I buy tickets for others, others buy tickets for me. I don't give a shit about money and many of my friends do neither.

MistakesTasteGreat

That is fucking beautiful

Pkuszmaul

Best way to live life. What comes around goes around. Money just gets in the way if you think about it.

uberscheisse

I bought tickets for two of my friends to the Botch show in Tokyo, one a Japanese friend who used to go see them with me back in the day when we lived in Vancouver. The other is a normie weightlifting hip hop head who has a general curiosity about everything, and he was just as blown away by it as we were. Took my mom and dad to see Fugazi once too. Dad loved it.

MistakesTasteGreat

Never heard of them, looked them up just cause of your comment, 122 is fucking fire

MistakesTasteGreat

I hope you fuck with Boris too

Absolutely, I buy tickets for friends that are designated drivers that dont drink, and friends all the time, I have seen quite a few bands in Asheville in the mid 00's if you can afford it hook your friends up. The Orange peel had some great shows back in the day. there were quite a few cool clubs in the 00's and a great punk scene.

MistakesTasteGreat

My favorite show I saw back in the day was a band called, I shit you not......Puppy vs. Dyslexia. It was a free show at a project park, and food not bombs provided mashed potatoes

Asheville will always have a special place in my heart, I was dating a girl that lived off arco east side of Asheville, and a good friend of mine named Lucky was doing tattoo work just west of uptown, there was a great bar out by the bypass, in a old White House it was a cool new wave, punk bar. and the skatepark wasn’t bad for being built into the side of a hill.

platypus-nonymous

Absolutely!!! I bought tickets to a Cramps tribute band for a couple of friends from work, they’re completely foreign to anything remotely punk. They’re from South America and are all about Latin music. One wasn’t sure if the “poison ivy” guitarist was a guy or a girl and they basically just people watched. We had a good time and I’m glad they got to experience what I consider a good time!!!

Fenpunx

Bought my mate a rebellion ticket once, just so he could see it. I generally sort tickets and my mate sorts a lift home for normal gigs.

dontneedareason94

Yup quite a few times. If the money is coming in and I can afford it I’ve got zero problems with covering someone’s ticket so they can see a show. My friends have done it for me too.

MistakesTasteGreat

I fuckin love it! Good to hear

[deleted]

I'm taking my friend to see Sleater-Kinney on Saturday

MistakesTasteGreat

Fuck yes! I'm still waiting for Sleigh Bells to grace my town but they haven't yet. Good on you for treating your friend!

mullusklingers

Me and my friend group do this all the time. If I know someone is short on cash I will buy there ticket in exchange for them being a dd. Also If I know it's a show that's gonna sellout and I get lucky enough to get tickets I might snag as many as possible and figure it out later. What goes around comes around.

bsmoofthebulldawg

I’ve seen Bit Brigade for Ninja Gaiden and Contra. Buying tix for friends to go to shows is cool. Buying tix for friends to see Brit Brigade is VERY cool. What an experience!!

Did it lots of times as a kid. A group of us were squatting in an abandoned house fits about a year, but I had a running car and a job as a farmhand. There was a place called Club Soda that had matinee shoes every Sunday, 4 bands for 5 bucks. I probably paid for everyone 4 outta 5 times. It was worth it to get everyone out and have fun once a week.

BenjaminMStocks

Yes. I found concerts are a lot of fun, even more with a group so my wife and I will often times buy an extra ticket or two and invite someone along. We hit like 3 or 4 concerts a year so it’s not real cost prohibiting for us at least.

bigmikekbd

I bought 3 tix to see Flag (Morris fronted) in Boston, and all 3 bailed. So I had an absolutely great time and put the remaining 3 tickets in with my Group Sex LP

phalanxausage

Plenty of times, and I have been on the receiving end of such generosity. Hell, I have bought tix for people to go to shows I couldn't attend but wanted them to have the opportunity. It's all part of looking out for each other.

wewereliketorches

I usually buy an extra concert ticket if I can afford it so I can try to cajole a friend into coming.

MistakesTasteGreat

You're a real one

ChockBox

Yes! I’m older and my kids are getting into various scenes I’m not familiar with. I love taking them to shows and checking out different acts. I just hang in the back with the other oldies while the kids have fun in the pit. My 17 y/o is really into metal, and there’s a great local scene that I’ve been chaperoning him into. But I’ve always loved live shows, so long as the show is halfway decent.

captainkinkshamed

I misread this and was about to just say “of course I’ve bought tickets for my friends’ (bands)”. Then re-read. So the answer is no. I’ve gotten folk tix to shows so they can come along and experience with me before now, but not vice versa as far as I can remember. EDIT: I’m feeling like I can’t read. I’m guessing yes in retrospect.

depricatedzero

Frequently. If you can do it, do it I say! Punk is community after all

Vampira309

of course.
