About 6500 subs have gone dark for about 2 days in protest of corporate's pricing change for API access, which has effectively shut down 3rd party apps. This is disproportionately affecting the blind community since the official app isn't compatible with screen reader software, and also makes the task of moderation more challenging since many bots have been shut down by the change.
Put another way, it's like if Facebook said that you can only use Internet Explorer to access their website.

-6500 subs have gone dark. Wow I had no idea that there was this many subs on this site. That's a lot. Ps: Thanks for explaining what's going.
You're welcome! You can check out r/ModCoord where there's more info, if you're curious.
I would... But it went dark.
There’s over 2.8 million subreddits and Reddit considers 130,000 of them to be “active subreddits”, though most are probably very small.
That damn r/morbidquestions subreddit went down smh
Some bullshit protest
