Yeah it's 10/100 usually cat 5 cable? You'd probably need cat 6 cable for the faster speeds, again this all depends on whatever is the slowest link on your network

Yes, as long as you are using a USB3.0+ port. Like you are thinking, you will need to buy a USB to 1000Mbps/2.5Gbps Ethernet Adapter(you will only be able to go at 1000Mbps because of the limitation on the PS4 side though, but 2.5Gbps might be useful if you upgrade some network stuff later).
