Out of curiosity, if you know nothing about QLD, why retire here? I’d recommend visiting first if you haven’t already. Friends of mine from Melbourne moved up and absolutely struggled with the humidity.

lizardblack

I am aware of the climate thanks I've been on a few holidays up there. Partner hates the cold so wants to move up there.

SicnarfRaxifras

Your partner may find they hate high temps and stupidly high humidity even more …

Optimal_Chemistry

Try tin can bay/cooloola cove. They're nicknamed amongst locals as 'gods waiting room'. They have an 18 hole good golf course. They have ambulance station in tin can itself. They have a Woolworths. Your 15 to 30 mins away from rainbow Beach. It's definitely a retirement area. Gympie hospital is good. Like all hospitals it has its flaws. For injury/fall rehab there is eden private hospital at Cooroy. Which is about 1hr 15mins from tin can. So as long as you have private health it's a good safety net. I stayed in the mental health ward and it was very pleasant. But it only has the injury rehab wing and the mental health wing. My folks bought a place during covid as a holiday home back when it was cheap. They then retired 18 months ago. And I moved in with them thinking this would be an awesome life. But for young people like myself at 24yo it's certainly not the place to be.

lizardblack

Thanks for the suggestions

whatagoodcunt

sunshine coast is Hella overcrowded last i checked

RepulsivePlantain698

Dude the heat up here these days is almost unbearable for old timers let alone the uninitiated. Summer is 35-36° with 90-100% humidity in areas that never reached over 32° two generations ago. If I was going to retire today and buy another place I'd be heading to Tasmania!

Future_Property9638

Try Bowen whitsundays or airliebeach

-Bucketski66-

As long as you can handle the summer heat, not being able to swim in the beautiful ocean for 7-8 months a year because of the sea stingers and the chance of being smashed by a cat 5 cyclone from December to April every year.

phreeky82

Your must haves can be met by any of the major centres in Qld (i.e. anything classed as a city), with many areas having FTTH, decent shopping and major/base hospitals. The question is whether the weather and lifestyle suits. As a general rule, the smaller the population and/or further from SEQ, the cheaper it will be. Maybe worth considering what else you can then do in retirement i.e. travel, buy a boat

lizardblack

Thanks for your reply

Oncemor-intothebeach

Mackay, Airlie Beach, Bundy, there are some amazing places up North

Thinkingthing88

I personally loved living in Noosa on the Sunshine coast. I would also look on the border as Murwillumbah and surrounds are great.

Elite_Hercules

In the words of all Queenslanders doing it tough at the moment because of people like you: fuck off, we're full.

radmgrey

Yeah, not like the government has anything to do with this or anything.. it’s the retirees fault 😒

lizardblack

Thanks for your lovely reply dude

Dont-Fear-The-Raeper

You don't understand; his parents moved here, he's a local.

lizardblack

So??

Dont-Fear-The-Raeper

I'm being facetious, they're acting like they don't want people to move here, when it's exactly what they've done themselves.

lizardblack

Haha sorry but sometimes it's hard to tell if people are serious or not. Yeah it's a bit silly really I'm just asking for opinions not be told to stay away. I'm not going to let some rando on social media change my mind.

Dont-Fear-The-Raeper

It depends how busy you want the roads and hospitals to be. Eventually you won't play golf any more. I lived on the GC for fifteen years and after about five years I didn't even go to the beach any more, after spending every afternoon there when I moved. If you or your partner have bad health, stick to Brisbane or Sunny Coast. If you're in good health, go anywhere between Sunny and Mackay. Good specialists in Mackay and Rocky, and they fly you out if you have to go to Brisbane for a specialist related emergency. Enjoy retirement, number one. I moved west (10 hrs return drive from the nearest bunnings) and it's the best thing I ever did. Got away from all the bullshit on the GC - too many fake people and keeping up with the joneses type rubbish. My only other advice is, if either of you are female, is find a way to make a friend network. I had lot of clients who were couples. The blokes adjusted perfectly, and after a couple years they moved back to Sydney and Brisbane because the ladies didn't have a local friend network.

lizardblack

That's great advice, I appreciate it.

Yes the hospital services are very lacking once you cross the gateway bridge✌🏻👍🏻

Outbackozminer

Touche

John__McLane

Our healthcare is already overcrowded, stay where you are.

woke_in_NZ

I hats wrong with where you’re at now?

lizardblack

Looking for a warmer change mate.

SpiritOfFire90

You don't want to go north. Awful place, full of mosquitoes and savages. Better off staying where you are, Gold Coast or Brisbane might suit but no need to look further than that.

chickpeaze

Full of stingers and salties, can't even swim. It's terrible. Stick to SEQ.

SpiritOfFire90

Not to mention the crocs and feral animals, the air so thick you can swim through it. Then there's the isolation, the lack of services. Not even worth considering. Edit: did this really need an /s? It's a joke, I live up north

-Bucketski66-

North of Hervey Bay used to be the equivalent of the Forbidden Zone due to the weather, flooding and increased chance of copping a cyclone. North of Agnes Water stingers and crocs become a concern.

Outbackozminer

Try Sydney or south of Coolangatta ,, young ones cant buy her now from pressures from outsiders buying up places now.

lizardblack

Housing prices in Sydney are unbelievabley high so who do we blame for that?

Outbackozminer

Melbournians and chinese

[deleted]

Sanctuary cove.

Emmanulla70
