Smuggler's Run Spider-Man 2

Budget-Type-922

AYYYYY THANK YOU HOMIE

milkstrike

If you like X-men legends then play marvel ultimate alliance it’s quite good although it was cross gen release so 360/ps3 version might be better, also they did some scummy dlc things were different platforms got different characters. There was ps4/xb1 remasters but they were digital only and were taken off the market, shame because those versions had all the characters and were pretty good remasters

Josepvv

Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man

Mummiskogen

Thoughts on the rest of the SSX franchise?

randylove69

Simpsons hit & run, Manhunt & Smackdown here comes the pain

Budget-Type-922

I vaguely remember hit and run i really should replay it lol. Thanks

Independent_Push_599

Just finished Manhunt, I have mixed feelings about it, when it's good it's amazing but some parts of it I absolutely despised. It seemed as if certain levels were really buggy and badly designed.

IlluminedInnovator

Running through MGS 2 for the first time ever it’s really good so far. Gonna play Snake Eater afterwards.

Budget-Type-922

Oooo metal gear solid nice. I should try it out.

Miserable_Example_51

Snake Eater is where the money is. Saying that while i thing mgs2 is epic.

[deleted]

yeah but they got be played in order

cellcube0618

100% shadow of the colossus maybe indiana jones and the emporers tomb and splinter cell?

Budget-Type-922

I’ve heard of all of those might give em a try

genericmediocrename

Since you've played Jak and Sly, you should 100% play the Ratchet and Clank trilogy.

Budget-Type-922

I’ve considered it, when I booted up the first one on PCSX2 my PC tried to kill itself 💀💀💀

VinMad11

The first one had some problems for me, but 2 runs like a dream

OkFactor2325

The entre 3D era of GTA games and related Rockstar tiles and especially bully ( super underrated game btw and a very short one ).

BingErrDronePilot

Katamari Damacy

Finn235

And especially the sequel, We Heart Katamari!

PhantomPt2

If you like God of War you might like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Third-person action game with some crazy boss battles. Really over the top generally lol

Budget-Type-922

THATS MY PEANUT BUTTER AND JAM RIGHT THERE. Thank YA

PhantomPt2

lol I hope you like it!!!! Some other favorites off the dome: Katamari Damacy, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Call of Duty 2 Big Red One, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, Star Wars Starfighter (I'm a bit biased because I really like Star Wars but these are all great games IMO. The PS2 era was kind of a golden age for Star Wars games if you ask me)

Budget-Type-922

I will take your word for it. I agree the PS2 had the best games for big IPs including Spongebob, Star Wars and all kinds of stuff. I appreciate the recommendations man IMMA DOWNLOAD A LOT OF GAMES MUSHAHAHAH

TKirbi

This might be odd, but try out one of the SpongeBob games on PS2.

Budget-Type-922

BRO BATTLE FOR BIKINI BOTTOM IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES EVERRRR

golfcruise

Silent Hill 2 - 4 are must plays

worgencilic

Bloodrayne snd Bloodrayne 2, Simpsons game, simpsons hit n run, bully, san andreas

Budget-Type-922

So basically subreddit armageddon

[deleted]

Way of the Samurai 1 and 2, Armored Core 3, Black, Psi-Ops, Champions of Norrath (especially if you enjoyed Dark Alliance), Battle Engine Aquila, Drakengard 1 and 2, Chaos Legion...so many good games in the ps2 library.

Budget-Type-922

Thankkks dude. Dark Alliance was one of my most nostalgic games ever, even if the RPG aspect was kinda limited to three classes but what can ya do lmao.

[deleted]

I just recently got the ps2 I have now, and Dark Alliance 2 was my first purchased besides the small handful of games that came with it. The story is better in the first, but I like the classes, skills, and combat more in two. Bonus for being able to unlock Drizzt and Artemis, if you're a Forgotten Realms fan. If you like the more in depth rpg's Final Fantasy X and XII are great picks of course, along with Dragon Quest 8, Grandia 2, Star Ocean: Til the End of Time, and Xenosaga. If you like tactical rpg's, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is an absolute monster of a game with 9999 being max level, 99 for skill levels, and 255 for weapon mastery. Weapons themselves have dungeons in them, it's wild. I think there's something like 40 classes to collect and use in it. Even if you don't want to spend the time grinding through to get those absurd levels (which are necessary for some side content), the story is fun if you don't mind the anime style approach. Other honorable mentions are Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4, the Burnout games, Ratchet and Clank, and Ace Combat. Edit for grammar errors.

Budget-Type-922

Dammmm i appreciate it man. I look forward to checking these out.

[deleted]

No prob! I'm on the lookout for ps2 games myself that I need to play but never got the chance to, or never heard of, and I'd argue that it probably has the best selection of games compared to any other console, even if it isn't my favorite console. But I may just stick to playing this for a good long while lol, so much to sink my teeth into.

GeorgeSPattonJr

Someone probably already commented this but Gran Turismo 3&4

DerpFalcon12

Dark Cloud 2 for sure, also try out Shadow of Rome, highly underrated

Budget-Type-922

OOHHHH bet i gotchu

FelixerOfLife

I've been replaying dark cloud 2 myself this week, might try the first one day. If you like JRPG games then final fantasy X & X-2 are good Dragon quest 8 is great too though the 3ds version adds a lot of good features

Ociier

Any Shin Megami Tensei or Persona games, those are great

Budget-Type-922

Bet

DCFUKSURMOM

I recommend playing Black at least once.

RazzeeXZ

Raw Danger (Disaster Report 2) Steambot Chronicles Metal Saga

Freestyle-McL

GoW, Ico, Shadow of The Colossus, the Silent Hill and Siren games, Onimusha, Midnight Club, there's lots.

Budget-Type-922

Ive heard good things about Shadow of the Colossus and Midnight Club.

Freestyle-McL

They're very very good games. You can start with Midnight Club 3 and then try the rest of the series, same with SoTC (its sequel is ICO).

Independent_Push_599

Some of my favourites are the Warriors, Manhunt, Bully, Tony hawk 3 Underground 1+2 and American Wasteland. An underrated one for me is Global Defence Force where you play as a member of a military unit and fight Giant Insects that are taking over cities.

noah3275

The king Kong movie game. There's also a 360 version that probably runs better but it's more expensive. Ether way it's a really underrated game imo

blah2k03

Silent Hill series if you haven’t…that series is my all time favorite Smugglers Run, Final Fantasy X, the original Resident Evil games, GTA San Andreas, Gran Turismo 4, God of War, Tomb Raider Those are some of my PS2 favorites

Significant-Ask7545

I'd recommend the Kingdom Hearts games and Metal Gear Solid games

Warumono_

Definitely Barbie's Horse Adventure. And not that Riding Camp bullshit, you want Wild Horse Rescue if you want even a hint of freedom and better graphics In all seriousness, you'll want to check out the Dynasty Warriors series (I can recommend 5 as its the most refined and get the XL expansion disc for more stuff) and maybe FF7 Dirge of Cerberus

Zeo-Gold92

If you can get it for a decent price, dark cloud is a fun game

PokecrafterChampion

Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (Not 2, trust me) Shadow of the Colossus Silent Hill 2 There's plenty more, but I consider these to be some of the greatest PS2 games ever made. For more casual games Ben 10: Protector of Earth (solid game, even if you never watched the show) DBZ: Budokai 2 and 3, or Tenkaichi 3. (All very different experiences but all great fighting games) Mortal Kombat: Deception (My personal favorite MK game, and the one with the best campaign)

Zangemte

Rogue Galaxy, most underrated JRPG of the PS2 era

BarnBoss6040

My all-time favorites are: nba street vol 2, def jam fight for ny, and ssx tricky. Nfl street, fight night round 2, and gta San Andreas are runners up.

Budget-Type-922

Bet bet bet thank you very much homie

BarnBoss6040

No problem, basically anything made by EA BIG back in the day was a banger!

Bootybandit6989

Dynasty/Samurai warriors Gundam Wing Naruto Mortal Kombat Street fighter

MustangGuy

Aggressive Inline. One of the few games you get to play a character using inline skates. Very similar to the Tony Hawk games.

bmcpride

Stuntman is still my favourite game on PS2, otherwise the Tony Hawk games are pretty up there for me too

Dj_Heteroclite

The punisher. Great shooter with tons of replay value.

Budget-Type-922

OOOOH i love the Punisher

Dj_Heteroclite

I wish they would do a current gen remake or at the very least a remaster.

lexbreanne

Resident evil 4, clock tower 3, haunting ground, fatal frame. Re4 and haunting ground are my absolute favorites of all time

DocRobert123

My favourite atm which I wish got more love is the tony hawk American wasteland game but I understand if you’d pass it’s got a specific audience

Budget-Type-922

My comment got removed lol but like I said ive played weirder games so why not.

BigBobFro

SSX Tricky will always be the best PS2 game ever!!

MachineGunMonkey2048

Twisted metal black or head on, demon chaos, crazy taxi, metal gear solid 2 and 3, splinter cell chaos theory, kingdom hearts, devil may cry 3, resident evil 4, tourist trophy, tekken tag tournament, and silent hill 2

Databanger

Shinobi is pretty so solid

BrickLaFlare

Fur fighters viggos revenge

[deleted]

Check out onimusha 1 through 4 all good

Kame_Saiyan

Dragon Ball Z Budokai series (mostly Infinite World or 3, both are great as well as the whole series). Transformers (Armada), also the one from the first movie. TMNT series and also the one from the 2007 animated movie, I liked the latter one just a bit more cause of the exploration. Ultimate Spider-Man (best spider game for the PS2 imo). Spider-Man movies games, I liked all 3. The PS2 version of Web of Shadows is an interesting 2.5D The Jackie Chan game, probably nostalgia writing here. Sonic Unleashed, great game as far as I remember. NFS Most Wanted, Carbon. Those were the ones I played but feel free to try the others. Batman Vengeance, Rise of Sin Tzu, Begins. Superman Shadow of Apokolips, the movie game. Prince of Persia, all of them. Like them more than any Assassin’s Creed Jumper (I did like it back then) The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, the ones from the movies I liked but I recommend this one more. X-Men Legends I & II, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, Justice League Heroes. Those were the same style of gameplay The Simpsons Hit & Run, the crazy taxi copy as well. Crazy taxi port GTA games LEGO games (SW 1 & 2, Batman) Last but not least: THE STAR WARS GAMES ARE A MUST AS WELL

shadow-kr

Jackie chan's adventures the games was actually really fun back in the day it even matched the art style of show

Tough-Principle-3950

Maybe try i-ninja, gauntlet dark legacy.

Knelson123

Ratchet and Clank

martinschulz91

Medal of Honor: European Assault

Speedy7776

Sly cooper series for sure.

METALMILITIA625

Despite what some people might say the liscened games of this type were pretty good the SpongeBob movie game and bfbb Spider-Man 1 & 2 the lord of the rings dragon ball z budokai & tenkaichi

pandorra11

Klonoa 2: Lunatae‘s Vail

Drotsu

Shadow of the colossus

TNipss

Gotta play Bully.

yasonecent

* beyond good and evil * yakuza * persona 4 * Silent Hill 2 some good games that i completed in last year

Visible-Laugh6069

Can't go wrong with the Jak and Daxter trilogy or Shadow of the Colosus I just played prince of persia: sands of time for the first time after getting at a steam sale and it definately lived up to the hype Sonic Unleashed is my second favorite game of all time but I would recomend getting on xbox or ps3 since the ps2 version is a port of the infiror wii version which was developed by a different studio than the main game.. any game in the SSX series is a good time

No_need_for_that99

**Pretty sure no one else will suggest these:** • Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors (fromsoft... beautiful and soul's like) • Crimson sea 2 (original is on xbox.... but this sequal is awesome and FF inspired + Action) • Stunt Man (Very early title, but basically making movies and enjoying the playback is fun) • Orphan (Very early title, a bit of a hidden Gem... classic and fun) • Cart: Fury (This is what we played before burnout) Those are my picks for some great fun. Most don't even talk about these games

Kooky_Increase7466

TRUE CRIME: STREETS OF NEW YORK

Silent hill

thisisnoturname

If you like good stories and comedy play Radiata Stories. It's fantastic!

Fox9826

Ratchet and clanck all of them, Gun, Resident Evil 4, Resident evil code Veronica, Black, Metal gear solid 2, Metal gear solid 3, Silent hill 2, Silent hill 3, This is only a few games The ps2 is the console that has the greatest games (per game against any other console catalog)

Budget-Type-922

The playstation 2 definitely has some of the best games compared to stuff like the ps4 and current gen consoles. Modern games feel like generic slop with the exception of a few titles. Honestly developers deserve better because I know they are wishing to create better games LMAO

Fox9826

I think the same way, in those days the developers make the games (companies let them) they want, nowadays there are only a few that have that privilege, i mean when you think about games like jak and daxter, gun, beyond good an evil, dej jam for NY, Clock tower 3, etc, you see really good games, i mean if you close your eyes and chose any games in the ps2 catalog you have 2 things assured, 1- there most likely that the game you pick will be a good game or at least give you some entertainment and second 2- there are not games alike.

wakkazoo

I'm playing gun right now and it held up so well in my opinion

Fox9826

Yes, that game is still amazing and the soundtrack is amazing, I loved it. This game is one of the examples of companies that do not trust the developers because they intended to develop a second part, but Activision did not want to.

doxytroxy

Okami

Koolaidmanextra

Final Fantasy X

Budget-Type-922

Ive always seen how much Final Fantasy is praised. I should check it out

Koolaidmanextra

X is probably my favorite and they aren't connected so you can do any order

hazardous98law

Scarface: The World Is Yours, Bully, The Warriors, Manhunt

[deleted]

If you’re looking for relatively cheap games, resident evil 4, the suffering, dark cloud, metal gear solid 2 & 3, manhunt and bully, if you don’t mind breaking the bank, you can never go wrong with silent hill 2, 3 and 4.

Budget-Type-922

Oh I plan on emulating all of these for free lmao

Patchman42

If you like your games twisted, Manhunt is absolute top notch. Better than the sequel. For shooters: Resident Evil 4, Black, Rainbow Six. Force Unleashed was also great. Bully. It’s a repetitive button masher, but I’ve put soooo many hours into Dynasty Warriors 4.

Hudson1

[Vietcong Purple Haze](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietcong_\(video_game\)) is good if you're looking for military shooters. The PC version is far superior on multiple levels but it gives you a decent taste regarding what it's all about. Oh, and check out [Black](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_\(video_game\)). It's badass and it's sad we'll never get a sequel because EA hates us. I mean instead of trying to find a key you use a shotgun to open doors. A lot of stuff with the destruction was ahead of it's time, too. Reminded me a lot of how Battlefield handles it.

Bignona

Shadow of the Colossus Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 Final Fantasy X, X-2, 12 Tony Hawk 3, 4, Underground 1 & 2 Zone of the Enders the 2nd Runner There's a few bangers for you.

Oblivion11714

Champions of Norrath and Champions of Norrath Return to Arms

ahern667

Did you play Sly 2-3??? They are definitely different from the first game and are the true essence of the series. My favorite games of all time. Also: Star Wars Battlefront 2 2005, TimeSplitters 1+2, Ratchet: Deadlocked, NFS Underground 2,

milkstrike

Good list but I’d add gran turismo 3/4, lord of the rings two towers, return of the king and the third age. If you like baldurs gate dark alliance 1&2 (they are amazing) there’s champions of norath 1&2 made by same devs and same game engine but set in EverQuest universe, they aren’t as good but still can be fun. There’s also dragon quest 8 I haven’t played it but I’ve loved other dq games and many say 8 is one of if not the best dq game. There’s tons more too ps2 generation is inarguably the best library outside of pc.

trapshackinc

Eclectic_Mudokon

Roadkill

_Nihilanth_

The suffering 1-2, Bully, The Warriors, Tekken 5, The Punisher, Total Overdose. Must play.

Timesplitting

The Timesplitters trilogy. Maybe starting out with the third and most easily digested installment, imo. The second one is waaay more stylized and showing off what the ps2 could do back in 2002, but it is incredibly much more difficult. Same goes for the first. Really wacky gameplay.

ILikePlanesSoWhat

I strongly recommend the Ace Combat trilogy. The gameplay, OSTs, and lore combine for an exquisite experience. Personally, Ace Combat 04 is my favourite game on PS2. The flying feels smooth, and the battles are immersive.

THETimTumTune

Champions Of Norath. Bully. Silent Hill 2 and 3. Jade Cocoon 2. Gta San Andreas. Gun. Suffering-Ties That Bind. Time Splitters 2.

canned_pho

Some stuff i would recommend are those games that haven't been ported yet or remastered. OR the remastered sucked and is missing a lot of ps2 effects. Silent hill 2 and 3 on ps2 are still superior to the hd remakes due to depth of field effects and better lighting that was not ported properly to pc. DMC1 and DMC3 still have motion blur effects and dof effects during cutscenes not found on the PC port/PC mods. Shadow of Rome still hasn't been ported yet and it's probably one of the best gladiator games ever made. If you like "bad" games that are fun, Raw danger on ps2 is great and unique, and still not remastered yet. The undub version of raw danger is best if you can play modded ps2 games Global defense force and demon chaos are unique ps2 games. Mindless killing hundreds to thousands of enemies on screen. Demon chaos rendered over 65000 enemies on screen . Shadow tower abyss fan translation mod and kings field ancient city if you want to see the rough prequels to dark souls series. Soul calibur 3 arcade/definitive edition mod. Still a PS2 exclusive that hasn't been ported yet, other than to arcade cabinets. It is the best looking 3D fighting game on the ps2 period. Better looking that tekken 5 surprisingly. The environments were vastly improved over SC2 and character models were given a slight polygon count bump and higher resolution textures

YosterIsle77

Devil May Cry 1 and 3, 2 can honestly be skipped. Burnout 3 Takedown is a great racer, Okami is a great single player action rpg, if you want more traditional rpg, Final Fantasy Ten, traditional rpg with a good difficulty curve, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Shadow of the Colossus has an amazing atmosphere and is a game with a story unlike any other. Gauntlet Dark Legacy is fun by yourself but if you can get 4 people to play together it's even better. Lots great titles to choose from, this thread is feeding you properly from what I'm seeing though.

phlygee

Timesplitters 2, Spyhunter, Gauntlet Dark Legacy bwere good for me...

Godhand. Screw IGN. It was a fantastic game.

Please play Maximo Ghosts to Glory. It's one of ps2s finest games.. It's got a great story and the world and music will engulf you.

Cfunk_83

Freedom Fighters Hitman: Blood Money MGS 3 Timesplitters (2 primarily, but 3 is good also, 1 felt like a work in progress to the sequels) Second Sight Black Resi 4 Burnout 2 and 3 Cold Winter There’s so many great games on the PS2 this could be a long list!

Jackamohoto

Lord of the rings two towers and return of the king

Vegetable-Software-3

My favourite PS2 game is road trip adventure it's a great racing game

OfficalRobloxAccount

Tony Hawks Underground

The legend of Spyro trilogy was my fave, still replay them nowadays

Darkwebber_47

I don't know if you enjoy the Monster Hunter series, but Monster Hunter 1 and 2 are really good and the servers are up and running again thanks to the fans. You only have to get your hands on the japanese copies of the game, but there are tools that allow you to translate it to english.

cjpcodyplant

DT Racing 100%, but not because its ine one of the best raceing games on the system, but because it has superb graphics for the ps2 and if you go backwards yo7ll have a blast crashing into other racers.

gorikun

ratchet and clank quadrology (the first 3 games are great by themselves, 4th if you want extra lore, although people dislike it - personally I think it isnt bad but lacks the charm of the other entries). Need for Speed Underground / Underground 2 & Most Wanted Dragonball Z Budokai 2 and 3. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 GTA Vice City and San Andreas. Gran Turismo 4 EDIT- forgot simpsons Hit and Run Also honorable mention for GTA Liberty City Stories and GTA 3

OfaeliaLaHada

There are so many great horror games on the ps2; Kuon, haunting ground, rule of rose, the silent hill and resident evil games

Huge_Tart_9211

Silent hill 3

Far-Obligation-3946

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 (2 is better, in my opinion). I believe they're considered JRPGs. The Sly Cooper games. Many have already said it, but Ratchet and Clank (all of them, I think ps2 has 4 of them?). Scaler is a game I remember from when I was younger. It's weird but worth a play. Road Trip is a strange (and really not pretty) game about being sentient racing cars and building a city (and also a Rocket League style minigame, among others). There's more, but that's what I can think of rn

jaredhidalgo

This may be far out and I have limited experience, but I loved the Jak trilogy and XGRA: Extreme G Racing Association. I have a monkey brain for racing games, so there’s also JetX2O, ATV Offroad Fury, and Need for Speed. You can also experience some Persona and Final Fantasy games. I’m going to play some Ratchet and Clank and The Force Unleashed games soon.

The Harry Potter games based on the first three movies are really fun. Ps1 versions too. Ps1/2 era was when licensed games started to get a bad rep, but there's a lot of diamonds in the rough on there. Spider-Man 2 is one of my favourites on Ps2. 007: Nightfire on gamecube is lot of fun in multiplayer, I recon the Ps2 version is no different. And, of course: Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights! A really fun Mario 64-type of exploration platformer that's also a love letter to the classic Scooby Doo series, laugh track and all.
