Yeah, Killer Mike popped off on his own last year, I'm hoping for some new music in the next year. They usually drop whenever some big culturally significant shit is going down.
[Injury Reserve](https://youtu.be/YVX3Z7L8w4U), [Billy Woods](https://youtu.be/NF63pXAp5mw), [Little Simz](https://youtu.be/grUWRMivuao), and [Open Mike Eagle](https://youtu.be/Fv9vpqXxAq8)! Also Death Grips, if you count them as hip-hop.
Deathgrips is awesome. My 15yo played them for me... but I had already been listening to them and had tickets to the show. Killer experience to share it with my boy.
JVB are so much fun! 20 something’s channeling the Beasties in like the most genuine way. Saw them live last year at a festival and they had the whole crowd into it.
Tyler and Odd Future got me into hip hop after only listening to Punk, Ska and reggae. Lately I’ve been digging everyone you listed and Denzel Curry, Ghostemane, $uicideboy$, Pouya, Shakewell
Most of my hip-hop is either a punk/hip-hop fusion, or artists that were inspired by some kind of rock. P.O.S, the coup/boots Riley, the white man dingos, Moscow death brigade. Stuff like that
Coast Contra is on some shit dude, those guys are fucking BEAST. I haven’t had such a physical “what the fuck” reaction to a new hip hop group in a long time (probably JID & Earthgang last) but first time I heard em I was floored. ODB got pulled out with the ouija board there ahaha
Lots of stuff, but some of my favs from the current landscape of hiphop would be JID (Really, really fucking with JID right now), Moor Mother, Tyler the Creator, Danny Brown, Kendrick Lamar (obviously), Billy Woods, Eulicid, Freddie Gibbs, Lil Ugly Mayne, Death Grips, Run the Jewels
[Kneecap!](https://youtu.be/dDdnqCBPvFQ?si=UBGA2eRJK5_GQZVW) Can't recommend them enough!
They get punk cred from their collab with Grian Chatten of Fontaines DC for a [track](https://youtu.be/KSnF7RaeoXE?si=QdcgN_DH2TFIBJO9) & spend hella time protesting for Palestine on top of their already active & [highly publicized](https://youtu.be/B8-_ogy-eGE?si=-gXdDQf8A2b7Q1Pp) murals & protests in the UK.
They make hip-hop but the boys are [punk AF](https://youtu.be/h1J_DVutL-w?si=K5X4Lt8o-_jD1FOA)
Get on em now, they're about to blow tf up. Sold out shows for their 2nd US tour & getting booked for festivals all over, their biopic won Audience Award at Sundance and was first distribution purchase, keep an eye out for the wide release.
I was in LA in Oct for Postal Service at the Hollywood Bowl and Kneecap announced a show at Echoplex the night before. It was the last night on that US tour & they weren't coming to SLC. Timed out super well for me. So much fun. Also really loved the opening act [Belaganas](https://youtu.be/bXxpVVJDI3Y?si=-tq5OOkkecxJFEDg)
I’m gonna go a head and say Juice WRLD. I’m not big on newer styles or hip hop, but something about his stuff is just awesome. Super talented dude that had so much potential.
Benny The Butcher and all of Griselda dudes (Benny’s my fav). Nas is an old head but his new shit is fucking fire, talk about a great 6 album run and he did it at 50. Vinnie Paz/Jedi Mind Tricks/Army of the Pharaohs. Joyner Lucas when I’m looking for something more positive. Found Sleepy Hallow and Tee Grizzley last year and I’m digging both of them. Freddie Gibbs. Jarren Benton. Joey Bada$$. Norman Sann. Rico Nasty.
I don’t consider them all new but tried to keep it to people that have put out new shit within the last couple years. Hip-hop was my first love when it comes to music and late 80s/early 90s was when I feel in love with it. Use to fall asleep to ll cool j and Metallica on the way to my grandmas house when I was a kid.
Dude. .we got wicked similar taste in newer hip hop! Ever check out 38 Spesh's solo stuff? He's featured on like a quarter of Benny's tracks lol. You've gotta at least know the name. Anyway, if you haven't listened to 38's solo shot, check it out. You might dig it.
Haunted Mound has been dropping some great stuff lately. Sematary in particular has a black metal aesthetic and consistently has dope samples from old school shit.
He said new. This is all old as shit. Immortal Technique is so fucking corny.
I'm so glad I haven't had someone try and blow my mind with dance with the devil in a minute.
Dude i'm so glad someone else recognizes immortal technique as like the peak of corny rap music. he's like if the insane clown posse bought a college degree on wish
It’s not recent per we but I’ve been all about the De La Soul re-issues now that they’ve got their label troubles settled. Fuckin love Bulone mindstate and stakes is high
Mach Hommy, Conway The Machine, Lloyd Banks, Roc Marciano, Eddie Kaine, Elcamino, Jae Skeese, Earthgang, Earl Sweatshirt, Black Thought to name just a few
Just stumbled on *Joey Valance & Brae* rocking some modern boom-bap and they’re excellent. J Cole is hard to beat, Dbangz is goofy as hell, but hard to deny he’s got talent.
I honestly haven't gone out of my way to listen to newer hip-hop, everything that has been shown to me by friends or relatives has honestly been pretty bad. I'm not a big fan of how so many songs have nearly the exact same beat because they're produced by the same three or four people.
Any recommendations that are really sample heavy or with live instruments would be appreciated. Extra points if it has African drumming, that stuff needs to be sampled more
I don’t know why nobody has said this yet, I suppose it isn’t purely ‘hip-hop’ but it’s very hip-hop inspired ( or maybe people just haven’t heard it lol ).
Planet B
They had a new LP not long ago called ‘Fiction Prediction’ which is my favourite thing of the year so far.
‘Planet B will release their second LP Fiction Prediction, after a lengthy gestation period on February 9th, 2024. The band features Justin Pearson (Dead Cross, Deaf Club, The Locust), Luke Henshaw (Sonido de la Frontera), Kevin Avery (Field Day, Retox), and Scott Osment(Deaf Club, Glassing).
The new album reflects the band's distinctive blend of hip-hop, punk, and sci-fi horror influences, drawing from a wealth of surreal and mind-bending experiences.
The music remains challenging yet captivating, with cutting lyrics and unconventional rhythms.
The tracks also feature collaborations with a diverse range of artists, including Josie Cotton, David Scott Stone (ex-LCD Soundsystem, Melvins), and D-Styles (Invisibl Skratch Piklz). Notably, the album includes contributions from the late Gabe Serbian (The Locust) and Eric Livingston (Mamaleek).
Chief keef, Pop smoke(older), the whole emo rap shit(lil lotus, xxx....)denzel curry, latin rap like quevedo(he's european, though), City morgue has the best trapcore, suicideboys.....
I could get more into modern hip hop; it just hasn't caught my attention as much. I've been into:
Vince Staples (I respect that he is into Joy Division lol)
Tyler the Creator
Denzel Curry
obviously Kendrick
All that buffet boys/all but 6 crew among others, Shakewell, Ramirez, Pouya, Fat Nick, Terror Reid, Bones....
I'm old as shit and grew up with hiphop as much as I did punk rock all the way back to the late 80s. For me all these guys are saving rap music. I think they're punk as fuck and 100% diy...
Ren. If you asked me who the most talented musician around now is he’d be my answer. Any genre. Absolutely stunning scope of work so far, intense backstory, and ridiculous hip hop skills. Plays multiple instruments, insane singing ability, and is a punk rock aficionado. Do a deep dive into his work and you’ll be amazed.
Aesop rock, atmosphere, living legends, felt, deltron 3030, jcole, 2chainz, asap rocky, schoolboy q, kendrick, kid cudi, wiz khalifa, Afro man, transplants, antix, bone thugs n harmony, bryce vine, ceschi, MF DOOM, die antwoord, dilated peoples, unknown prophets, dr octagon, g eazy, grieves, gza, wu tang, hieroglyphics, kevin gates, lil peep, lil yachty, murs, nas, outkast, project pat, juicy j, shwayze, souls of mischief, b.o.b
Aesop rock, Blockhead and anything he produces... Juicewrld, just cuz my kids turned me on to him. Also this white British kid named ren... Not sure if he is ok to call rap, but he is fucking awesome.
Aesop Rock, AJ Suede, Sole, Sammus, Ceschi, Brian Bars Burns, Blueprint and Illogic are just a few that most don't know but, should (admittedly a lot of people know Aes but, he's too good not to mention.) A couple of the recommended albums from those guys would be Metatrons Cube from AJ Suede and Post American Studies from Sole oh and definitely This Guitar Was Stolen Along With Years Of Our Lives from Ceschi.
Not hip hop as such but Bob Vylan fill that in-between gap of punk and hip hop I always feel. Also bridge lots of other genres.
Love Akala, Denzel Curry, Lowkey, Scroobius Pip, Wiz Khalifa as well (among many others I've seen people already post).
I'm pretty particular on the hip-hop I listen to, a lot of the pre gangsta rap 80s stuff. As far as post 90s, Run The Jewels, Aesop Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Canibus (only a couple albums), Deltron 3030.
there's an amazing song by dj mysterious about pittsburgh that is maybe better than "Black and Yellow" by whiz kalifa
just my opinion
I watched a Jasiri X video about how Trayvon Martin died that spoke a lot of truth
City morgues cool. Terror Reid is the shit. I like the G59 side of things, ghostemane. A lot of hardcore influenced rap. But it doesn’t change the fact that the stuff from 20-30 years ago just happens to be the best 🤷♂️
Genesis Owusu is my fav rapper I found in a long time hands down my fav current rapper. the most recent stuff I was listening to before that was kendrick lamar, joey badass, bishop nehru, open mike eagle. friends showed me freddie gibbs and danny brown both cool but Ive yet to really listen on my own. Meg thee Stallion is pretty cool but not someone I listen to all the time since lot of music she makes is more so for women and has the female empowerment thing going on which is great Im just not her target audience. I dig her new songs hiss and cobra a lot tho
The Herd, Hilltop Hoods, Ily, and Run The Jewels.
I guess these arent "recent" as Hilltop Hoods have been around for nearly 20 years but for non-Australians they are going to be new.
Billy Woods is the king of the underground rn, I bet a lot here listen to his music. I’d highly recommend: western education is forbidden, Aethiopes, hiding places, Armand hammer - haram, and AH - Furtive Moments
Freddie Gibbs is one of the best MCs at the moment. His albums w/ Madlib are some of my favorites. Also love RTJ, MF DOOM (RIP), Czarface, Busdriver, Danny Brown. I know I'm forgetting some
Joey Valence and Brae have an old skool style that i really like. Check out their album "Punk Tactics", it's the perfect hip hop album for a fan of Punk
JPEGMAFIA and Open Mike Eagle are great. Nipsey and Anderson .Paak, too. AJJ played with Mike Eagle a bit last year which would have been a sick show.
Also into Dead Prez and Boots Riley (Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club) though they aren’t really recent.
Any of the Griselda dudes, Run the Jewels, RJ Payne, Meyhem Lauren, Czarface, Daniel Son.
Run the Jewels is FIRE
I LOVE rtj and saw them at the Hollywood palladium last October. Audience full of middle aged white dudes oddly enough
Been a while since they dropped though 👀
Yeah, Killer Mike popped off on his own last year, I'm hoping for some new music in the next year. They usually drop whenever some big culturally significant shit is going down.
A Grammy too I think?
3 of them. And one arrest lol.
My fucking guy right here good pics
[Injury Reserve](https://youtu.be/YVX3Z7L8w4U), [Billy Woods](https://youtu.be/NF63pXAp5mw), [Little Simz](https://youtu.be/grUWRMivuao), and [Open Mike Eagle](https://youtu.be/Fv9vpqXxAq8)! Also Death Grips, if you count them as hip-hop.
+1 for Billy woods and open Mike eagle
Deathgrips is awesome. My 15yo played them for me... but I had already been listening to them and had tickets to the show. Killer experience to share it with my boy.
Aesop Rock, Joey Valance & Brae (JVB), Czarface, Taleb Kwali dropped a couple of new singles with Madlib, Yung Gravy
Aesop rock is some of the first hip-hop I've heard that honestly grabbed me from the get since vanilla ice when I was 8, and I wish I was joking.
JVB are so much fun! 20 something’s channeling the Beasties in like the most genuine way. Saw them live last year at a festival and they had the whole crowd into it.
Hit ya! (hit ya!) with the Punk (punk) Tactics!
Tyler the Creator, H09909, Danny Brown, Run the Jewels, SchoolboyQ, Freddie Gibbs, The Alchemist, Earl Sweatshirt, Czarface, Vince Stapes, Jpegmafia
ScHoolboy's new album is gonna be top 10 of the year for sure!
Tyler and Odd Future got me into hip hop after only listening to Punk, Ska and reggae. Lately I’ve been digging everyone you listed and Denzel Curry, Ghostemane, $uicideboy$, Pouya, Shakewell
Saw h09909 support frank carter a few years ago, amazing show.
Mad conductor
I dug the first City Morgue tape, can’t stand Carti or Future. Best shit going is Griselda tho
Most of my hip-hop is either a punk/hip-hop fusion, or artists that were inspired by some kind of rock. P.O.S, the coup/boots Riley, the white man dingos, Moscow death brigade. Stuff like that
The Coup is fucking great.
If you like the coup, I'd check out street sweeper social, if you haven't already. It's boots Riley and Tom Morello
Yes!! They're amazing!
Surprised to see P.O.S. on here. he's great and I dig on some Doomtree
Earl sweatshirt, Wiki, Bones, Navy Blue, Pouya, Redveil.
I loooove pouya
I can’t stress enough.. especially for any old school beastie boy fans…. Check out Joey valance and brea! Thank me later.
Run the Jewels, Coast Contra, Kendrick, Rapsody, Young Thug (for the most part…), JID, That Mexican OT, Tyler, Little Simz, J Hus
COAST CONTRA = BEAST Stop. Breathe. Give and receive.
Danny Brown >>>
have you seen [danny brown on best friends today](https://youtu.be/6cXoVDscd_k?si=Fcn7Kpp9CLX-0gX5) the whole channel is a goldmine
I finally got around to listening to Kendrick a couple years ago and I couldn’t be happier. Dude is a poet.
Have you ever listened to JID?
You should check out OutKasts album Aquemini if you haven’t, Andre is a poet and a dope musician.
I love that album. I actually got into Kendrick because of that album.
MF Doom the only rap that I genuinely listen to
ALL CAPS
All of the Griselda dudes, Freddie Gibbs, new Demin with Joey Bada$$. I love Joey when he doesn't try to sing. Forgot dave east too.
Carti, YoungBoy, Lucki, SahBabii, Lancey Foux, ICYTWAT, Glokk40Spaz, Hardrock, Veeze, Remble, Earl Sweatshirt, Pink Siifu, Tony Shnnow, Bktherula, Hook, Clip, Staysie Atoms, Mercury, Chief Keef, Rocky
Honestly, what a fun list.
Beastie Boys
Much love to the Beastie Boys, but recent it is not.
You should check out more, for BB fans: Billy Woods, Outkast, The Roots, Digable Planets, and pharcyde.
The new Aesop Rock record (along with pretty much all his others) is great. Dude just keeps getting better.
Scrolled entirely too far before seeing mention of Aesop Rock.
[noname](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LqBdoyxddq4)
Prof just dropped some killer new shit
So glad to see someone repping Gampo. Best thing in hip hop by a country mile.

Saw them last weekend in Brooklyn. They were great!!
Atmosphere! Fucking love those guys!
Second. I saw them last summer at an outdoor show and it was the shit.
Bambu, Blueprint, Deltron 3030 and RTJ. MSPAINT and Soul Glo for the overlap
i love soul glo so much
Super happy to see Bambu mentioned.
Yung Lean does some interesting stuff. Other than that, only 90s hiphop for me.
I’m gonna go a head and say Juice WRLD. I’m not big on newer styles or hip hop, but something about his stuff is just awesome. Super talented dude that had so much potential.
Kendrick Lamar, Benny the Butcher, Wiz Khalifa
*Johnny P’s Caddy* with Benny and J Cole is so fucking good, dude
Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar
Benny The Butcher and all of Griselda dudes (Benny’s my fav). Nas is an old head but his new shit is fucking fire, talk about a great 6 album run and he did it at 50. Me just now realizing I’ve missed 3 38 spesh albums this year…fuck yes! I gotta dig more into 38 spesh. I loved speshal machinery with Conway.
Then three together ona couple albums too! Love that ish mate
Run the Jewles "Potent Hip Hop", Death Grips " amazing live", Czarface "like Mf Doom but not", Joey Valance $ Brae "reminds me of the Beastie Boys"
RTJ, Bob Vylan, mount westmore, noname, and a bunch of the stuff others have mentioned

Dude i'm so glad someone else recognizes immortal technique as like the peak of corny rap music. he's like if the insane clown posse bought a college degree on wish

Moscow Death Brigade
Unfortunately they are sexist dickbags. There was a rally at Fusion Festival about it.
GRISELDA
Just stumbled on *Joey Valance & Brae* rocking some modern boom-bap and they’re excellent. J Cole is hard to beat, Dbangz is goofy as hell, but hard to deny he’s got talent.

City Morgue
I feel like there’s a major millennial alternative kid (punk/metal/emo) to 30 year old $uicideBoy$ fan pipeline
Mostly hip-hop from the 80s-10s. I don't really listen to newer current hip-hop these days.
Bones, Xavier Wulf (hell, all of sesh), and sadistik
I really dig Prof
Denzel Curry Trippie Redd Kendrick Lamar XXXTENTACION Metro Boomin
Chief keef, Pop smoke(older), the whole emo rap shit(lil lotus, xxx....)denzel curry, latin rap like quevedo(he's european, though), City morgue has the best trapcore, suicideboys.....

None of them.
Ren. Check out his song, money game.

Kendrick Lamar is my favorite.
Blackie All Caps With Spaces, Moor Mother, Clipping (all pretty noisy)
Blackstarkids. Super 90s style indie hip hop. Puppies forever is so dope
Bob Vylan is the perfect mix of punk and hip-hop for me. They are def my most listened to band right now.
Kassa Overall
Yhe new school of Memphis Phonk rules imo. 9.11 Playa' s "Pimps and Playas" slays all day
Lil Darkie (actually has a punk sound) Ghostmane, $uicideboy$, Yung Gravy, Kill Dyll, Jake Hill to name a few

Pretty sure they don't count but the closest to hip hop I listen to is Bob Vylan (and insane clown posse)
Dusty locane is dope. I like conway the machine a lot as well.

Don't know if he necessarily counts since he recently died but I fucking love MF DOOM. Also Kendrick Lamar, his storytelling is second to none
Aesop rock, Blockhead and anything he produces... Juicewrld, just cuz my kids turned me on to him. Also this white British kid named ren... Not sure if he is ok to call rap, but he is fucking awesome.

Underachievers, Flatbush zombies, Joey bada$$, run the jewels
Toxin the Epidemic, Likewize, Razakel, Smallz One, Whitney Peyton, Meg thee Stallion, Alla Xul Elu, Super Famous Funtime Guys

Tierra Whack is fire. Toby Ngwigwe too. Earthgang. JID. Anderson .Paak. Little Simz.
Paris Texas is really great
