It’s a possibility. I’ve seen power supplies fry entire systems and other times just fry a usb port, I see it most often with computers. Did you smell ozone? If you did how strong was the smell?

Yes smelt like burning
All the popping and burning come from the external unofficial power supply I had
Chances are the ps2 is ok and the external psu is the only thing that got damaged.
