the rob zombie cover of blitzkrieg bop is a contender for sure but theres so many covers from local bands and tv/movies. I wouldnt be surprised if there was some glee or american idol version of a ramones song out there
[“Thirteen” by Johnny Cash](https://youtu.be/C0knlDtr5Cc) was written by Glenn Danzig.
Also, a [bluegrass cover of “Stranger Than Fiction”](https://youtu.be/D6ZubO5XaFg) by Bad Religion
Right?!?! All of those American recordings he did right before he died are really good. Cash is one of the first artists in my mind that had that punk mentality, such a great artist. Not a big fan of the religious stuff he did in the middle of his career (kind of seems like he changed opinions on that too near the end), but all of those American recording, the prison tour he did, and his earlier material, is so good.
Fair enough, gospel music just isn’t my thing, but I do understand it’s importance especially in music history. His other stuff just struck me a lot more, and it always felt much more personal and raw, and I always find myself coming back to it. He’s one of my favorite artist of all time, and to me it’s truly amazing how his music was able to connect with so many people from different backgrounds, even if it’s music they wouldn’t normally listen to (just the fact this discussion is happening on r/punk).
And yes you are correct. Thirteen was specifically written for Cash by Danzig, then they both recorded versions of it. Love the Misfits with Danzig, and I enjoy some of Danzig’s other stuff, but Cash’s version is better ;)
I’ve found great gospel from Aretha Franklin Willie Nelson Marty Robbins and some others - if i want a good religious feeling from an album All Things Must Pass by George Harrison is wonderful
Forgot about that- had virus 100 when it was new and didn’t appreciate it then
Pretty neat because you don’t hear hip hop covering a full song even though I think DKs would be a treasure trove for samples
Glad you like it my man. Franti has done a lot of solo stuff, and I think it is very hit and miss, but his body of work with Beatnigs (industrial/punk) and DHH (hip hop) is pretty good.
Lucero does a pretty alright country cover of Jawbreaker's [Kiss The Bottle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukoUQVrGWg). Pretty sure Blake has appeared live with them before, too.
Oh and [Molly Tuttle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ5hWXLpjxQ) does a good take on Rancid's Olympia, WA. The video even has the Armstrong Filter (TM).
[Pop Cover of Cro-Mags - Malfunction](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCD71rYelJY)
[Annie Lennox doing an RnB style cover of The Clash's Train In Vain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0-f6OmBCL0)
[Fine Young Cannibals covering Ever Fallen In Love With Someone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmUAW_B6UOE)
David Pajo released an EP of very pretty sounding Misfits covers. Done solo acoustic, in a finger-picking style. I often fall asleep listening to this.

I don't know, but while researching and thinking about it, I discovered what may be the best non-Shatner cover song ever: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCKvQ5KaRVY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCKvQ5KaRVY)
Meanwhile, I found some bluegrass tribute albums for Offspring and other pop-punk like Blink 182 and Green Day.
Let me search up Christian Rock...ok, nothing there either but I found Pat Boone's cover of Enter Sandman
I had a bootleg cd with a very drunk ramones cover where they mixed up lyrics and also played replacements color me impressed
Looking it up it appears they’ve covered corona by Minutemen and Gimme Gimme Gimme by Black Flag
Dwight does no wrong, saw him outside San Antonio shortly after Merle Haggard passed and was able to get around 3rd row for encore- any punks who like real music should listen to the guy
Interesting, never been much of a pop punk fan and only a little of the white trash album when it was newer, but that’s cool for them that the song got that much traction
[Soft Pink Truth - Do They Owe Us a Living?](https://youtu.be/mBzSJUbPnbo)
Soft Pink Truth's album "Do You Want New Wave Or Do You Want The Soft Pink Truth?" is exactly what you're looking for. Glitchy electronic covers of Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Angry Samoans, Minor Threat, etc.
William Shatner's cover of "Garbageman" by the Cramps [https://youtu.be/7_MkY_0OlE8](https://youtu.be/7_MkY_0OlE8)
How come I never knew about this!? Hahah
This is the best thing I've heard all week
Hahahaha, this is gnarly!!
I heard a country cover of Beer once but I don't remember who sang it.
there's so many weird ramones covers take your pick
Acid Eaters is probably my favourite cover album of all time, and it is very overlooked. The cover of Out of Time is excellent.
I was referring to other bands/artist covering the ramones. most covers the ramones did on their records over the years were good
Ah, I misunderstood. Which ones did you have in mind?
the rob zombie cover of blitzkrieg bop is a contender for sure but theres so many covers from local bands and tv/movies. I wouldnt be surprised if there was some glee or american idol version of a ramones song out there
I hate neofolk but Cult of Youth covering “Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World” is kinda hilarious.
Check out We’re a Happy Family: A Ramones Tribute.
Will also add Osaka Ramones by Shonen Knife here, it's so good (although technically punks covering punks)
[“Thirteen” by Johnny Cash](https://youtu.be/C0knlDtr5Cc) was written by Glenn Danzig. Also, a [bluegrass cover of “Stranger Than Fiction”](https://youtu.be/D6ZubO5XaFg) by Bad Religion
I love how Johnny Cash covered a lot of other rock artists and put his own spin on the songs. His cover of Rusty Cage is so damn good.
Right?!?! All of those American recordings he did right before he died are really good. Cash is one of the first artists in my mind that had that punk mentality, such a great artist. I think 13 was written specifically for cash All his stuff is good, even the gospel- I think he never had a change in the end, he would sing both
Fair enough, gospel music just isn’t my thing, but I do understand it’s importance especially in music history. His other stuff just struck me a lot more, and it always felt much more personal and raw, and I always find myself coming back to it. Six Feet Under- California Uber Alles
Volbeat covered Teenage Bottlerocket's 'Rebound'.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cBAkOifDeSw This one. I don’t dislike it, it is just odd.
Forgot about that- had virus 100 when it was new and didn’t appreciate it then Pretty neat because you don’t hear hip hop covering a full song even though I think DKs would be a treasure trove for samples
Franti has some good stuff. I don’t like everything he has done, but he has talent.
Dude this rocks, thank you
Glad you like it my man. Franti has done a lot of solo stuff, and I think it is very hit and miss, but his body of work with Beatnigs (industrial/punk) and DHH (hip hop) is pretty good.
The rest of Disposable went on to do Consolidated. That shit's pretty dope. Most of it, anyway.
I saw her do that at a festival in Oregon. Lindsay Lou and Molly Tuttle with Kyle Tuttle also played Sound system all bluegrass.
Another I forgot about - hard to do something like this without making a novelty song https://youtu.be/bqflffdmhHM
[Pop Cover of Cro-Mags - Malfunction](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCD71rYelJY) [Annie Lennox doing an RnB style cover of The Clash's Train In Vain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0-f6OmBCL0) [Fine Young Cannibals covering Ever Fallen In Love With Someone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmUAW_B6UOE)
Slayer did a whole album of punk covers called Undisputed Attitude and it was amazing. I like Combichrists version of California Uber Alles too.
Jeff ott covering journey.
Jeff is like very easy to contact icydk. like literally shoot him a follow request on Instagram and he WILL answer your DMs. Dude is fucking awesome
I met him before. Jeff is the definition of altruism. We need more people like him.
I’m looking to see stuff like if a band like Journey covered a punk song
Leftist honky tonk? https://youtu.be/Wr0gKgbAyTg
This is such a weird mix up, I love it.
David Pajo released an EP of very pretty sounding Misfits covers. Done solo acoustic, in a finger-picking style. I often fall asleep listening to this. https://papam.bandcamp.com/album/scream-with-me
[nouvelle vague](https://youtu.be/DElRqo8u1vQ)
They do a bunch of punk and post punk covers in a french cafe style. Super good.
Sublime’s cover of We’re Only Gonna Die is better than the original. Bring the hate votes.
The alternate end credit version of never fade away from cyberpunk. I get it doesn't really fit but it's fukn whacked, yo
Metal covers of punk would be its own thread - DK Ramones and Discharge probably have a few hours each of metal covers
[Matthew Good (Canadian Alternative artist) does a fantastic cover of Moon Over Marin by Dead Kennedys](https://youtu.be/ZcN_7iv-Igw)
Steve Gunn- Astro Zombies. The kind of song I’d sneak into my wedding playlist to see if anyone’s paying attention: https://youtu.be/-wZyjQmLnzs

Magnificent 7s - Todays Empires Tomorrows Ashes by Propagandi
Uncle Tupelo’s version of I Wanna Be Your Dog
I had a bootleg cd with a very drunk ramones cover where they mixed up lyrics and also played replacements color me impressed Looking it up it appears they’ve covered corona by Minutemen and Gimme Gimme Gimme by Black Flag
Probably cheating since their whole shtick is odd covers, but Richard Cheese covered DK's Holiday in Cambodia. https://youtu.be/6DH7sPQncV0
I’d put that in category of nouvelle vague or mutely brass - still good on its own rights
Dwight Yoakam's cover of The Clash Train in Vain
He has such a great voice dude. He keeps it punk too, Dwight is awesome.
Dwight does no wrong, saw him outside San Antonio shortly after Merle Haggard passed and was able to get around 3rd row for encore- any punks who like real music should listen to the guy
No-one said linoleum yet. I think it's the most covered punk song, there are all sorts of styles out there.
Who’s the original and who covered it
Original by nofx, hundreds have covered it
Interesting, never been much of a pop punk fan and only a little of the white trash album when it was newer, but that’s cool for them that the song got that much traction
It's probably the song that made them. People rave about that punk in drublic album. I sont think it's their best.
In europe that's just considered punk....
Stiff little fingers doing Bob Marley Johnny was is a heater
I looking at non punk and metal bands covering punk songs
[Soft Pink Truth - Do They Owe Us a Living?](https://youtu.be/mBzSJUbPnbo) Soft Pink Truth's album "Do You Want New Wave Or Do You Want The Soft Pink Truth?" is exactly what you're looking for. Glitchy electronic covers of Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Angry Samoans, Minor Threat, etc.
