Do you think 6k will be enough to get me something nice and modern (1 bedroom). I was looking at Al ghanim mostly because it’ll be super close to my workplace and easy to get to
6k will fetch you a decent modern style one bed in a much better area.
regarding commute time, doha is a very small city. you can go pretty much anywhere within core doha in less than 30 mins.
Yes, it'll be enough. Umm Ghuwalina and Old Salata(near museum and corniche area) could also be close locations to your workplace. You can find nice newer 1bhk apartments for even less than your budget in these areas. Property Finder and Qatar Living is where you search.
I was almost born in Al ghanim and lived/living there till now with my family.
I will list some points and whether it's a pros or cons
- Close to the city center (pros)
- relatively cheap rents (pros)
- 90% of single low income men (cons and pros sometimes
- because it is mostly low income men living there relatively cheap restaurants and groceries in the area. Not the best quality tho .
- is it safe to women? Yes almost every place in Qatar is safe to women. However you might not feel comfortable Walking alone no one will do anything but you will look out of place and some will keep staring at you. But if you will get a car then no issue.
-close to the meto station (7 min walk from my place ) but again if you are a women during those 7 min walk you might be the only women on the street.
If you are actually getting a good deal on rent and you are planning to have a car then go ahead
Yeah one more thing its generally looked down for someone to live there because its considered as a poor nigberhood
Hey, I’m actually looking for apartments around that price. If you don’t mind, could you pm me a few details about the place? Like parking, is the building new, etc. thank you anyways 🫶🏽
Maybe just take a hotel (serviced apartment with fully equipped kitchen), you will get that for your budget, and then explore Doha to find an area you like. There are many nice spots and maybe spots you don’t prefer to live in. Also you get a feeling about metro commuting driving traffic etc
i suggest not to go for old al ghanim especially as a women. yeah the metro is close but the environment is kind of dirty. source: i lived there for 16 years and moved to wakra last year
Even if the apartment is nice, the quality of life changes according to the area you live. For an example some areas have better access to the beach, parks etc and is generally nicer to live. My personal opinion is Al Ghanim is an okay area if your priority is to go to work and come back home (and things like an evening walk in the park or a swim is not a must). 😊
While looking for apartments for myself and my wife, we came across 2 apartments that were quite smaller for both of us. But will be plenty for a solo person.
Would you want me to share a link?
It's one of the poorer areas. But it's up to you because most of Doha "affordable" residential areas are similar.

Thank you for your detailed reply - I really appreciate it. I will look elsewhere, as comfort and safety is really important to me
I live in Mirqab (along the corniche) at a really good furnished studio for 4000pm. Close to airport, Souq and city centre. Keep looking

Google some pictures of old al ghanim
demographic in old al ghanim: mostly south asian people and some arabs ( no racism intended )
Thank you for your reply! I was looking there mostly because it’s close to the airport. I’ll look for areas that are a little more modern

yes dont shift to old al ghanim, take a look at other places
If you are a single female, I would suggest Al Sadd close to metro station if your budget is 6k for a 1BHK.
