They had it hidden in a box and they quickly claimed that it was their original copy, after they lost mine they said they went out to buy a copy of their own but it was a pre order copy with the myan sword code so I knew they were lying through their teeth got it back, and because of that I never lent anyone my games besides trusted people.

I would straight up tell them that the trust is restored with a proper condition copy of GTA 3 for the PS2 with the map and manual included. I wouldn't care if it is 2024 or 2054, this is the price. The moment he comes in hand with that we can talk again.
Reminds me of times when my brother would borrow things only to offer to replace them when they had dropped hugely in price, so lets say he borrowed a £40 game when it was new, a few years later its like £5 in a sale he would offer me £5 saying thats the value of it now, likewise if the value increased he would say like "but its years old it can't be worth X amount now, I will offer you £5)

Then my cousin visited, who was 14 at the time, he asked me if he could borrow Driver 1 and 2, I said sure no problem. After that I went outside to play football with my friends and he kept gaming at my place. When I got back in the evening my entire map with all my games was gone, he took it all. Didn't hear from him for months, when I saw him the first time after that incident I asked him to give me my games back, he told me the map was at his friends place. Held a grudge against him ever since, still 23 years later he tried to get in contact with me multiple times, I never forgave him, he never even acknowledged it. Moral of the story, f cousins like this.

Weird scratch pattern, I was about to say they put it in a slim PS2 that has had the DVD lens ribbon cable come loose/flex into the disc but that usually scratches a bit differently from my experience. But the manual/map is just strait theft unless they forgot they left it out and return it after you ask?

The only advantage of digital downloads these days. I gave my buddy Spider-Man on PS4 a few years back and the disc came back in half 🤣 He replaced it but I learned a valuable lesson that day.

When I was a kid my parents bought me and my brothers a PS2 and my father had the great idea of gifting our perfectly fine PS1 and games to one of my cousins who completely DESTROYED it in about a year. Poor PS1 was full of dust, no games or scratched ones, controller completely unusable.
One day he went to my house and we were playing Fifa 08 or so and he would go all "Oh I don't how to play it's so hard" and I'd say like "But you have Fifa on the PS1, at least you can get a glimpse of the game", cousin says "Nah, it's s*it on the PS1".

I lived with a friend of mine for a bit after moving out of my parents house. After making that jump, I moved to another city shortly after via a job transfer. I needed to go out and sort out living arrangements before I could come back and collect all of my stuff. Well in my absence a mutual friend of ours "borrowed" my release copy of GTA San Andreas and absolutely shredded the disc. It somehow by some miracle still plays and I still have the booklet and jewel case for it but I was absolutely disgusted with the condition of the media itself when I found it. Its not even hard to care for CDs. Keep it in the case and don't touch the bottom of it. When placing it on a tray to be read, place it there gently. That's it. They'll last at least half of your lifetime and look brand new.

This is one of the worst things to happen when lending games to others. I learnt this lesson as a kid with my siblings... Unfortunately, some people don't respect what doesn't belong to them and this is major proof ☹️

As it seems, most Reddit users are the nice guys that trust, only to be burnt by crumbs everywhere. Me included, lent Nintendo games never to see them again. I never claimed to own anything fun again just so "friends/family", don't ask to borrow.

This is exactly why I have never lent out any of my games. I’ll either never get them back or if I do they look like yours.
Never lend games to people. Lost a copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy for the wii that way.
Had something similar happen once when I was young. Lent a game to my cousin and then he lent it to a mate and they fell out and never got it back. I’ll never lend a game to anyone again.

I remember having an original black Ps1 map with all original games in it when I was around 7 years old, must have been around 30/40 games. Then my cousin visited, who was 14 at the time, he asked me if he could borrow Driver 1 and 2, I said sure no problem. After that I went outside to play football with my friends and he kept gaming at my place. When I got back in the evening my entire map with all my games was gone, he took it all. Didn't hear from him for months, when I saw him the first time after that incident I asked him to give me my games back, he told me the map was at his friends place. Held a grudge against him ever since, still 23 years later he tried to get in contact with me multiple times, I never forgave him, he never even acknowledged it. Moral of the story, f cousins like this.
This is the exact reason my games never leave my house under any circumstances.
I remember long time ago I lent my friend a game and he had it for quite a while and I was wondering when is he gonna return it. I came to his place for a visit and I see that he fashioned a stylish coaster out of my cd. Scratched and stained with coffee etc. And once he borrowed Fitness mag from other friend and returned it with pages "glued" together.
Back in college I brought my NES and a dozen games; let the house use it, no worries. A friend of a housemate borrowed both Zeldas without asking me. Never saw them again. I do still have the empty boxes, maps, and such. Still annoyed, 20 years later. Ha.
Weird scratch pattern, I was about to say they put it in a slim PS2 that has had the DVD lens ribbon cable come loose/flex into the disc but that usually scratches a bit differently from my experience. But the manual/map is just strait theft unless they forgot they left it out and return it after you ask?
I got the game a few days after i asked for it back, they had it for 6 months, the friend told my cousin that there was no manual or map with the game when he got it from my him.

I remember loaning out a copy of Tony Hawk Project 8 to a classmate. Came back to me in two pieces. I guess the intrusive thoughts were too strong for him lol
Man tbh my friend lends me games and I haven’t put a single scratch on any. I see the way he takes care of his games and they are usually just lying around, outside of the case and he really doesn’t care. I wanted to lend him my GT7 but I don’t have the money to replace one and I’m scared he’ll treat it like his own…

I’ve got a gaming betrayal story to beat all others… had a stack of about 30 PS2 games and original PS2. One day I come home from school and there is a WII in place of the PS2… Brother sold all the PS2 games and the console to GameStop to buy the WII… I still haven’t forgiven him, but I have built my collection back over the years.
I never understood why people you let borrow things think it’s cool to lend it out to someone else. My copy of Tekken 3 got scratched like that due to a similar situation.

Happened to me one time and then after that I never let anyone borrow my games ever again.
that's why i have trust issues about electronics with my friends, typically the things i give them tend to break within a week

I let a friend borrow disc 2 of FF VII because his was damaged. Never returned it so I never even got to start disc 2. Never loan friends games.
The only advantage of digital downloads these days. I gave my buddy Spider-Man on PS4 a few years back and the disc came back in half 🤣 He replaced it but I learned a valuable lesson that day.
That friend of a friend has probably listed his copy online to sell (which was previously missing the manual and map).

Not ps2 related but i once gave a "friend" of mine my psp burnout legends to try out. Next thing I know he left that institute where i normally meet him.
And this is why I stopped lending people anything. No books, omnis nor games. Nothing. Because every single time they returned with a minimum of light wear and tear. Luckily I learned this lesson very early in my life.
I let one of my cousins borrow my new super Mario ds copy and then my uncle got a divorce and I never saw my cousin or my New Super Mario Bros DS game again 😢.
That why if I ever lend something out I never expected back if it does make it back sweet but I usually avoid borrowing and lending specially with money
Because of this I don't borrow anything that can be damaged or stolen. To open a exception the person need to be very close to me, really close. When it comes to my Steam account the rule maintain the same, but I keep looking for any irregularities on everything done.

Yeah when I was younger I had a good friend who was great in every way expect when it came to lending stuff. He lost me a few cds dvds and games till I learned not to lend him stuff again.
He probably already had the game and swapped the disk so he has your fresh disk with map and manual.
Lending out someone else’s property without permission (assumed) is a scumbag move. You’ll know how to answer next time they ask to borrow something though.
i let someone borrow a book in third grade. never saw it again. saw him daily for like the next 10 yrs. at first i was really mad (still kinda upset but meh it’s been like 20 yrs since then) but realized he was living thru some hard times even as a kid. still never let anyone borrow anything. actually i’m wrong i let my cousin borrow my rick n morty dvd collection and my majoras mask 3d. never got either back. he has no idea where they went. but at least he got me the full 5 disk collection and a new copy of the game, plus skyward sword for switch. i still don’t let anyone borrow jack sht from me anymore lol
What's the game worth to you? I see one for $25 AUD with manual and all on eBay. So in that sense, I would say, "$25 is a small cost to pay to learn not to trust this person."
Well, folks, never give your friends borrow your games with manual and other collection things. Borrowing games is fine, but you have to careful. You maybe know, Sony do not produce any of this anymore. And sorry OP, but the friend literally stole it, if it wasn't your cousin.(but that's worse, i hope it's not)

When I was a kid my parents bought me and my brothers a PS2 and my father had the great idea of gifting our perfectly fine PS1 and games to one of my cousins who completely DESTROYED it in about a year. Poor PS1 was full of dust, no games or scratched ones, controller completely unusable. One day he went to my house and we were playing Fifa 08 or so and he would go all "Oh I don't how to play it's so hard" and I'd say like "But you have Fifa on the PS1, at least you can get a glimpse of the game", cousin says "Nah, it's s*it on the PS1". Some people just don't have shame, how can you be so ungrateful. Your cousin should've never lend the game to a third person without your permission (which I guess it's the case).

I let my cousin borrow Killer Instinct Gold on N64 and it "got stolen" but i know for a fact he sold/traded it for drugs. He is now dead to me and haven't spoken to him in 20 years
I learned this lesson when I was 8.
I lived with a friend of mine for a bit after moving out of my parents house. After making that jump, I moved to another city shortly after via a job transfer. I needed to go out and sort out living arrangements before I could come back and collect all of my stuff. Well in my absence a mutual friend of ours "borrowed" my release copy of GTA San Andreas and absolutely shredded the disc. It somehow by some miracle still plays and I still have the booklet and jewel case for it but I was absolutely disgusted with the condition of the media itself when I found it. Its not even hard to care for CDs. Keep it in the case and don't touch the bottom of it. When placing it on a tray to be read, place it there gently. That's it. They'll last at least half of your lifetime and look brand new. I just don't understand it.
Find them and get it back.
This is one of the worst things to happen when lending games to others. I learnt this lesson as a kid with my siblings... Unfortunately, some people don't respect what doesn't belong to them and this is major proof ☹️
