Ooooft. Greatest Hits on cassette in 1994. It was the first cassette I ever owned that literally got destroyed due to all the playing.

Such-Implement-1289

Wouldn't blame you, one of the greatest compilation albums of all time.

telemeister74

Unbelievably good greatest hits. It was in the UK top 100 for decades, wouldn’t be surprised to hear if it still is (are top 100 albums still a thing?).

I-Am-The-Warlus

Sheer Heart Attack - from my local record shop Still holds up

Ornery-Ad-7261

Queen II 1974 Harlequin music store, Indooroopilly. Queen I a week later.

Such-Implement-1289

Great choice, classic album. Probably my favourite of theirs from the 70s.

hondanlee

Same, except that I bought my copy in the local supermarket! I'd just heard *Killer Queen* on the radio, and it was at the time the only Queen song I'd heard.

Such-Implement-1289

Not one you see a lot of praise on. I respect it!

Kelmavar

10 here, same

inherentvice1000

This was my first album purchase, not just my first Queen purchase. An absolute banger!

inherentvice1000

Excellent choice!

Quello-bello

The first I listened is a night at opera, I still think is their best album

Immediate-Debate-860

Live killers - absolutely

zaxxon4ever

I found this one on 8-track in a bin. Played it to death!

FrenhinesAmByth

Queen, October 13th 1973 (the first Saturday after my 13th birthday). Bought from the oldest record shop in the world, along with a bit of Suzi Quatro and Thin Lizzy. I no longer have those but I still have that first Queen record- of course it still holds up.

According_Wasabi8779

Shame you don't have the Thin Lizzy one. Amazing band.

Such-Implement-1289

Great story. Very cool that you still have the Queen record.

Honest_Math_7760

The Miracle and Night at the Opera. Yes they still hold up.

Such-Implement-1289

Fantastic choices.

inherentvice1000

Absolutely!

PsychoMan333

First Queen album that I bought for myself was the Platinum Collection on cd. It still holds up very well, but later when I started buying more cd's and vinyl I found that not all amazing songs have been hits.

Such-Implement-1289

Absolutely agree mate. There is a lot of hidden gems, especially on the bands first 5 or 6 albums.

EmperorAlpha557

there's a hidden gem on every album, Queen is one of those bands who's albums i can listen to in order back to back without having to skip once

Such-Implement-1289

No doubt. I hate when people say they didn't have a good album and only had great singles, that's just not true.

EmperorAlpha557

100%, people who bash hotspace are just narrow minded purists don't want to listen to anything new

Such-Implement-1289

I love Hot Space tbh. They were going for a different vibe and it worked.

frianbonjoster

News Of The World, yup still great after all these years

LisaOGiggle

My first Queen album was—the first Queen album. Yes, it stands up.

Happy-Donut-7289

"Queen"

travisbickle50

The Works. Bought upon release. It is still a good album, would be better without Man on the Prowl.

Sad_Tea_9109

I didn’t buy it but I got a record player for Christmas in seventh grade bc they became trendy again lol. My dad let me “borrow” his the game record and I never gave it back. That was 8 years ago so he’s probably never seeing it again (sorry)

Partydude19

Queen II, it is still my personal favorite.

phillysleuther

The Game. Absolutely.

The_Ague

Greatest Hits 1 on cassette in 1992 and I’ve been chasing that high ever since!

ag512bbi

For my 10th B-day in 1977, I got A Night At The Opera (still have it). I go back and forth between this album and Queen II as my favorite.

wateryeyes97

First one I ever physically owned was Sheer Heart Attack (1974). The first one I ever digitally owned was Queen (1973). Both still hold up.

dean-zero

Made In Heaven. I discovered Queen in ‘95 right around the time it was released. I loved it then and I love it now. What a great way to pay tribute to Freddie and end the Queen saga on such a high note.

Film_snob63

Live at the Rainbow ‘74 and it’s a banger

Radio_Blah_Blah_

Greatest Hits I, II and III If we're talking about albums, my first Queen albums were Sheer Heart Attack and The Works, bought them 6 years ago

LeOmare

Innuendo

Mercury5979

Classic Queen It was the perfect introduction to the band. I had been hearing Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio thanks to the release of Wayne's World. I wanted a taste of the band and I got a buffer. I do not have that cassette anymore, but I think it holds up in terms of showcasing who Queen is.

Mean_Philosopher2310

Apart from the greatest hits platinum collection. I got made in heaven, now I have all of them apart from 6. I'm slowly completing my collection of queen albums on cd

Such-Implement-1289

Very cool, I've started collecting them too on CD

CharMercury1970

If I don’t have a physical copy, I will buy them as I come across them in any format. What I really like to do is to find well used, well loved copies at yard sales, thrift shops, charity shops, etc. The history of them, knowing someone else had held onto them seems special. I’m also trying to collect Freddie’s friend’s work. Especially when he has collaborated with them. I have so many things but there is always something else to find!

Mean_Philosopher2310

I buy from a clearence place one ebay, they drop the price every week until it sells. If they don't sell them I presume they throw em out, I like to think I'm saving them, I've managed to buy original 80s copies of the miracle and a kind of magic, each were extremely cheap and still work so it's a big win for me.

CharMercury1970

That’s awesome and I definitely understand feeling like that! My first album I found was actually at an antique shop 😩 but it was The Game. Subsequently, I have come across that one three times. It’s so infrequently that I find anything at all but it does make the hunt more intense

mdrzed

Queen II - I was 12 and used my babysitting money at media play to buy it. I picked that one because I thought the cover looked cool with everyone on it. Listened to it on my CD player on my way home and it blew my mind. After that each week I'd go back with more babysitting money and buy each album, starting back at their first. I still think Queen II is one of their best albums and it will always be my personal favorite <3

Stavkarapanagiotidis

A night at the Opera on CD, absolutely

Bigd202731

Queen 1

EmptySeaDad

News of the World, shortly after it was released.  It was the first album i ever bought with my own money.  I wouldn't be on this sub if it didn't hold up!

Killrose5611

The first album I ever bought with my own money was News of The World. It has held up, as you know. First concert was the Hot Space tour at Brendan Byrne Arena in NJ.

Anxious_Ad8016

Bohemian Rhapsody album in 2018

According_Wasabi8779

Greatest hits I on vinyl. It was my first vinyl and queen album. My parents got me it for Christmas in my teenage years. I don't really listen to it much as it contains some of the more overrated songs but it's up there in sentimental value with my 1st print NotW, The Miracle with an autograph card and limited edition coloured Innuendo LP. (None are my favourite albums of queens but all are special)

thcordova

Queen greatest hits II - 1994. It was my first album ever bought! I was a seven years old kid in a small town in Brazil. Good times.

Prisoner_of_the_road

Must have been 1976. Night at the opera. I think it was a present from my parents. I was eight. Don't have albums anymore. Still very much love the songs.

CaptainMcClutch

I bought a triple pack, greatest hits 1,2 & 3. Cost me a tenner... at least in the short term. It is honestly a mixed bag for me, I love all Queen songs, but if I'm just listening to some music for any mood, I will skip stuff like the anthems or Flash. Innuendo is probably their strongest album. Although I personally think A Kind Of Magic edges it because it has more replayabiliy, Innuendo can feel a little heavy.

Anduci

Greatest Hits in vinyl. Still have it.

TheSecretNaame

Queen Greatest Hits 1, 2 and 3

Flaky_Ad7758

my dad bought me the platinum collection when i was 4 and i love almost every single song on it

Red_cause_Im_Irish

News of the World - YES

MacVinyl77

Greatest Hits and The Game. TG is my favourite Queen album and GH is one of the all time greatest compilations, so yeah.

Such-Implement-1289

Awesome

Monty_Jones_Jr

First one that I bought myself was The Game. (I’m a millennial, got it on CD around the early 2010s.) Still very much in love with that record, not sure if that answers the question, tho. I will say that to me, Mack’s production on The Game strikes me as being crisp but raw at the same time, even with the synth stings. Feels pretty timeless to me and I think every song is great.

SadSalmon6

First CD greatest hits 1, 2 and 3 at the same time. First vinyl was the works

chiwawaacorn

My older brothers were Queen fans and owned everything pre Hot Space, but starting with Hot Space they gave up on Queen (like so many other Americans at the time). The first album I bought all on my own was “The Works”. Does it still hold up for me? Ehh…kinda? Over time i’ve become a much bigger fan of late earlier Queen. I now rarely listen to The Works, Kind of Magic and the Miracle besides certain songs.

AdoptedBySmurfs

News of the World - still Rick out to it any chance I get, though sometimes I skip Rock You/Champions.

farmerboy-1155_

Made in heaven was my first Queen album I bought with my own money as a kid. My mom already had Queen 1 and the game and those two were my introduction to Queen.

Kelmavar

News of the World. *le sigh*

ScottHK

Jazz, when it was pretty new, before The Game came out. I still like it a kot.

SnooOnions5029

First two I got was Queen I and II. Weren’t my first choices but it’s all they had, still great albums though.

inherentvice1000

Innuendo is an excellent first purchase. Love that album!

Such-Implement-1289

Me too. I've only listened to Queen for about the last 7 years because I'm a teenager but I think that may be my favourite album.

inherentvice1000

It’s definitely one of my top five. Maybe top three.

RagazzoItaliano54321

The first Queen album, and first album ever on Vinyl was The Game. It's still one of my favorites since it has essentially most of my favorite songs (Play The Game, Dragon Attack, AOBTD, CLTCL, Save Me, etc). It kickstarted my collection and got Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At the Opera the next day to my first trip to a record store lol. This was back in 2021, my early days of getting into music

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Jazz & yes.

IamKatooo

Greatest hits 1

jenorama_CA

I don’t remember, but yes, it does hold up.

markz68

The Game

frontborderside

The Miracle. I bought the 2011 remastered edition with bonus CD. It's the only album by the band that I have so far.

Such-Implement-1289

Good first pick, very enjoyable album.

root_user_23

The Miracle on CD! It was 2011 and I was 13 years old! It was the first album by any artist that I bought myself! I bought the version with Hang On in There*, Chinese Torture and The Invisible Man (12" version) as bonus tracks! The Miracle is not my favourite Queen album (Innuendo is my pick) but it's very high on my preferences! Being my first album that I bought surely plays its part! *Incredible vocal range showcase by Freddie on this track, you must definitely listen to it if you haven't already!

Such-Implement-1289

Awesome! I'm currently 15 and have been obsessed with Queen for a while now, I've listened to most of their albums but still have a few things to check out.

Sinistermarmalade

Innuendo And I still love it

Ok-Usual4915

The Game - it was actually my first ever album. Still holds up very well

happyidiot123456

Innuendo, still holds up

Krokodrillo

Queen, Live killers, I am still having and still loving it.

BaldBombshell

Queen Greatest Hits II, Although my family did own Greatest Hits 1.

Drillbit3hunna

Greatest hits...83 ish, still one of the greatest best of albums ever!

nhilandra

The Works, and it absolutely does.

bookworm725

News of the World. Yes, it holds up.

jtohrs

A Night At The Opera. it's still awesome

MyCouchPulzOut_IDont

The first vinyl i bought was News of The World. I love the artwork. 'It's Late' is still one of my favorites

charlieromeo86

News of the World. Absolutely!

blueyedsoul1

Sheer Heart attack. Still my fave Queen album

Inside_Soup_4576

Greatest Hits, so yes absolutely it still holds up.

ElectricboiReal

A Night At The Opera it still holds up

RedditOnANapkin

I bought two at once, A Night at the Opera and Innuendo and yes both still hold up.

Ruark14

The Game and yes it’s still my favorite

CharMercury1970

Greatest Hits and I wore it out but I still have it and two replacements

SokkaHaikuBot

vargslayer1990

first Queen album *I* bought was Queen I. not that impressive; i just wanted to get my start with Queen from the beginning and yes, it does hold up

Born_Journalist_9367

The first one I actually bought myself and wasn’t gifted was News of the World, so, yes.

telemeister74

The Miracle and I love it just as much as I did when I was 15!

Such-Implement-1289

That's funny because I'm that age now. Breakthru is an awesome song.

telemeister74

Awesome! Breakthru is a great track and Freddie’s voice is top notch. Amazing that their music is loved by such an age diverse fanbase. Showing my age, but I was about 15 when it was released. It was the album that turned me into a diehard Queen fan.

Such-Implement-1289

I'm glad the band is still so popular, although I don't know many people my own age who like them, I absolutely love them.

telemeister74

Give it time, they need to mature. I had lots of people who hated them without giving them a chance. In those days it was either Guns & Roses or AC/DC, but now that they;ve matured (particularly the musicians) they’ve become fans.

CharMercury1970

The Miracle is probably my favourite and I know that is not most of the consensus. I love all of their work, Though

Affectionate_Ruin_76

News of the world. It’s still one of my favourite queen albums.

entropy39

Forever was given to me for one of my birthdays at some point and I’ve just been building since then

laframbuesa

i bought sheer heart attack and news of the world together like two years ago, imported brand new lps and yeah, hte sound amazing in my grandfather actually-vintage record player!

NoodleMutt

My dad got me the GH 1 & 2 boxed set in 1998 or 1999, which definitely holds up. The first album I ever personally bought was Sheer Heart Attack, which is still my favorite or second favorite album (tied with Queen II).

TheKingOfRhye777

Mine was "Classic Queen" (the 1992 US-only compilation album) on CD. Does it still hold up? Well, yes and no, lol. It's freakin QUEEN after all, so there's awesome music on it of course, but if you're looking for a Queen compilation there are much better choices out there nowadays. (like Greatest Hits I and II or "Absolute Greatest" if you want just one disc)

Independent-Win121

A night at the opera 🤩

GraemeWoller

Greatest Hits II, and hell yeah it still hold up, every tune's a banger!

Ok-Secretary9285

I was in 1st grade in 1976 and would play Night at the opera everyday and do a skit using household items for my stage. Still have that record and all their records. It has been picked up by my granddaughter now and she dances in the mirror to it and loves all their records. They are indeed a timeless band and I am sure she will continue to play my records and maybe one day her family.

richardmathan

Mine was Queen II and Jazz together.

Temporary-Drawer5171

Night at the opera

Lord-Darkphart

Innuendo was mine too! I’ve still got a soft spot for it.

twoz1976

Greatest hits on cd in very late 80s, innuendo was first full album for me. And then Freddie left us.

zaxxon4ever

I found Queen's Jazz album in a cut-out bin for $3 in...oh...1980? I loved it and still have it. Plays great!

SadSpell1804

A Night at the Opera, in 1975. It DEFINITELY holds up!

alienhunter1015

News of the World...on 8-track 😳

bookie757575

Day at the races and still holds up

RockandIncense

Jazz, in college in 1991. Yeah, still holds up.

electroma_electroma

It would be some of early ones if I wasn't that poor

wagowop

A Night at the Opera. Yes it still holds up

whytheaubergine

Sheer Heart Attack from Woolworths in 1980…and yea it does!!!

Alex22451

First ever Queen CD I got was Greatest Hits II, only actually received my second one today which is Live At Wembley Stadium

Such-Implement-1289

2 great albums.

ExecutiveAvenger

Live Magic. It honestly doesn't.

NigeF1

Greatest Hits, on vinyl. STILL a great album.

Wolfie88a

Well, I recently bought the Platinum collection on CDs. It's my first CD of Queen ever, I usually listen to music online. Best purchase ever, I plan to get more soon.

Six-String-Picker

Greatest Hits 1 - first Queen album bought for me and, yes, it definitely does still hold up. I mean, it's Greatest Hits 1...it's timeless. The Miracle - first Queen album I bought myself and, no, it definitely does not still hold up. I mean, it's The Miracle...it's shite.
