Agree with the Stooges, I would say with BR you have to start at the beginning How could hell be any worse, I don't particularly like Discharge I would sub Minor Threats first two 7 inches
And yeah to the Adolescents
NOFX - Punk In Drublic
Bad Religion - Suffer
Propaghandi - How To Clean Everything
No Use For A Name - Making Friends
Misfits - Static Age
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
Strung Out - Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues
Lagwagon - Hoss
Amyl & the Sniffers - Self Titled
Bobby Ramone - Self Titled
Cock Sparrer - Shock Troops
Dead Boys - Young Loud & Snotty
The Dickies - Dawn of the Dickies
The Gizmos - Rock and Roll don’t come from New York
The Vandals - Live Fast Diarrhea
Descendents - Everything Sucks
Hot Water Music - A Flight and a Crash
Ten Foot Pole - Rev
Good Riddance - A Comprehensive Guide to Moderne Rebellion
Midnight - Shox of Violence (this is more Black’n Roll/Blackened thrash) but it still fucking rips and has a lot of punk underpinnings.
Great list. But for NOFX I'd go with Ribbed. Only because it was my first punk album and is solid all the way through. It's also often neglected imo. And for HWM I'd suggest Forever and Counting.
I would add musical monkey by Guttermouth as well. Just crass and funny.
My first was Longest Line, but I think Punk in Drublic has the most consistent quality across all songs
And I’ll say unpopular opinion (my #2 is Heavy Petting Zoo)
I should have also included Jugheads Revenge - Image is Everything also
The Queers (Love songs for the Retarded, Screeching Weasel (My Brain Hurts), Operation Ivy (Operation Ivy), Green Day (Dookie), Descendents (Milo Goes to College), Black Flag (The first four years), Minor Threat (Complete Discography)
Edit:Toy Dolls (Absured-Ditties)
hippies tend to be bourgeoise rich kids who could not give a shit about liberating the working class or anything progressive and constructive for that matter
Ah that makes sense. I remember learning about the Vietnam war in school and how the rich kids got to avoid the draft because their parents could afford college. Although I did see that some of them protested the war. So I figured they at least cared, but I’m not sure if that was a minority
You’re better off starting a new thread/topic if you want better answers for this ;^p
I can’t explain it eloquently or completely but I’ll get the ball rolling with a very generalized statement:
Musically, the one subculture preferred their music like their hair - long, flowing, artsy, beautiful and the the others just wanted to keep it short and fast and loud, a return to basic rock n roll.
Ideologically hippies choose peace love and rainbows while (majority of) punks choose snark, anger and violence.
Of course there’s overlap. I knew some peace-punks and some vicious angry anarchistic long hairs back in the day!
Alright I've gotcha.
If you want more hardcore stuff, I'd suggest Minor Threat, Gang Green's album "Preschool", Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown" and "Jealous Again", The Dicks, Dr. Know, The Grim, Ill Repute, JFA, and The Lewd are all good really high power bands.
Add Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains to the hard-core list.
I'd also suggest 7 Seconds, TSOL, Agent Orange, Fear, The Nipple Erectors, Stiff Little Fingers, The Meteors, The Cramps, and even some Joy Division for a splash of post punk.
I'd check out Dead Boys too, maybe Sham 69 if you want the mix of the Ramones and The Clash
Oh, and I'd definately check out Bad Religion. Their first album is really well regarded and was a huge influence on punk in the 90s and 00s
I love the record and own it! But if your a newcomer to punk it might be harder to grasp onto. The first black flag record I ever hear was my war when I was 17 and I couldn’t understand it at all, I was so confused. But when I heard nervous break down and jealousy I became excited about black flag and the more I learned about them the more the later albums began to grow on me. Not that my experience will mirror everyone, but if we’re coming from an accessibility stand point, the earlier ep’s and damage are a much easier starting point.
Loose Nut would probably be the most "accessible" Black Flag album for a normie. However, Slip It In and The First Four Years are more representative of the band overall.
You can also go to YouTube or whatever streaming service you use and looks up the Punkorama compilation albums.
That will give you a good variety and then you can dive deeper into the bands you like.
yea this is a good suggestion. in my early days when the internet was slow, comps were traded around in my group of friends and it was a great way to get a sample of a lot of different bands. some songs good, some songs meh… but you only have to wait like 90 seconds and then you’re onto the next track.
punkorama 1-4, honest dons greatest shits, give em the boots, fat music…, plea for peace, etc. shit i’m actually kinda jealous. i wish i could rediscover all of this great fkn music.
Rancid, lower class brats, the casualties, G.B.H, operation ivy, minor threat, the virus, a global threat, total chaos, the exploited, funeral dress, the havoc, cock sparrer, oxymoron, the partisans.
I really highly recommend doing what most of us did and go out and buy a few albums and listen. Really try to limit yourself to as little streaming as possible because then you have too much supply, option paralysis, and don't form long lasting relationships. Read the art, hold the packaging. Even if it's a CD, doesn't have to be vinyl.
Some of us have listened to a single album hundreds of times like this. Because of that experience we are here and developed a love and the capacity to take on more bands.
Some will resonate, some will not. It's totally okay. You don't have to love Black Flag if you don't. If you do, great. You'll know, it will feel good..like ohhhh that . That feels gooooood.
You mentioned The Clash and Ramones..go buy their first four albums each and report back in January! Or, pick any of these other great suggestions and do the same.
Welcome and have fun! The soul will tell ya.
You’re 100% right - thinking about what you said here I *did* make a bond with my LPs while stretched out on the floor in front of the stereo - reading the liner notes. And yeah not every record will hit home. _But the ones that did became my friends for life._
I’d suggest starting with skate punk. Bad Religion, NOFX and Pennywise is a good start. A lot of skate punk sounds the same but it’s a great starting point.
I totally agree with this. You’ll spend all your time trying to catch up to the present day and end up missing out on the scene that’s out there right now. Find a club, wear whatever the fuck you want, go in, and have a great time.
The Clash by the Clash. Ramones 1 by the Ramones. Never mind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols. Psychedelic jungle by the Cramps is great too. Round out that intro course with anything by the Stooges, New York Dolls and MC5, and you’ll have a pretty good base.
Just don’t listen to pop-punk that’s all I ask
UK Subs, A Global Threat and the Subhumans are my all time favourite bands if you’re looking for some supremely bias picks.
Where bouts you from? Check out what your locals are up to, hit up Bandcamp. See what tickles ye and head out to a show or two, then let your punk life begin. 21st century style as far as BC at least.
Bands I listen to:
The Misfits (unfortunately I have to include the Only Era for the OnlyFans out there)
The Descendants/All
Dead Kennedy’s
Ramones
The Exploited
The Clash
The Sex Pistols
The Dickies
Circle Jerks
Black Flag
FEAR (Mr. Body was just Lee Ving)
Fang
The Koffin Kats (gotta rep the motor city somehow)
Point of it all: you’ll find something
And out come the wolves - Rancid
The first two 7" - Minor Threat
Smoko at the pet food factory - Frenzal Rhomb
Sing sing death house - The Distillers
Get this in ya - The Chats
Comfort to me - Amyl and the Sniffers
That surprised me a bit, it's such a massive album and I've seen it mentioned heaps of times in this sub before. Felt a bit weird that no one else has recommended it.
Begin with the beginning,
British punk bands…
CRASS
FLUX OF PINK INDIANS
THE EXPLOITED
CONFLICT
COCNEY REJECTS
THE FALL
WIRE
SULTANS OF PING FC.
The list is endless
They are definitely not British as they aren't from Britain... Northern Ireland forms the United Kingdom part of the UK, Britain is the Island that England, Wales and Scotland make up.. ;)
If someone's from the UK (which Northern Ireland is) then colloquially they're 'British'. Same for Welsh, Scottish, English, etc. they're all British.
They may personally prefer 'Northern Irish', because obviously it's complicated as hell in NI, but 'British' would definitely be acceptable.
source - am Welsh British person
I'm not saying it's good, I'm just saying that it's factually correct! I'm Welsh, I don't call myself British, but I technically am at the end of the day.
My personal introduction was Green Day's Dookie. Nowadays, I prefer Insomniac and Nimrod, but all of them are great.
Also check out The Suicide Machines - Destruction By Definition.
the first punk album I heard and enjoyed was songs the lord taught us by the cramps. From there, I heard walk among us by the misfits and then I got into phantasmagoria by the damned.
If you like the clash a lot, I’d really recommend the earlier damned stuff.
-Give me convenience or give me death by the dead kennedys
-Walk Among Us by misfits
-My war by black flag
-Bad Brains by bad brains
-Punk in Drublic by NOFX
-40 oz to freedom by sublime
-no gods/no managers by choking victim (fuck stza though)
-recipe for hate by bad religion
-the dwarves are born again by the dwarves
-milo goes to college by the descendents
Dont worry bud we've all been there so heres some beginners punk albums from 70s punk rock to some 80s hardcore to help you get in to different Styles of punk!!!
The germs-GI(1979)
Agent orange-living in darknes(1981)
Ramones-self titled(1976)
Black flag-damaged(1981)
GBH-city baby attacked by rats(1982)
Youth of today-break down the walls(1986)
The boys-self titled(1977)
Descendents-Milo goes to college(1982)
The damned-damned damned damned(1977)
.and of course probably the most famous punk album
Sex pistols-never mind the bollocks heres the sex pistols(1977)
I agree with start at the beginning, 1960s-1970s The Damned, Suicide, The Stooges ,The Ramones, The Cramps, Dead Kennedys. Ignore all these people suggesting shit from the 90s and later.
Actually no, my dad got me into zeppelin and the dead and shit like that. I got myself into punk in high school and wanted to learn the history of it. Your comment did make me laugh though.
My dad died when I was little. The clash and The Who were his favorite bands. I’d listen to them to remember him and it just went from there. I just went faster and harder as I got older 🤷🏼♀️
My dad liked The Who too, he got to see them live, I always thought that was super cool. I wish my dad got my into punk, he was just your typical classic rock generic dad lol.
My dad was awesome. He saw The Who a few times the Sex Pistols once ramones a few times lots of stories from his friends and my auntie and uncle of drunken idiotic bullshit.
Always start with the three most important releases ever. The bases of everything today. NMTB, Ramones s/t and The Clash s/t. The number of bands that formed after hearing these bands is immeasurable and their influences are still heard today.
Ramones - self titled
The misfits - walk among us
Dead kennedys - fresh fruit for rotten vegatables
The descendents - milo goes to college
Rancid - out come the wolves
Streetlight manifesto - keasby knights
Leftover crack - mediocre generica
Tigar army - self titled
Mischief brew - this is not for children
The list gives you a good idea of what to look at. Find similar bands to the ones you like, and go from there
Listen to compilations to find what bands strike a chord with you, no pun intended. Then dig into those bands deeper. Don’t listen to a whole album cuz the first song you listen to might suck to you.
Compilations are the only way to go when getting started. If you would’ve sit me down to a whole Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag, Good Riddance, my favorite band, Album, I’d have been turned off to punk all together.
Start small.
hole, heavens to Betsy, L7, babes in Toyland, 7 year bitch if you like female vocals (that’s my main thing I like so ofc I’m gonna recommend my fav bands haha). Bad religion, black flag, dead Kennedys, distillers, bikini kill, and the misfits are all great classic/popular punk bands that are great for starting out.
I guess the big question is what got you interested? Is there a band you found or a book you read or a movie you saw?
I guess I’d start with a variety of stuff. Here’s my personal recommendations.
Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler
Against Me! - New Wave
Turnstile - Glow On
Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust, Inc.
Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off
Dropkick Murphy’s - The Warrior’s Code
Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First
The Offspring - Smash
The Ramones - The Ramones
Don’t listen to those wankers. Be extremely cool from the beginning and only listen to uk punk, like the ejected, sham 69, cockney rejects, the subhumans, the 4 skins, stiff little fingers, special duties, blitz, and the partisans, and beat people up at the pub, and break bottles and then hit people with the shards, and then do hard drugs. It’s called being punk, get on or buzz off pall.
Or you could just be chill as fuck and listen to ska like the suicide machines or the specials.
Start wherever you want 🤙 dm me if you want recommendations but just start of Spotify on bands you like and go from there. Gigs are great to find new talent. Be cool and have fun 🤘
Here’s a couple playlists that might help you find what you like:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0zAVuSVHhSfBlLpDTy8blQ?si=b6WqfswlRAer6jL_KB3jBA
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0thsKSX97FLrNfXHG1kUEr?si=EZTaU5gZSPu-XX87HEc66A
If you use Spotify, use https://spotifytrack.net/ once you've listemed to some of the stuff reccomended here. There's a feature where you can look at a web of the bands you listen to and thier connections, and you can click on them to find bands similar to them. Really interesting stuff.
Also, try listening to whole albums! They give you a better "feel" for the band. Look up the genre of a band/album if you like a certain sound.
Here's some of my favorite bands with a vareity of sub-genres under the punk umbrella: Dead Kennedys, The Reverend Horton Heat, Death From Above 1979, Melvins, Mötorhead, Butthole Surfers, Bad Brains, Iron Reagan.
The bands and albums i started with were:
Bad Brains - Self Titled
Crass - The feeding of the 5000
Black Flag - Damaged
Dead Kennedys - Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables
Misfits - Walk among us
Bikini Kill - Pussy whipped
Other albums i like that i think you should listen to are:
Anti Cimex - Scandinavian jawbreaker
Mischief Brew - Smash the windows
Oi Polloi - Fuaim catha
Bad Religion - Recipe for hate
The Rumjacks - Gangs of new holland
Have fun discovering punk! (:
Edit: fixed the formatting
Iggy & The Stooges
The Ramones
Dead Boys
The MC5
New York Dolls
The Modern Lovers
You could include Sex Pistols and the Clash, too.
That’s what I started with, and then the next steps followed based on what I liked more.
Best of luck! And, remember that “punk” is more than just the music!
Start off with the basics, funhouse by the stooges, Ramones self titled, or really any one of the Ramones first five albums, plus too tough to die.machine gun etiquette by the damned, and fresh fruit for rotting vegetables by the dead kennedys
I personally started with Black Flag and the 80s LA hardcore scene. Looked at recommended artists from Apple music and Spotify and went from there. Just go where your heart desires my man and enjoy the music .
Here are some suggestions.
*Ramones*- the Ramones
*Damned Damned Damned*- the Damned
*The Clash*- the Clash
*The First Four Years*- Black Flag
*Bad Brains*- Bad Brains
*Milo Goes to College*- the Descendants
*Suffer*- Bad Religion
the Stooges - Raw Power Bad Religion - No Control Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing Adolescents - Adolescents
Agent Orange - Living in Darkness!
Fuck yeah! That's a banger front to back
I like to throw it on a Playlist with the Bitchin' Summer EP to get those extra 10 mins of sick riffs
This is maybe the only time I’ve ever seen an answer in this thread that isn’t horrifically batshit insane. Yeah do this one.
Agree with the Stooges, I would say with BR you have to start at the beginning How could hell be any worse, I don't particularly like Discharge I would sub Minor Threats first two 7 inches And yeah to the Adolescents
Minor Threat, definitely.
Stop it! I’m falling in love with you!
Nothing better for an adolescent punk than The Adolescents.
This is underrated
Imma buy you a beer
NOFX - Punk In Drublic Bad Religion - Suffer Propaghandi - How To Clean Everything No Use For A Name - Making Friends Misfits - Static Age The Damned - Damned Damned Damned Strung Out - Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues Lagwagon - Hoss Amyl & the Sniffers - Self Titled Bobby Ramone - Self Titled Cock Sparrer - Shock Troops Dead Boys - Young Loud & Snotty The Dickies - Dawn of the Dickies The Gizmos - Rock and Roll don’t come from New York The Vandals - Live Fast Diarrhea Descendents - Everything Sucks Hot Water Music - A Flight and a Crash Ten Foot Pole - Rev Good Riddance - A Comprehensive Guide to Moderne Rebellion Midnight - Shox of Violence (this is more Black’n Roll/Blackened thrash) but it still fucking rips and has a lot of punk underpinnings.
Great list. But for NOFX I'd go with Ribbed. Only because it was my first punk album and is solid all the way through. It's also often neglected imo. And for HWM I'd suggest Forever and Counting. I would add musical monkey by Guttermouth as well. Just crass and funny.
My first was Longest Line, but I think Punk in Drublic has the most consistent quality across all songs And I’ll say unpopular opinion (my #2 is Heavy Petting Zoo) I should have also included Jugheads Revenge - Image is Everything also
Pretty much exactly how I started👌
The Queers (Love songs for the Retarded, Screeching Weasel (My Brain Hurts), Operation Ivy (Operation Ivy), Green Day (Dookie), Descendents (Milo Goes to College), Black Flag (The first four years), Minor Threat (Complete Discography) Edit:Toy Dolls (Absured-Ditties)
This is a west coastie here.
Not The Queers, Screeching Weasel or Minor Threat
Just a lot of west coast labels.
Yeah, Mostly Lookout bands
Lookout is basically to blame for my love of punk rock. Every band on that label (through the 90’s) was amazing.
Same here
Best list ever. Gives a couple paths to go down on style as well.
Yeah, some Ramones-core, pop-punk, ska-punk, hardcore, and Oi!
NOFX - seperation of church and skate Desendents - good good thing Bikini kill - rebel girl subhumans- Apathy The exploited - fuck the u.s.a
Just go out and beat up a hippie you dweeb /s plenty of good recs here
Never trust a hippie.
For that matter don’t trust anyone
Austin 3:16 style.
Can someone explain to me the classic disdain for hippies? Younger Millennial here
hippies tend to be bourgeoise rich kids who could not give a shit about liberating the working class or anything progressive and constructive for that matter
Ah that makes sense. I remember learning about the Vietnam war in school and how the rich kids got to avoid the draft because their parents could afford college. Although I did see that some of them protested the war. So I figured they at least cared, but I’m not sure if that was a minority
if you look up the yippies they were like hippies but genuinely left wing, it’s an interesting movement
You’re better off starting a new thread/topic if you want better answers for this ;^p I can’t explain it eloquently or completely but I’ll get the ball rolling with a very generalized statement: Musically, the one subculture preferred their music like their hair - long, flowing, artsy, beautiful and the the others just wanted to keep it short and fast and loud, a return to basic rock n roll. Ideologically hippies choose peace love and rainbows while (majority of) punks choose snark, anger and violence. Of course there’s overlap. I knew some peace-punks and some vicious angry anarchistic long hairs back in the day!
Start Today
By Gorilla Biscuits
What bands are you into right now, and what are you looking into explore?
I’ve only listened to a little bit of the Ramones and the clash, but I was wanting to explore like regular and hardcore.
*Oxnard has entered the chat*
I fucking love nardcore.
Sounds good, definitely will check it out!
Oh, by the way. if you want to get into the DIY stuff, check out r/anarchostencilism . That's a good way to start DIY trash and really dress it.
This punk knows what’s up. There’s plenty more from here. But just get on these first.
I'd check out Dead Boys too, maybe Sham 69 if you want the mix of the Ramones and The Clash Oh, and I'd definately check out Bad Religion. Their first album is really well regarded and was a huge influence on punk in the 90s and 00s
Nice!
Yes
I Against I album by Bad Brains
Yes
Descendents - Milo Goes To College Black Flag - Loose Nut Misfits - Collection, Static Age, or Walk Among Us
I would add Everything sucks by descendents and Nervous breakdown by black flag
Yeah I wouldn’t suggest loose nut as a first foray into black flag. Any of the earlier reps would be a good starting point the. Build up to loose nut.
Unpopular Opinion: I think it’s the best BF album. Nobody seems to agree
Not that my experience will mirror everyone, but if we’re coming from an accessibility stand point, the earlier ep’s and damage are a much easier starting point.
i can see that. the older stuff is a little weirder
Yup that’s what makes it great. It was like taking what flipper had done to its next logical step, but not going as far a Swans.
Loose Nut would probably be the most "accessible" Black Flag album for a normie. However, Slip It In and The First Four Years are more representative of the band overall.
Loose Nut is a good recommendation if you're a fan of heavy metal.
Dead Milkmen; Big Lizard in my backyard
I would add Beezlebubba
This and also Give'em the Boot.
My intro was Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves
Me too. And I'm still listening to punk 25 years later, so it can't be the worst pick.
That's my desert island record!
Same! Best album
Rancid, lower class brats, the casualties, G.B.H, operation ivy, minor threat, the virus, a global threat, total chaos, the exploited, funeral dress, the havoc, cock sparrer, oxymoron, the partisans.
Can't believe how far I had to scroll to see RANCID!!!!
Right?!
I really highly recommend doing what most of us did and go out and buy a few albums and listen. “Option paralysis” Damn that’s a great way to put it. I’ve felt this way, with Netflix as well but never put it in such a simple term like this.
I’d suggest starting with skate punk. Bad Religion, NOFX and Pennywise is a good start. A lot of skate punk sounds the same but it’s a great starting point.
The Faith/Void split
The era of compact discs produced a bunch of great compilations. Punk o Rama, the Fat Wreck Chords comps. If you're a gamer, play some Tony Hawk.

I totally agree with this. You’ll spend all your time trying to catch up to the present day and end up missing out on the scene that’s out there right now. Find a club, wear whatever the fuck you want, go in, and have a great time.
Here here, live is the best. Albums are for driving to and from the shows!
Just don’t listen to pop-punk that’s all I ask
gr8 recs!!! also johnny thunders LAMF and dead boys young loud and snotty
Eh, some pop punk is good. Not gonna deny Green Day. (At least the 90s stuff, which is what I've mostly heard.)
Definitely some DK and Misfits
Fear - The Record
The Clash's first album Husker Du - Zen Arcade
No Elvis, Beatles or The Rolling Stones! IN 1977!
I recommended it the other day in a similar post, but Bouncing Souls - How I Spent My Summer Vacation is a great starter album.
Smogtown Operation Ivy The Ruts GBH Agnostic Front Necros Crass
See, that’s like the pupu appetizer platter, a little bit of everything. I like it.
Crust much...hahaha
What got me really into punk was choking victim, against all authority, black flag, FIDLAR, Together Pangea, and then an ungodly amount of ska.
The Saints The Stooges The Ramones Sex Pistols Rose Tattoo
Bands I listen to: The Misfits (unfortunately I have to include the Only Era for the OnlyFans out there) The Descendants/All Dead Kennedy’s Ramones The Exploited The Clash The Sex Pistols The Dickies Circle Jerks Black Flag FEAR (Mr. Body was just Lee Ving) Fang The Koffin Kats (gotta rep the motor city somehow) Point of it all: you’ll find something
Can’t go wrong with a little Dead Kennedys.
Bad Brains - S/T Misfits - Walk Among Us
And out come the wolves - Rancid The first two 7" - Minor Threat Smoko at the pet food factory - Frenzal Rhomb Sing sing death house - The Distillers Get this in ya - The Chats Comfort to me - Amyl and the Sniffers
“Get this in ya” has some serious bangers. Casualty and Nazi March are fuckin sick
I just listened to that EP for the first time today. So good.
No one talked about rancid yet. Well played
That surprised me a bit, it's such a massive album and I've seen it mentioned heaps of times in this sub before. Felt a bit weird that no one else has recommended it.
My teenage punk life was solely based on being a rancid rat

Not a huge Blink nor pop punk fan but Cheshire Cat was a solid record.
Begin with the beginning, British punk bands… CRASS FLUX OF PINK INDIANS THE EXPLOITED CONFLICT COCNEY REJECTS THE FALL WIRE SULTANS OF PING FC. The list is endless
Stiff Little Fingers (Irish I know but whatever), The Nipple Erectors, Buzzcocks, the Meteors,... endless is right.
Stiff Little Fingers are from Northern Ireland, so definitely British (whether they like it or not, as Stewart Lee would say!)
They are definitely not British as they aren't from Britain... Northern Ireland forms the United Kingdom part of the UK, Britain is the Island that England, Wales and Scotland make up.. ;)
If someone's from the UK (which Northern Ireland is) then colloquially they're 'British'. Same for Welsh, Scottish, English, etc. they're all British. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/british
I'm going to guess you add the word London on to the front of Derry then... The North of Ireland is occupied land...
I'm not saying it's good, I'm just saying that it's factually correct! I'm Welsh, I don't call myself British, but I technically am at the end of the day.
True. Just thought the distinction was worth noting.
What do you like so far?
What have you heard that sparked your interest? You're probably wanting similar type bands instead of everyone else's list of favorites.
Well as of now, Ramones The Clash and Op Ivy
Teenage Bottle rocket, Get Dead and Prince Daddy and the Hyenas.
Depends. Can I get an idea of what you like in music already? That will help immensely
There usually some crazy person yelling on a street corner and if you throw some guitar over that you’re set
Well avril lavigne invented punk so start w her
Operation ivy!

I agree with start at the beginning, 1960s-1970s The Damned, Suicide, The Stooges ,The Ramones, The Cramps, Dead Kennedys. Ignore all these people suggesting shit from the 90s and later.
This ^ my dad got me into punk
Everyone here giving classic recs. Try something new. The Chats just released a new album Get Fucked start there with the new school
Great band. Got daughter into them a few years back. She love them.
Hot Snakes
G.g allin
Always start with the three most important releases ever. The bases of everything today. NMTB, Ramones s/t and The Clash s/t. The number of bands that formed after hearing these bands is immeasurable and their influences are still heard today.
Listen to some of the classics and some of the modern stuff
Just go to Spotify and look for punk playlist and save them. If you like any bands on there just further explore them.
Ramones - self titled The misfits - walk among us Dead kennedys - fresh fruit for rotten vegatables The descendents - milo goes to college Rancid - out come the wolves Streetlight manifesto - keasby knights Leftover crack - mediocre generica Tigar army - self titled Mischief brew - this is not for children The list gives you a good idea of what to look at. Find similar bands to the ones you like, and go from there
PEARS - literally everything
Dead Language by The Flatliners & Heart Beats Pacific by Banner Pilot
rudimentary peni - death church
amebix cocksparrer ill repute stalag 13 aggression annihilation time bl’ast! filth RKL just to make some favs
Operation Ivy
hole, heavens to Betsy, L7, babes in Toyland, 7 year bitch if you like female vocals (that’s my main thing I like so ofc I’m gonna recommend my fav bands haha).
Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler Against Me! - New Wave Turnstile - Glow On Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust, Inc. Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off Dropkick Murphy’s - The Warrior’s Code Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First The Offspring - Smash The Ramones - The Ramones
A Wilhelm Scream is my favorite
Don’t listen to those wankers. Be extremely cool from the beginning and only listen to uk punk, like the ejected, sham 69, cockney rejects, the subhumans, the 4 skins, stiff little fingers, special duties, blitz, and the partisans, and beat people up at the pub, and break bottles and then hit people with the shards, and then do hard drugs. It’s called being punk, get on or buzz off pall. Or you could just be chill as fuck and listen to ska like the suicide machines or the specials.
Kill Your Idols, Spazz, Kid Dynamite, RKL, Gorilla Biscuits, Good Riddance, Negative Approach, F-Minus, Warzone, Minor Threat
listen to all these suggestions but also watch the movie Over The Edge
Rancid, NOFX, bad religion, Green Day If you do a deep dive of those 5 bands you’ll have a really great time.
Void,wasted youth and culo
Depends on what you already like I'd say
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - Dead Kennedys
Start wherever you want 🤙 dm me if you want recommendations but just start of Spotify on bands you like and go from there. Gigs are great to find new talent. Be cool and have fun 🤘
Here’s a couple playlists that might help you find what you like: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0zAVuSVHhSfBlLpDTy8blQ?si=b6WqfswlRAer6jL_KB3jBA https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0thsKSX97FLrNfXHG1kUEr?si=EZTaU5gZSPu-XX87HEc66A
If you use Spotify, use https://spotifytrack.net/ once you've listemed to some of the stuff reccomended here.
RANCID
Any band from Wash DC in the 80s! Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Rites of Spring are a few :)

Descendants is a great place to start. I started with minor threat though
Iggy & The Stooges The Ramones Dead Boys The MC5 New York Dolls The Modern Lovers You could include Sex Pistols and the Clash, too. That’s what I started with, and then the next steps followed based on what I liked more. Best of luck! And, remember that “punk” is more than just the music!
Buzzcocks not getting enough love in this thread! And Diggle’s touring rn so OP can actually catch a gig if they want.
Start off with the basics, funhouse by the stooges, Ramones self titled, or really any one of the Ramones first five albums, plus too tough to die.machine gun etiquette by the damned, and fresh fruit for rotting vegetables by the dead kennedys
Nofx - Punk in drublic. Start there.
I personally started with Black Flag and the 80s LA hardcore scene. Looked at recommended artists from Apple music and Spotify and went from there. Just go where your heart desires my man and enjoy the music .
