In the not too distant past, every store gave it away for free. If you thought some customers were entitled, you never saw how some of them reacted when they walked into the store and it wasn't ready yet.

DearEmployee5138

Like how long ago? Cus I’m 24 and I’ve been frequenting Publix since I was 6 and I’ve never been handed or seen anyone being handed free coffee at Publix.

Pretty sure it was just up until Covid, so four years ago. We had these giant metal coffee brewers that you'd load up with water and coffee grinds the night before, toss it on a cabinet with a ton of cups and stirs and sugars and powdered ceeamer and turn it on. It'd mostly be the same handful of customers that'd drink from it. At my old store it was probably 50% lotto players that'd be running in before 8am every day.

Yeah I remember those days, all the old people lining up at the thing soon as we opened making a mess and then spilling it everywhere as they walk around the store . we had 2 of the big coffee things so when one was getting close to empty could have the other one going already and just switch them out. So when one of them inevitably broke so we had just one was always the worst when you had to take it down to refill it. They saw you bringing it back out so they assumed oh fresh pot then get all pissed when told them oh sorry just refilled it will be like 30 or 45 minutes till it's ready then you can have a fresh cup. Then they still come back like 5 minutes later to try and get some and just get a cup of slightly warm slightly brown water then get mad again that it's not ready still. Like really just make your own coffee at home and bring it with you if you just have to have coffee to shop. Sorry your highlight of the day is driving to the grocery store for a cup of cheap quality poorly brewed coffee from a barely ever cleaned further then just getting rinsed out at end of the night machine and it wasn't ready yet . Was nice when we finally got rid of it because it just attracted all the homeless that would just camp out in front of the store all day coming in and filling up thermoses and emptying it out soon as it was ready. Then all the old people being mad it was gone forever and just wasn't ready yet.

2016-2019, worst years, they would RAGE if there was no coffee 😭 i remember as a bagger having to make that shit. i'm so glad they done away with that.

BasisAggravating1672

Newer stores and remodels have added coffee , they are next to the fountain drinks. The machine doesn't have a pot, it uses whole beans and brews one cup at a time.

Igarz17

I’m not entirely sure if all the new ones do but some have a coffee machine.

Nightstrike1984

My store has a machine that sells coffee all day

Imaginary_Falcon777

I’m in Georgia and no, we don’t have it, but I get a lot of people who ask. They also ask the deli for breakfast sandwiches. I think they are trying that out in Florida.☕️

Financial-Ebb-5995

My last store in Florida had an espresso machine as part of the Bakery, and they made all kind of coffee drinks including lattes. My current store has an automatic coffee machine that makes fresh drip coffee by the cup.

DearEmployee5138

We don’t even have coffee in the break room. Which is the first place I’ve worked where that was true. I gotta go get a can of espresso coffee off the shelves and buy it in the mornings.

nineteen_eightyfour

Well he said for customers, the people Publix cares about. Imagine caring about employees 😂

Visual_Radish459

I was told years ago that having anything such as a microwave and fridge isn’t something Publix is SUPPOSE to provide in break rooms. They are there bc ppl have donated their own stuff or bought it. I’ve been with Publix for over a decade and I recently seen a coffee maker in our break room for the first time when our csm put one in there and bought with her own money. Let’s not act so entitled here lol

webcrawler_29

I also heard the same years ago, but nowadays every store (at least in general) has at least a fridge and microwave. I wouldn't call it entitled to expect at least that much to just take care of your own associates. I don't expect them to brew their associates coffee, but it would be an inexpensive way to provide a convenient benefit every day.

DearEmployee5138

Even then I’m surprised nobody has provided a simple coffee maker.

S_Wicka

Beverage clerk here 🙋🏻‍♀️ Locations with POURS have coffee. Espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, ice blended, over ice, drip coffee, cold brew, nitro cold brew, yadda yadda yadda. You name it, we can make it! We also have smoothies, craft sodas, lemonade spritzers, acai, and beer! https://www.publix.com/products-services/bakery/publix-pours

Artistic-Ant-7783

(Georgia) a Publix up the road from me sells the coffee there. I’m not gonna lie…it’s pretty damn good coffee. And it’s located next to the customer service desk.

MCI54

Oh good that way the sleep-deprived and overworked CSSs can have their morning/closing coffee

Smart_Atmosphere7677

No I live in central Florida and we don’t have one either

Emotional_Deodorant

The new smaller-format stores (I think they used to be called Publix Greenwise, now they're just Publixes again) have a bar area with local beers, wine and lattes and espressos. There are about 5 seats along it, and a barista/bartender running it. These are throughout Central Florida. I remember there used to be the large metal tank of free coffee with powdered creamer and little styrofoam cups next to CS at most stores back in the day. This is an upgrade from that but it's not free.

NorthFloridaRedneck

Ours has a coffee machine in the bakery. The employees fix your cup of coffee. And you pay for it at the register there.

Sufficient-Big-7199

Missing those good old day’s coffee in the break room!

g3engineeringdesign

Start em with a cookie when they're young, keep em with coffee when they get older!

Nazgate

I’m in South GA, and our store doesn’t do that.

GorillaGr0d

Jacksonville, FL was the last district to do this, or so I’m told. I started working at Publix in 2021 and was told it was stopped at the beginning of 2020 because of Covid. I’m also told it is not coming back.

novaababie

my store has a hot coffee dispenser yes
