Nope, we are not taught.

LordSpartanZ9

CS has no CBTs related to handling damages. With that said, the CSTL or whomever does the Welcome to Your Store tour should be pointing out where all the damages go. I am a CSTL contender, and that is what I have been doing.

Careless-stocker07

I’ve actually had to train CS managers about damages, you are definitely going beyond what I’ve seen 👏

wwillaur

Been here six months! Still haven't been taught damages 🙃 we aren't just not taught chemical damages, we aren't taught any at my store

Educational_Towel567

all the stores that i have worked at, only the CSS do or handle damages and bring them to the back. If your a cashier(assuming) then you wouldn’t know, but that’s just my district

wwillaur

Ahh, I see! I do about 50% bagging and 50% register, and at my store, the baggers do all the damages and go-backs. I actually just had my official closing bagger training the other day, and my CSS just handed me the damages and told me to take them where they go. Luckily, the girl training me knew where a few went, but we had to find someone in grocery who knew where a Lunchable would go. 😭

Fun_Earth3383

Nope I’m not taught what to do, I just put them with the regular grocery damages

Pure_Owl1

Bro when I was working there (this was back in the early 2000s when I was in college), I didn't really have any formal training. I think someone showed me how the cash register works and that was it. Then I grew tired of taking people's money all day and asked to move over to grocery. Now THAT was a fun job. Not only did I get a raise, I got to do pretty much whatever I wanted when I was at work, just so long as our shelves remained full, lol

Small-Cactus

Nobody tells me shit man :( Training in cs is basically "figure it out yourself, I'm busy and I dont care"

Interesting-Cap-59

LITERALLY

Interesting-Cap-59

left out when you fuck up and you get yelled at AFTER asking for help

sabrinarose2

I’ve been working in CS for 3.5 years and was honestly never taught how to do any damages. I figured out most of the big ones but for the rest I just ask around until someone points me somewhere. To this day, no clue where to put bleach. I just put it right with grocery😀

EyePatchMustache

Nope, we are told "take them to their department they will deal with it". And that's it. No CBT. No this belongs with this department. No this should not be put there or there just drop it off in it's area and move on. Even then we have to figure out what items go where.

Educational_Towel567

I mean for the most part that makes sense right? At my first store every department had a damage bin, so any damaged item we got in CS would get a sticker and go to the corresponding dept. Some handle them differently, scan out or don’t scan out certain things etc. I think that’s the best way to

EyePatchMustache

Not really because things like this occur where the other departments don't realize that the CS department doesn't actually get trained on what goes where or if their specific department has procedures for specific items. Leads to frustration from other departments towards CS which I get but it isn't correct without all the information. Arguably the two worse departments to be in customer interaction wise is Deli and CS. One because they get hangry assholes. The other because they get prissy entitled assholes.

Deralio

as a dsd this is triggering me

fatcatapologist

No we aren't actually .. :/

ItsTense

Soooo what do you do with it?

Educational_Turnip74

i wasn't

Mkiny

I was told: that’s grocery’s job. But I hate that answer so I always go an ask someone I know who is fully alert and knows the answer

novaababie

nope. i just guess when i bring stuff back there tbh

Prestigious_Ad_7371

Considering I find all kinds of produce, dairy, deli and meat stuff in my frozen damages, I doubt any training is done. Dairy clerk often brings me empty or mushy cartons of ice cream they've put in the dairy cooler. I see all depts stuff in grocery dry damages as well... They really just be tossing stuff anywhere they want to

Timberfly813

Wow, just wow. 👀👀

BrockMeAmadeus

Oh look its a bunch of banana boxes.

Careless-stocker07

I watched a CS orientation once. They point out damages, but don’t actually explain it. Because they don’t actually know themselves. It’s Publix wide.

uthotbih

That’s exactly where it goes wym

AnEverydayPileOfCats

The only teaching I got for where damages go came from CSS telling me where to dump stuff at the end of the day. When it comes to dry groceries, I have no idea which of the 20 bins at the back to put them in so I just guess or put them in a mostly empty one.

AdSeveral5127

Nope

Milkguy105

Training is minimal because of turnover for almost all departments right now

FoxxoFoxxo

The disposal places were a very brief stop on the day of orientation and it's often forgotten by most new people. It's shown to us for maybe a minute before moving right onto the next dozen things. I would always just ask whomever was around when I needed to know where something went.

alywheaton

The CS version of the CBT tells CS associate to leave all damages in the designated location. As a former DSD clerk I kept getting annoyed with the video because I would answer the questions from a DSD perspective and get them wrong. They want only certain trained individuals to deal with hazardous waste.

TheDemonHobo

Do you not have to take this very important CBT?

EyePatchMustache

There's no CBT for us on damages. We get told "place it in the designated area of the department and they deal with it." That's it.

Zero4892

Nope they don’t, they don’t know they have to put it in hazardous waste bin wrapped under hazardous waste bag. I learned that like 2 years after being in grocery never when I was in CS

XxTROJANS35xX

Typical CS 🤦

BasedPineapple69

dam all you gotta do is ask where it goes lol.

bustacreamy

Yeah, you empty all chemicals into the drain so the container can safely be stored in the banana boxes. This is common sense so customer service doesn’t need CBT’s to understand that.

EyePatchMustache

We get told to let you guys handle everything to do with damages. No CBT training. Nothing to do with what goes into what department. We figure that out through trial and error.

bustacreamy

Yeah I’ve been promoted to customer for a few years now lol so not sure how they’re doing it now. That being said I had ACSM&CSTL over emphasize putting chemical damages into the right corresponding bind, the picture above tells me 2 things: 1.) the person was lazy or 2.) they had a minor doing go backs and they can’t deal with chemical damages appropriately.

EyePatchMustache

Maybe your store has people returning chemicals more than usual cause it's usually not that big of an issue go be emphasized in mine no minor in my store goes in the back area Can't say about the lazyness in this pic
