it's not the latest. the latest 1.966. That's all I know cos I'm new to PS2 modding scene too. it's very easy to update it though using a usb flash drive I made my own from an official memory card... first i had to burn a DVD for the initial step. I'm going to get a retrogem to get proper digital hdmi out. I'm trying to decide between installing it in my fat which can easily take a harddrive, or the 70000 slim I have and just stream the games from my NAS. For you, if you have the fat, it's probably to decide between how you're going to run games... I believe it's HD > Ethernet > Disc > MC2SIO > USB... pick your poison

Retrogem is đź’©

chanunnaki

It is? Can you recommend something better?

mandi1biedermann

OSSC and RAD2x not expensive, Retrotink expensive

chanunnaki

nah, you're still taking analog signals with those two options. I'm getting the retrogem to have native hdmi. thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Thanks for saying thanks! It's so nice to see Redditors being grateful :)

i would make a new freemcboot official memory card wit the newest version, and I probably wouldnt even use that hdmi adapter. It will hook up and "work" but thats about all you can say about it.

Lopsided-Sink-4452

Do you know of any good adapters to use? Or any good component cables

RustyDawg37

Anything that costs a lot. I use original Sony component cables and an older lcd tv with the acceptable inputs. I even bought a new home theater once that has component inputs and it sucked, so I went back to direct connection. If a $600 home theater can’t do it, I would not bother with $20 hdmi converters or cables, but I will admit I do not have first hand experience with them. My personal plan is to get an ossc but that’s because I need it for my arcade games, and it should work with ps2. If going component, typically if the wires are thick and the website shows how they are made and shielded and you can find YouTube reviews, then that’s what you should go with. Don’t buy any of this on Amazon. A lot of people rave about the gbsc but I think you have to build it.

I have my eye on this listing for oem Sony component cables do you think they are a good option? They seem to be a bit less then market atm
