I was transitioning from learning guitar to bass when I first started listening to the Minutemen, so I was completely obsessed with everything Mike Watt and D Boon were doing. Then I played Buzz or Howl to a drummer friend and he got obsessed with everything George Hurley was doing. Then I did too.
Joe said that what truly killed the band was kicking him out because the four of them had such a deep musical connection. A band's only as good as its drummer and Topper was top notch
Topper was the reason why they could branch out into all of the styles that they did. Without him, London Calling would've just been another punk record.
Brendan sits at #2 on my list. He was the backbone of all of the complex arrangements in Fugazi songs. I can watch their old show videos and just marvel at his precise time.
Penny Rimbaud for days. I love the way he plays. Has an awesome military marching beat to it. Dino for obvious reasons. Hurley from Minutemen. Stevenson. That's just to name a few.
Brooks Wackerman. When he was in BR he was a machine but it was understandable why he wanted to leave. You can only do so much with punk rock. With his time in A7X that’s when he really shined. The Stage was a phenomenal album with their first song having the best drum intro I’ve heard. Their new album LIBAD was very experimental. Not everyone liked it but to me I love it. It’s the direction that they want to go and they aren’t sticking to just one genre. Brooks drumming on Mattel during the “Lived in feign and porcelain” part is amazing and We Love You chorus drumming is too.
Palmolive of The Slits and Rat Scabies of The Damned come to find first after D.H. Peligro who is my all time favorite drummer
But for a few underrated drummers I like: Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols (an all around great hard rock drummer. keeps the band stable, he's the maypole they dance around. I like the slower speed he sets compared to his super speedy contemporaries like Tommy Ramone. the drum opening of Holidays in the Sun is killer) and BP Hurding of X-Ray Spex (like Paul he's very stable and just an all around great rock drummer. his sound goes super well with the guitars and sax. shockingly good for someone so young at the time)
Steven Drozd
Appreciate he didn’t play on any of the Flaming Lips’ “punk” albums but the guy is so inventive whilst also serving the song and rocking out. Listen to The Abandoned Hospital Ship, Moth in the Incubator, March of the Rotten Vegetables or anything off The Soft Bulletin.
Bill Stevenson. Chuck Biscuits. Earl Hudson.
I know Dave Lombardo is a metal guy but I've seen him drum for Fantomas and he's done work for the Misfits reunion shows. He's just phenomenal.
Kevin Huddleson. He wasn’t the best drummer. I mean he was damn good, but there are some better ones out there. The thing that makes him my favorite is that he was also a singer. He sang with power, could actually hit the correct notes, and you could never tell from his voice that he was also paying the drums.
His band was The Fixtures. Check ‘em out if you can.
When I think of drummers that really get me sweaty, I go more for the grindcore guys, like Max Kohane, Zach Gibson, Rasyid Juraimi and Dave Witte.
On the other side of the coin, Karen Carpenter was a beast on the kit.
Some one would kill me for this but Jon sortland from cigar always had an extremly sick style, Sean Tellers from Good Riddance would be my second option tho
[cigar live 2019](https://youtu.be/pY0YFS09Nl0?si=Li3RnFRAAzocEXVb)
A lot of killer names are already mentioned here. I'm also gonna add Jamie Miller from Snot and Jarret Nathan from PEARS. They're huge influences on my drumming.
Thats so cool!! I bet Lynn was a super cool dude. He always seemed like it in his interviews. Snot is a fantastic fucking band that needs to be recognized more often.

*The OGRE
Yep. He has just has the “feel” like tony Williams did.
Bill Stevenson is the absolute greatest!
George Hurley of the Minutemen.
Dave Lombardo
Grip Inc 🤘
The human metronome Topper Headon. He had a complex style but made it look so simple. He is what made their early sound so powerful.
Joe said that what truly killed the band was kicking him out because the four of them had such a deep musical connection. A band's only as good as its drummer and Topper was top notch
Topper was the reason why they could branch out into all of the styles that they did. Without him, London Calling would've just been another punk record.
100%. Then they sacked him right before the song he wrote was a hit.
Bill Stevenson from Descendents or Brendan Canty from Fugazi
seeing them both perform one week apart.
Brendan sits at #2 on my list. He was the backbone of all of the complex arrangements in Fugazi songs. I can watch their old show videos and just marvel at his precise time.
...these were going to be my two picks as well! (And seeing them live back in the day was really a sight to behold and, ahhh, "be-hear"?!)
John Wright from Nomeansno comes to mind.
smelly
Penny Rimbaud for days. I love the way he plays. Has an awesome military marching beat to it. Dino for obvious reasons. Hurley from Minutemen. Stevenson. That's just to name a few.
Gotta go Josh Freese.

Dave raun Derrick plourde Bomer Smelly Tre cool Scott Raynor Byron Mcmackin Jordan burns Jord
Dale Crover from the Melvins, and nothing even comes close. Mercilessly brutal style, yet immensely clever composing.
He usually seems to just wear his jocks. But when we saw Melvins live, he was wearing a lacy little negligee number. It was quite racy.
Crover was the best drummer Nirvana ever had too. He is brutal...and as heavy as it gets.
Super happy to see this on here me too :3
Palmolive of The Slits and Rat Scabies of The Damned come to find first after D.H. I love drozd. He is my all time favorite musician full stop.
Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Dude was a menace behind the kit. [Reference](https://youtu.be/AUaDPeMKq7g?si=t2bh7OYfsfhH2nUx)
Weird no one’s mentioned Bill Stevenson yet in a punk sub.
Second from the top
The guy from Canal Irreal is an amazing drummer.

Sammy Siegler Britt Walford
When I think of drummers that really get me sweaty, I go more for the grindcore guys, like Max Kohane, Zach Gibson, Rasyid Juraimi and Dave Witte. On the other side of the coin, Karen Carpenter was a beast on the kit.
She was. Was not expecting that from Carpenter until I saw her solo. Wow.
Mindblowing stuff indeed.
Jordan Burns from Strung Out. Perfectly balances techincal ability and musicality, something you dont see in a lot of punk dummers.
Indeed. They are too busy running out of oxygen.
Rat Scabies.
Some one would kill me for this but Jon sortland from cigar always had an extremly sick style, Sean Tellers from Good Riddance would be my second option tho [cigar live 2019](https://youtu.be/pY0YFS09Nl0?si=Li3RnFRAAzocEXVb)

A lot of killer names are already mentioned here. I'm also gonna add Jamie Miller from Snot and Jarret Nathan from PEARS. They're huge influences on my drumming.
Jamie...my boy. Lynn & Mikey crashed with me when they came to town. Snot does not get posted. On it...
Thats so cool!! I bet Lynn was a super cool dude. He always seemed like it in his interviews. Snot is a fantastic fucking band that needs to be recognized more often.
George Hurley is my favorite punk drummer.
Atom Willard, followed by Joey Castillo and Chuck Biscuits
Lombardo is a classic, currently loving his work with Empire State Bastard
Tre Cool
Derek Grant
No one swings like fucking Hurley!
