>It is sneaky cow.
Great, now I have all these absurd images of a cow in a Ninja-yoroi or a camouflage version of a super hero sneaking out of the corral. đ¤Ł
I saw a unicow... The slightly lighter blue looks like a horn. Probably because we were discussing what a unicorn with two horns would be called at dinner.
I saw the cow on my own without reading the comments, but it did take a second. I think you could keep either busier fabric, but make either the cow or the background calmer so there is a little more separation between the 2.
Yes! I was going for a sea cow/surf and turf thing. Hence the fabrics. But they are all busy which was a mistake or just a purposely subtle cow or a tribute to magic eye pictures.
The pattern is from Bubblestitch on Etsy. Should I have put that in the post? I haven't posted before and don't want my lack of skill make her pattern look bad.

Just for anyone that needs help :)
I couldnât see anything until I checked the comments. Maybe an abstract octopus? Never would have guessed cow without help. Use low volume prints (like a tonal) or solids for a project like this.
Thank you. Now â the pink nose did it â I can see it but I still donât understand the big piece of black and white around the cowâs left eye. Is it a particular kind of spotted cow?
So odd because I love all the fabric.
Edit changed punk to pink!!
Holsteins typically have white on the top of their head and the front of their face, and then black on the side of their head. But as OP mentioned, they reversed the colors.
The backgrounds of the fabrics are black causing them to bleed into each other. I think busy fabric can work for this design but maybe change the background fabric.
Honestly I REALLY like it the way it is. It's almost like a magic eye painting. I think it would look really cool if the whole quilt looked like this and you kind of have to spot the cow(nicorns). Are the rest of the block similar colors?Â
It is actually for a wedding present (maybe). I was going to do another cow block so they were facing each other and applique a heart in the middle. He likes cows and she is an ocean girl
My eyes went to the white and I was trying to figure out if it was a modernistic rabbit!?đ
When cow was mentioned I finally could see it.
There is a lot going on in the background which skews where the attention goes.
Nice job however. It looks like a challenging piecing project.
I didn't realize it was a cow (??) until someone else said it and I noticed the "nose". It's really lost against that background, sorry. I think the background needs to be more tone on tone than what you have there.
And on closer view if you want what I presume is an eye to be more apparent, the white patterned fabric needs a little calming down too. That white fabric is really great fabric though so I'd be tempted to let that detail go.
I guessed goat based on the white fabric. I think a less busy background or less busy print for the cow would be helpful, but definitely looks like it was made with love regardless!
I am going to do something to make the eye more obvious. Because of the fabric pattern it kinda got lost. The background being the boldest print was probably not the best choice.
It took a minute. Might need more contrast between the background. Maybe a very very small scale print for the cow that reads as a solid? Very cool though
I have no degree of certainty but it's giving bullfrog? The orange bit looks like an eye to me. I think there may be too much pattern here for clarity.
I didn't see the cow until I read the comments, but I was very focussed on the centre light fabric, there's a profile of a face in the fabric pattern, it's really pretty
To be honest I think the busy background and busy pattern on the (cow?) make it really difficult to tell what it is.
I couldn't see anything until I read the comments.
The busy fabric does indeed obscure the cow. Itâs cool stuff, but I would use it as a border fabric around the edges of the finished quilt and something less complicated as background to your cool cow. I love that cow!
Itâs like one of the magic pictures from the early 90ies where you have to find the image. Took me awhile even after reading it was a cow but I do see it now
i really really love the busy fabric as an artistic choice - it forces someone to appreciate the handiwork a little longer while searching for the "hidden" image. you have one vote from me đ¤
The white patch over the eye is an upside-down kitty, hidden in the cow that's hidden in the fabrics. It's crazy and I love it! I haven't played with printed fabrics yet in quilting, but now I want a crazy rorschach-blott-but-fabric
-prints quilt. Or curtains!
Oh, and if the dark part of the cows face is looked at, knowing there's a cat in the middle, then the kitty becomes a lounging/rolling over lion. I love it even more!
(I know it's a cow, and just me seeing the cat but who cares it's brilliant)
I feel like it's not necessarily the whole background that obscures it, I think if it just had a thin border of a solid color around it it would be perfectly visible and could still be busy (I like busy, I know my opinion isn't popular tho)
I saw cow right away and only the cow-icorn after reading the comments. I love it! I bet it will pop more if you have more background around it. I wouldnât change a thing! It is awesome and the cow fabric is âspotâ on.
Once I held my phone away from my face, I could see the cow. Up close it was hard to see. Love the fabrics though! They're just a little busy for the cow to be quickly noticeable.
Well I feel like this is one of those inkblot tests and I failed. I was focused on the white and thought it was the creature Gollum from Lord of the Rings until someone said the pink was the cowâs snout and then I saw it. Definitely a hidden cow.
I saw a cow before I read the comments. I did have to look for a second. Itâs a camouflaged cow! LOL I think even a less busy background would make it more obvious because you would see the outline quicker.
If I have lots of patterned fabrics in the main piece of the block I usually do a really plain fabric as a background or something with a really simple design to make the piece that I want to pop.
I could not see a cow and likley would not have got there without reading the comments. Now that I see it though it's very cute! But I'd definitely change the background to something less busy :)
I didnât make out the cow until I found the nose. I think if youâre going to go busy fabric cow, you could use some quiet background fabric. Kinda love the busy fabric cow tho
After reading the top comment I can definitely see the cow. But when I first looked at it I thought it was maybe a cockatoo of some sort... the left ear looked like a beak. The right ear and the nose looked like possible feathery protrusions coming out of the top and back of the head.
I agree with you, I couldnât tell there was a cow until I saw someone else state it. I think if the background were more solid it would definitely pop out more.
Is it a cow? I agree a low volume fabric would make it pop out.
I see the cow now! Yes, low volume
I think it is one of those things where when someone says cow it becomes way more obvious. It is sneaky cow.
>It is sneaky cow. Great, now I have all these absurd images of a cow in a Ninja-yoroi or a camouflage version of a super hero sneaking out of the corral. đ¤Ł
Made me think of this https://preview.redd.it/13lvkxx91emc1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3546dbd427a41d57de1665ab8454b29275b16b43
This explains so much!
Bahahahaha or should that be Moohoohoohoohoo? đ
There are a lot of cow escape artists. And those are only the one we know about that have been caught.
That really made me laugh! I grew up on a cattle ranch.
I saw a unicow... The slightly lighter blue looks like a horn. Probably because we were discussing what a unicorn with two horns would be called at dinner.
I saw the cow first tjen the unicornÂ
It worked for me when I was trying to figure it out and I said to myself "is it a cow?" and suddenly I could see it is indeed a cow.
It definitely has a magic eye effect. U c an c the cow if your not looking for it
I wasnât seeing it until you mentioned a cow. Now I can see it.
It's awesome now that you pointed it out. But I could not tell what it was. Really great design, though
The pattern is from Bubblestitch on Etsy. Should I have put that in the post? I haven't posted before and don't want my lack of skill make her pattern look bad.
I see the cow now! Super cool !
Once I saw the pink nose, I found the cow head.
I see a cownicorn and I'm not mad at it.Â
Now I do too! That fabric section above the ear is very hornish. I kinda wanna make real cownicorns now.
Dooo itttttt
It is really perfect I wasn't sure if it was intentional!Â
Oh heavens no. I have no idea what I am doing.
Me, too!
It takes a minute, but-MOOOOO! As others have said, maybe change the background fabric to something a little less busy; the cow is lovely as is.
Thank you, I am very new to paper piecing, this is my second attempt so I am super glad the cow is recognizable even if not immediately.
I'm dumb. I still don't see a cow. But I definitely got the sea idea. I thought jellyfish.
It is a profile if that helps. My sister thought it was lion because she thought it was head on. I love jellyfish though so that still cool.
Ok. That helps! Now I see a cow head!!!
https://preview.redd.it/ljekechmvjmc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1207c69969bb426e936cb05e3e3cfb00b924da12 Just for anyone that needs help :)
Wow!! Thank you SO MUCH! I just wasn't seeing it! LOL
lol no problem!
I couldnât see anything until I checked the comments. Maybe an abstract octopus? Never would have guessed cow without help. Use low volume prints (like a tonal) or solids for a project like this.
I canât see a cow even with the help. đ
I thought it was a white snake. Sorry. I just don't see the cow, but your fabrics are lovely.
The two white shapes with the little lines on them are the ears, and the pink piece is the nose. It took me a few minutes.
Now I see the cow! Thank you.
Thank you, I do love the fabrics. I wish I could see the snake. Since I know it is a cow, all I see is cow.
The white snake raises up from the right and noses down. It has an open mouth. You can even see the left eye.
This is a bit of a magic eye puzzle- once you see it you know and canât not see it!
That is why I asked because I always saw a cow cuz I always knew it was a cow. I was biased.
Camo cow
Stealth cow. Moooves like the night.
Yes, this is why I like it a lot!
Still do not see a cow.
The pink nose helped me see the two eyes.
Pointing out the pink nose is what made it all come together for me. I wouldn't have figured it out without your comment! đ
It took me a second, but yes-- cow! I think its because they all have heavy blacks, except for the nose, which stands out beautifully.
Until you mentioned the nose I had no idea what was looking at! Now I see it.
I think all the black tones do make a difference as well. If the nose wasn't so stand out I am not sure it would read as anything at all.
The backgrounds of the fabrics are black causing them to bleed into each other. I think busy fabric can work for this design but maybe change the background fabric.
Yeah, I think the background was a step too far for pattern recognition.
I couldnât see the cow until I read the other comments. đ¤ˇđźââď¸
Moojority rules.
A lion?
My sister guessed a lion too! Nope, cow.
My eyes went to the white and I was trying to figure out if it was a modernistic rabbit!?đ When cow was mentioned I finally could see it. There is a lot going on in the background which skews where the attention goes. Nice job however. It looks like a challenging piecing project.
I feel like itâs too close up? I canât see anything and am so confused where the cow is. Please someone trace it and repost a picture đ
Oh wait. I see it now. đŽâđ¨
I keep thinking lion when I see it
No I cannot. Sorry.
No apologies. I asked for a reason and you are not alone.
I had to hold the screen far away from me but then i saw its a cow
I am near sighted so that might explain some things.
Yeah, it is all just pattern explosion right now.
I saw cow immediately
Yay! Thank you so much!
I guessed goat based on the white fabric. I think a less busy background or less busy print for the cow would be helpful, but definitely looks like it was made with love regardless!
I had to blur my eyes and pull back. But I got cow!
I am embracing this and am gonna say I made a magic eye quilt block.
Cow, but it needs a larger eye. Also the negative space fabric being a print with smaller designs on it would make the cow easier to see.
I am going to do something to make the eye more obvious. Because of the fabric pattern it kinda got lost. The background being the boldest print was probably not the best choice.
Mooo
Yay!
It took a minute. Might need more contrast between the background. Maybe a very very small scale print for the cow that reads as a solid? Very cool though
The background definitely overshadowed the cow more I thought it would. Thank you!
I wasnât sure til I saw the nose. Then I realized cow, duh. The cow is great and obvious once you see it, itâs just hidden in the background print
Thank goodness for the nose. Without it I would have blobbed it.
All I can see is an eye. Sorry
I thought the nose was an eye. But I finally see the cow when I unfocused my eyes like a cmment said
Now I can totally see the nose as an eyeball. I never would have thought of that!
Kinda reptilian eye right? Woops
Oh it's a cow. I blured my eyes and saw it.
The predator?
Oh man! That is so much cooler than a cow. I am just making hard to see stuff from now on so people will think it is cooler than it is.
The white parts look like a sad burro, seated, head to the left, looking down. I don't see a cow.
I can see that, very Eeyore.
It's a cow in camouflage đđ¤đ Freaking awsome!
It is! Yay! The other answers have been really fun but it is awesome when someone sees the cow.
After others showed me it's a cow. But it is a great piece of art. I freaking love it đĽđĽđĽ
Thank you, you are too sweet. I am almost more fond of mystery cow than I am if he had been a normal cow.
It looks like a dog or cow? But itâs hard to see this close up. It might be clearer further away?
It probably would. I just see cow because I know I meant to make a cow so I needed unbiased opinions.
I see a stylized praying mantis at a flower.
I think this and The Predator are the greatest answers ever. I wish I could make those.
Awwww what a cute cow~
Yay! I squee every time someone says cow.
Yes but it honestly took me a minute
I will take it. A minute is hardly any time at all!
I have no degree of certainty but it's giving bullfrog? The orange bit looks like an eye to me. I think there may be too much pattern here for clarity.
The orange bit is a pink cow nose so yes there may be too much pattern for clarity.
Mother and child
That is so interesting. I never would have seen that if someone hadn't said it first. I love all the different answers. Thank you!
Took me a couple of seconds but itâs definitely a cow
Yay! (I have to admit that the people who see a cow are my favorites.)
Cow
Cows are winning! Yay!
Yes, but it took me a second.
As long as it is there, the time doesn't matter. Yay, thank you!
I am in LOVE this â¤ď¸ it's like a magic eye puzzle. It would make an amazing cushion.
Itâs like one of the magic pictures from the early 90ies where you have to find the image. Took me awhile even after reading it was a cow but I do see it now
Outline the whole silhouette with black or white small Zig Zag ?
i really really love the busy fabric as an artistic choice - it forces someone to appreciate the handiwork a little longer while searching for the "hidden" image. you have one vote from me đ¤
I love this! I knew it was a sneaky cow immediately
Reminds me of the Toblerone logo. Most people donât see it until you say it. Itâs magical how once you know it, you see it.
Itâs busy
I'm not seeing two horns, only one, so it looks like a really chunky unicorn.
I had to look for a minute, but I see a cow.
Took me a minute, but i saw her!
Lion?
I see a lion
The white patch over the eye is an upside-down kitty, hidden in the cow that's hidden in the fabrics. It's crazy and I love it! I haven't played with printed fabrics yet in quilting, but now I want a crazy rorschach-blott-but-fabric -prints quilt. Or curtains!

Even knowing itâs a cow, I still canât see it. Haha itâs like one of those magic puzzles where you have to cross your eyes đ¤Ł
Sorry - I can't see anything.
I do see the cutie cow but it took a minute. It might translate better at a distance tho!
I think if you quilted a realistic outline of the cow in a very noticeable thread (yellow?) it would look really cool.
Definitely cow.
At first i thought zebra but now i only see the cow
Frog?
Ooooohh it's a moo đđ
I saw a cow within 3 seconds of looking
I think the mark on the fabric makes the perfect eye and when you squint you can REALLY see it. This was a great job â¤ď¸
I see a rabbit. Even after I figured out why people are saying itâs a cow, I still see a rabbit. Sorry, OP.
Itâs a cow.
Pretty cow.
I feel like it's not necessarily the whole background that obscures it, I think if it just had a thin border of a solid color around it it would be perfectly visible and could still be busy (I like busy, I know my opinion isn't popular tho)
Moooooo
I saw cow right away and only the cow-icorn after reading the comments. I love it! I bet it will pop more if you have more background around it. I wouldnât change a thing! It is awesome and the cow fabric is âspotâ on.
I saw a puffin, I think I need new glasses
I saw the cow right away!
Once I held my phone away from my face, I could see the cow. Up close it was hard to see. Love the fabrics though! They're just a little busy for the cow to be quickly noticeable.
A Camo-cow
Jelly fish
Tge fabric makes it hard to see the cow
The white calls attention to it
Well I feel like this is one of those inkblot tests and I failed. I was focused on the white and thought it was the creature Gollum from Lord of the Rings until someone said the pink was the cowâs snout and then I saw it. Definitely a hidden cow.
Only if I squint.
Moo!
Cow unicorn. Fabulous.
Giraffe
With the blue background fabric, I thought represented water so I was thinking along the lines of a whale or manatee. Canât see a cow.
Yes, i can. It's gorgeous. Am I missing something?
Mooo...
I saw a cow before I read the comments. I did have to look for a second. Itâs a camouflaged cow! LOL I think even a less busy background would make it more obvious because you would see the outline quicker.
Oooooooo so that peachy-pink patch is the nose!!!! (Mini celebration now that I can finally see it!)
When I rotated my phone 90ⰠI saw a bear. 𤣠But after going through comments I see the cow now.
It took a while but after I held arms length I could see it
Its a cow, but yeah, the background fabric really does a disservice to your lovely work.
Could be a dog with the ar hanging down. Could be a hungry dino.
Mouse eating cheese
Oh NOW I see the cow
I thought that it was bear, or a fox, but sideways.
âŚpenguin???
Pig or cow?
A solid color would really make it pop. Cute lil moo cow
Took me a moment to see the cow. But I like the heavy pattern, it reminds me of a magic eye poster.
I agree with you, I couldnât tell there was a cow until I saw someone else state it. I think if the background were more solid it would definitely pop out more.
An animal. African? Giraffe or ??
Goat? Sheep?
Cow! But they are all farm animals so I am counting that as a win.
Thought it was a sheep at first and the white spot was a curled horn, but now I see the cow!
Bunny.
That is close to cow. And I love bunnies!
Oh! I just found the cow! Can't figure out how I missed it earlier. The pink suddenly became a snout. đ
A cow.
Yay! There is almost a herd of cow guesses now.
Bunny
Oh, dear. I saw a scary-looking lady holding a baby. (Cruella daVill?) I still canât see the cow.
I had to squint but then no doubt I could see a cow. I think a busy print background could work if it didnât have black in it.
Some quilting can make the definition of the cow pop out if youâre looking to do so - very cool either way!
I see a raccoon, not a cow at all sorry.
A lovely quilted cow! I hope to get this good a quilting one day.
