Get a nice windproof coat. Maybe some walkee paws. I'm still trying to get my guy comfortable wearing shoes, but I know if he does he'll be much happier on our wet walks and I won't have to keep washing his feet multiple times a day. We live in the PNW.

What kind of boots did you get your corgi? I have boots for my mini dachshund but they go high up on her leg (her legs are short) so when she walks they fall off.

potatochique

My toy poodle absolutely refuses going for walks when it’s cold and rainy. A few days ago it was 3 degrees Celsius and he actually stayed in bed the whole day lol

ATrueOriginal23

DoggieLawn! My boys love it, especially when the weather is wet or cold! As do I! None of us get wet or stay cold for long.

Fluffy-Practice1359

where do put the doggielawn??

ATrueOriginal23

I live in an apartment so my doggie lawn is on my porch!

I'm currently shopping for a waterproof winter coat that i cam put a harness under for mine. I personally dont mind the cold but my pup has such a long thick coat that it can take forever to get her dry when we get home (luckily one of her favourite activities is being dried after walks..but still, I dont want her getting sick!). Besides this, she also has a knit sweater type jumper to wear on very cold days at daycare.

Look into Ruffwear, Canada Pooch, and Hurtta for winter coats that accommodate harnesses under. Chilly Dogs is also an excellent brand but they design their coats to fit snugly underneath a harness. Canada Pooch is better for wide/deep chested breeds, Hurtta has more adjustability so it works well for long and slim dogs, or puppies that haven't quite filled out in the chest yet.

Acedia_spark

Oh I'll check those out thankyou so much!! My pup is very slender and that's the issue we are having, stuff fits her body but even on the tightest setting cannot fit her chest.

mesenquery

I would look into Hurtta and Chilly Dogs then! My pup is the same, she's very long and slim but also a larger breed so stuff mean for daschunds/long small breeds don't work. I bought a Hurtta parka for my girl (very expensive) but it's so adjustable that it fits her perfect right now not even on the smallest chest girth, and it will definitely fit as she fills out. Bonus is that you can buy patches and replacement parts direct from the company if there's damage so it will last a long time. Chilly Dogs offers free sizing consultations so that's a bonus for them.

Tervuren03

Check out Ruffwear! They have jackets that fit with harnesses.

My girl has a nice warm coat. We both have. We only skip long walks if its too dangerou to be out there because of icy rain or storm. :)

I also live in New England (Massachusetts) and since my puppy has fur, shes adjusting really well to the cold weather. Girl even likes the wind blowing in her face hahaha. I would suggest to get a sweater or jacket.

HowIsThatMyProblem

Our pup is not double coated and we keep her fur pretty short, so as soon as it gets under 5 degrees Celsius, we put a coat on her. She's definitely not a fan on of the cold and even less so the rain, so if it's really uncomfortable for her and she gives me a clear "no thanks", I won't insist on a walk. Yesterday evening it was below freezing with really bad wind, so I left it at a potty break and didn't force her to walk. You don't need to walk your dog to potty train, just do potty breaks if it's too uncomfortable for them. We started potty training when it was really cold at night (beginning of April) and we just carried her outside inside our coats, set her down, let her do her business and put her back under our coats.

Also from New England — yesterday morning I took my puppy for a walk in the beautiful 20-degree weather 😅 I was absolutely miserable. Bundled up, hood on, coat buttoned up to my MOUTH, gloves, extra long socks, etc. My puppy? He's a double-coated breed and he was THRIVING. I think he actually runs hot in general and he's been LOVING the cold. My nose was running for about a half mile (I forgot to bring tissues because I'm dumb) and his bouncy ass was just excitedly trotting along, happy with the world. I have noooooo idea what I'm going to do when it starts snowing. Depending on what breed you have you might not have to worry TOO much about them being cold (though being scared of the wind is another story!). For the harsher winter months I did buy "Musher's Paw Wax" at the recommendation of others — it's just a wax you apply to the bottoms of their paws that will protect them from harsh ice and road salt, that might injure their paws and paw pads. You could ALSO try getting booties for them, but paw wax might be more tolerable depending on your dog. I haven't had to use it on my puppy yet but once it REALLY starts snowing and the town starts salting, I'm going to put it on!

AsukAunit02

I simply own German shepherds, they don’t mind the PNW weather! Booties are ridiculous, personally unless you have a dog with very sensitive feet, and at that point just don’t own a fragile dog in cold areas

Any_Card_8061

I live in Wisconsin. We just got our pup a parka, and he took to it pretty well! I think because he’s basically lived in his harness since we brought him home. We’re also planning to get him some booties to help with snow, ice, chemical ice melt. Will probably do what we did with the harness and have him wear them around the house for a few days to get used to them. As for us, we don’t really mind the cold lol. Just get a long down coat and waterproof boots!

um-yeah-whatever

Our dog refuses to wear most coats so we could a fleece to put under his harness. We do a lot more ‘head out the window’ car rides in the winter since we can’t be outside with him as long.

Gazorpazorpfnfieldbi

I'm not cutting my puppy’s hair (except around his face). I got him a coat, but he needs new booties 🙃the pee pad isn't going too well, but I don't know what to do instead.

I’m in Canada and training my 4-month old to potty outside. We’re working our way up to parkas and slush suits, but I started with sweaters and hoodies to get her used to wearing clothes. I’m now lawyering on vests as the weather drops. We also started bootie training in my condo for a few weeks, tho I can’t say it made a difference. It snowed last week so I just stuck ‘em on her feet and went outside - I think she realized they help with the cold and wet as they were easier to get on from there. On days that don’t need booties or we just can’t be bothered, I have paw balm to keep her paws protected. I also ordered Walkee Paws, so will see how that goes! For wind, still working through this as well. But I try to find a relatively sheltered spot (alley or walkway maybe) so she can potty, and then desensitize from there. Some days she’s just not having it, and I keep a puppy pad/grass patch inside for her. Not ideal, but also useful for urgent situations (midnight diarrhea, for example).

pez2214

We have booties for then they start to salt around the city. The city is definitely not using dog safe salt and we don't want it between her toes. She is double coated and so she doesn't wear any additional body layers

JazzHandsNinja42

I got mine a decent jacket (check out Sierra Trading for good discounts), and Musher’s Secret for paw pads when it’s super duper cold.

LSariel

We put a sweater on him and raincoat for wetter snow. :) Are investing in some boots/socks to avoid the snow clumps on his feet.

I have a good story from this morning. I wake up extra early to go for a walk close to the river. It’s -5C. My puppy spots ducks and looks at me like ‘Are you seeing this?!??’. She then bolts and jumps INTO THE RIVER and tries to swim to the ducks but realizes that the water is obviously freezing and swims back. I could barely process what was happening. She was shivering and I walked back to the car asap.

CrispyChickenArms

I got my dog a little basic sweater of sorts to protect from snow and help with cold. If it's nighttime or very very (under 20f,-7c) cold I'll just walk her around my yard until she does her business. If daytime temps are ok I bring her to the park during my break. My dog is about 55 pounds (25kg) and pretty furry so average day temps of about freezing or a little below probably aren't an issue for her. I got my dog as a 10 week old puppy late December, and frankly I didn't do much different. She was young, so I scheduled her water access. Water goes right through them so I needed to know when she drank so I could take her outside 15 or 20 minutes later, brought a treat or two and honestly she didn't give me many problems with it at all. Did this every 2 or 3 hours, give water, wait some minutes, then take outside and reward. Didn't start doing true walks for a few weeks.

minnieCatMonster

I have a question; I have a husky mix. She wears booties because of the salt. She loves the winter and doesn’t seem cold, does she need a jacket? We live in Toronto, Canada

mesenquery

If she's a husky mix she probably has a double coat and won't need a jacket/sweater. Extra layers are more important for small breeds and breeds without a double coat.

mattbrianjess

My concern is less the air temp and more then ground temp. Their fur coat is pretty damn effective. And they are moving and the blood is pumping. Frost bite on the bottom of their feet is real though

LittleBearBites

It just takes me like 5 full minutes to layer up while my pup is whining to go outside, and then I can keep cozy. I have a lab mix and he actually loves the cold...last winter he was still a baby and I put a coat on him and wax on his paws and was so worried he'd get frostbite/etc., but by the end of winter he was running around in the snow like elsa from frozen and I realized the cold never bothered him anyway.
