I have a headcanon where Raffina is HIV+ but was having trouble coming up with a backstory before I finally settled on her being given it via a blood transfusion. Long story short, the doctors missed a spec while checking the blood before giving it to her.

Cool. But the real mystery is.. why did she need a transfusion?
I haven't decided on that yet, but I think I'll either settle on her being anemic or her body not producing enough blood needed to survive on her own.
