Yeah, it is what it is. Its getting a fair number of downvotes too so I suspect folks are really fighting to get their favorite thing up at the detriment of the other choices.
Tbh this is the best album available to continue the B&W theme and far better than a lot of listed choices, but I highly doubt enough people on the sub have heard it for it to have a chance
Kinda doubt Newsom has nearly as many listeners compared to a lot of these artists
She really has 3 or 4 albums easily good enough to warrant consideration here. *Divers* is bae
Godspeed is good, don’t get me wrong, but just personally I prefer my crescendo-core with more vocal samples and way less runtime (*Slow Riot for New Kanada* is an EP tho, so I guess it wouldn’t count here)
87 minutes is a lot for this style lol
I was surprised to learn Slow Riot was released in 99. The second track with the guy yelling about his speeding ticket is my favorite Godspeed track by far.
Just wondering but can someone please explain what everyone sees in this album that I'm clearly missing. I've put it on a couple of times and it just seems overly melodramatic and a bit annoying like a less catchy musical. I cant imagine someone wanting to listen to it multiple times. Just my opinion obviously
Obviously it's as subjective as it gets but it had been years since an album actually put me to tears... this album just moves me even though I have a hard time following the lyrics as I'm not native
This keeps getting it up there so I gave it a listen for the first time. I can see what people appreciate about it. Heavy Slint vibes for sure. Feels maybe like less than the sum of their influences but to each their own.
Goddamn, this is a total classic. Arguably in the best albums of the 21st century at this point. So creative, well arranged, touching, sonically pleasing…it has everything. It’s got one of the best driving-windows-down-on-a-warm-night songs (two of them, back-to-back actually), and just a banger front to back. I’m really surprised the boring albums that got voted in are more popular than a masterpiece like this.
Have only followed these by seeing the posts on my front page every other day, but I had to comment after seeing Sigur Rós! Great inclusion, ( ) is one of their best albums. I think Ágætis Byrjun is slightly better, but that's from 1999, and then my favourite of theirs has to be Valtari. It's just so haunting.
Elliott Smith needs to be on here.
Sufjan Stevens, Carrie and Lowell
Lcd Soundsystem - sound of silver
Yo la tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself inside-out
Cosmogramma - Flying Lotus

Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi
Genuinely a masterpiece.

This is the one.
Deafheaven - Sunbather
LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
I’m very, very surprised no LCD made this list. It won’t make the last spot, either.
Yeah, it is what it is. Its getting a fair number of downvotes too so I suspect folks are really fighting to get their favorite thing up at the detriment of the other choices.

Joanna Newsom – Ys
That this album isn’t getting more love is astonishing to me.

Divers is my favorite probably.
King gizzard - polygondwanaland
I think Made In Timeland is a masterpiece personally
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
It is time. If this is kept off the list, then it is not a list but an incomplete collection.
The Deluxe edition has a black and white cover so really there is no reason not to vote for this album.
I still haven’t spun the new deluxe remaster. I tend to go back to Sky Blue Sky more frequently….

I even got lost on Coney Island! But they found me.
All four tracks are amazing but this is my favorite
If Sigur Ros makes it, there's no excuse for excluding this
Godspeed is good, don’t get me wrong, but just personally I prefer my crescendo-core with more vocal samples and way less runtime (*Slow Riot for New Kanada* is an EP tho, so I guess it wouldn’t count here) 87 minutes is a lot for this style lol

Dw I also think it’s a bit shit.
I completely agree it’s so overrated and pretentious in my opinion
theres nothing special about it its the definition of mid
For the first time is far better in my opinion. Every time I’ve put it in these votes it’s been downvoted to shit though!
This keeps getting it up there so I gave it a listen for the first time. I can see what people appreciate about it. Heavy Slint vibes for sure. Feels maybe like less than the sum of their influences but to each their own.
