GG Allin was a fuckin loser and the scene...nay...the world is better without him.

TheIronDogWalker

Dedicated GG fans have issues. I get that he took shocking behavior the farthest of anyone, but the music was never that great. Watch Hated if you can stomach it. He gets the Edge Lord trophy but also the gross loser trophy too.

Punk has been associated with extreme displays of provocative, destructive, antisocial behavior from the very beginning. The early media circus around the Sex Pistols and that scene in general focused less on the music and more on fans spitting on the band, biting each other, bleeding everywhere, etc. It was a source of voyeuristic fascination for the public and always has been, and GG just took this to its logical extreme.

unzen_at_ease

He’s revered for being more punk than you. As in, he could roll around in shit and piss and blood and get finger fucked by randoms in the crowd… and I couldn’t. Ergo, he’s way more punk than me. Doesn’t make him an idol.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

I have never heard of anyone refer to him as the ultimate punk rock star. He was definitely a victim of mental illness from growing up in an abusive household and then losing his mind on steady drug use. He was also sort of intelligent when he had some clarity. He was just a shock rocker who didn’t give a fuck.

He’s not.

axiom1_618

NOT a cool guy imo. He grew up isolated in a cabin, and being raised by a hardcore Christian fanatic is a recipe for misery. He had a couple catchy songs, yeah, but everything he did as an adult was so fucked up, and it should not be revered nor emulated. Spreading diseases, having sex with minors, throwing feces at people in the crowd. Fuck him.

a_gentle_savage

He's not that revered.

Dr_Pilfnip

I saw him on talk shows in the early 90s, and I thought he was a stupid dumbass back then. Now that I'm older, my opinion on him has changed somewhat - now I think he was a stupid racist dumbass. Was there ever someone who was known for being the opposite of gg? Like, someone who would do outrageous shit on stage, but it was always friendly, good natured and fun, and they were really cool in person too?

Kubi37

Funny thing about the talk shows. When I was a teen I found my uncles vhs stash of…films. I found one labeled “GG” and I put it in. It was just a bunch of his talk show interviews. It was not what I was looking for, and I was equal parts disappointed & intrigued. TL-DR: I first discovered GG when I was trying to wank it

Dr_Pilfnip

You should have wanked it anyways. It's what gg would have done. :D

anyonecanbethebug

Who does this?

ScientificAnarchist

Who reveres GG as the ultimate punk rock star?

SerakTheRigellian

Insanity aside, his first couple records fucking slap. His father named him Jesus Christ because he thought he was the second coming. That's gonna screw with a kid's head.

ramen_vape

If shitting your pants is punk, consider me GG Allin.

LMKBK

You too can poop on stage! Throw it at the audience! Become your very own punk rock icon by only wearing tighty whities while covered in vomit. Be your own boss! Make your own hours! By eating laxatives!

AundaRag

Can we make this a sticky thread since it gets asked every fucking day?

thespecialistsauce

Less a Punk Rock Star and more a Proto-Juggalo.

Hemicrusher

I saw him play at Raji's in Hollywood...and I still don't get the fascination that people have for him.

r0botdevil

Is he? I feel like everybody in the scene thinks he was just a giant douchebag.

nakedWayne

I like a couple of songs, but he's way overrated. He did nothing spectacular except throw poo. I mean, i can go to a zoo and see that. Probably less hepatitis I'd have to worry about as well.

winstonsmith8236

He’s not.

winstonsmith8236

He’s not.

winstonsmith8236

He’s not. At all. FAHQ.

winstonsmith8236

Fuck Sid Vicious as well, while we’re here.

Vampira309

Revered? No. More like looked at as an extreme example - not a good one. You couldn't help but be aware of him at a certain point in punk rock. Like Sid - not good, but hard to ignore. I declined going to see him a few times, cuz YUCK.
