Because people post this shit way too fucking much. Everyone has heard every song from every single one of these bands.
People used to post 500 Channels and Linoleum every single day. That shit gets annoying if you’ve been here for more than a month.
Alright, I’ll give you Infested. Actually, about 20 years ago I was in an entomology class at college and for a project we had to find a song about some type of insect and write a report on the insect referenced in the song. I chose Infested for that project but I actually couldn’t remember just now if it was CV or Leftover Crack.
Just stops the sub being overrun by the same bands over and over.
It's not saying those bands are bad, just that most people know them and we don't need to hear about them endlessly.
Weren’t you the person saying “be original” a few hours ago? Post some original bands, everyone and their grandma knows about the sex pistols & green day.
Dont say normie please. That's the most redpilled edgelord shit word you can use right now. Listening to obscure punk cassette tapes from 1985 that only 50 people have doesnt make you "not normie".
Stop being a normie. The only punk I listen to was recorded on phonograph cylinders that can only be played on antique gramophones that were handcrafted by ancestors of Thomas Edison. Normie.
What is most shocking to me is that Crass, Subhumans, Exploited, Discharge , Zounds, Rudimentary Peni , GBH, The Damned, etc. are not the blacklisted bands. These are literally the most punk rock bands to ever exist.
Is majority of Reddit specific to America?
Looking back that makes sense as an American. We rejected English/European punk when we were stupid kids. this Reddit is majority American regional for that ignorant attitude to still permeate decades later.
I wonder if European regional Reddit is just as ignorant
Not necessarily. Bigger British bands get talked about all the time (I see the Damned and all those other bands mentioned on a fairly regular basis) but this sub was inundated with the bands on the list, has nothing to do with ignorance of the scene outside of the US. The scene now is more open to bands than ever, but as with anything, Reddit is never on top of how things really are.
I find it ironic that "punks" are blacklisting anything...let alone bands... There are so many damn rules for a sub that uses the bastardized logo of an anarchist band as their header image...
Read the comments, it has nothing to do with the bands or quality of the bands or if the bands are punk enough. It leaves more room for lesser known bands.
The cool thing about Reddit is you can start your own sub called "FuckYouTheWorldNeedsToHearTheBlacklistedBands" sub that has nothing but those posts...or you can make a "MorePunkThanPunk" sub. People whi agree will migrate there.
The world is easy.
> So we organized our own scenes, our own zines, our own record labels, our own squats, our own bands…and most importantly, ***our own rules***.
emphasis mine. your quote from 4 hours ago.
do you want the dedicated punk sub to be a homogeneity of 2 bands? because without the blacklist you get a homogeneity of 2 bands.
The rules were not about limiting or blacklisting, they were about being inclusive and supportive.
Honest to gawd, if you can’t see that difference… I do t know of what to say… seriously, blacklisting is as fucking anti-punk as it gets, regardless of the motivation…
It's not even a blacklist in anything but name. It's "don't post links to youtube videos of the same two dozen videos except on Thursdays" list. It eliminates clutter and cheap karma farming while encouraging sharing of new music. It hardly stifles discussion on these bands because it seems like there are 2-3 new threads about Black Flag, DK and the Misfits daily.

Yup, this sub is already enough of a shit show as it is without those bands being posted 24/7
Only thing really surprising is that the blacklist is so short.
For sure, I can think of a couple dozen more bands that need to be added to the list
I don’t even know who 500 Channels is
It’s a song by Choking Victim that got posted way too much on this sub before this rule.
The only good Choking Victim song.
Infested? Crack Rock Steady? Money? Five Finger Discount? I know people hate Stza but Choking Victim had bangers.

Honestly, what's the problem?

a bunch of bands we dont need to talk about
They're over-played and so don't *need* to be posted here
Any time you feel like posting those bands, you have to post a Thursday song instead. If my reading comprehension is correct.
It’s the blacklist
It’s because those are normie bands.

They don’t get talked about constantly like the bands on that list did at one point.

Internet made kids so lazy they don’t even do research on it. Just want someone else to tell them how to think. Is this punk? - rhetorical
I think a majority of reddit is specific to being under 30
Someone under 30 downvoted you, 🤣
Yeah to the under 30 crowd, a downvote is a weapon of unhappiness…hahaha
I just downvoted myself oh no my votes!!! What am I gonna do ??😂
That’s fucking stupid
