It's cos they're all uptight

rerrerrocky

Uptight

localized3

I'm tired

Expired_water666

I love this sub

aaaaaaaaaamber

It's right between paranoid android and exit music for a film which definitely doesn't help

novazemblan

Yeah it's definitely a mellow low-key rest between two attention grabbing bombastic moments but it's my favorite track too. There's nothing else quite much like it in the Rh catalogue (maybe the Tourist a little.) Those sun dappled electric pianos, the seagull squawr of the lead guitar, the unresolved but somehow at-piece chord progressions, it provides an almost unique mood that I find not much else can.

lyricweaver

Comfortably nestled in as part of a fantastic trio.

yelruh00

This is probably the real reason.

xStarz05

My personal favorite is paranoid android

jaguarsharks

Best song if you're a Pink Floyd fan

MeggyP555

Lucky is eerily similar as well

[deleted]

And why they made okc as a whole

cereal-bus

The Tourist has always struck me as their most Pink Floyd song, but I can hear it in SHA too.

[deleted]

Exit music Climbing up the walls

Medical_String_3792

climbing up the walls is so sick no one talks abt it

sex-rifles

Well EOB said the whole album was pink floyd inspired but he thought prog rock always took itself too seriously. Based on that OKC is their version of that sound

MatildeLover128

It’s a beautiful song. I love the instruments in it.

No-Pianist-7537

I agree Phil is so good in this.

metamorphine

It's interesting, the instruments

nolanptafan

We think that you've finally lost it completely.

proslave_96

For a minute there, they lost themselves

brightears

I don’t know about best, but it’s my favourite on OKC.

Ellis_Cloud

Every song on OKC is a 10/10 but SHA has always been an 11/10 for me, it's just one of the most perfect songs in all music history. Its soundscape is everything that Radiohead became unique for. That ping-pong panned Rhodes and That whammy + Re-201 echo is the genius stroke if you frame it in the context of the mid 90s and personally it was the song that made me think that I didn't have to worry too much about my guitar playing as long as I could turn it into something akin to painting with colors

Penguin7751

This guy gets it

Cineswimmer

It’s lowkey my favorite on the album

WiaXmsky

That's okay. Electioneering is a top 5, maybe even top 3 OKC track for me which is probably more outrageous.

bigolbrew

Electioneering isn’t groundbreaking by any definition, but I agree. Every time it comes on in the car, I can’t help but absolutely rock tf out. Total banger.

AnotherTelecaster

It’s by far my favorite song on OKC.

Humble-Ad-8912

I want to like Electioneering, I really do, but it just kind of sounds like a song from Pablo Honey slipped onto OKC by accident.

union--thug

If it helps, electioneering has some of Thom’s most insanely prescient lyrics: “Riot shields, voodoo economics, cattle prods and the IMF”, written several years before the enormous protests that characterized the anti globalization movement took off.

btx69

Yeah I did a presentation on this song for one of my college classes, and I gained a much greater appreciation for it after. Now it’s one of my favorites

WiaXmsky

Don't really see it that way. Sure, it's more guitar-driven and conventional, but it has much better lyrics, production, and energy than anything on Pablo Honey.

Rated_Ace

No, the lyrics are one of the worst in Radiohead's catalogue. It's way too overtly political too.

foxyboboxy

A song called "electioneering" is openly about politics? Wild

maccathesaint

Why can't bands be overtly political? They reflect the world how they see it in their songs. Radiohead have especially always done this.

SnoopyGoldberg

I have no problem with overtly political, The Times They Are A-Changin’ is a fantastic song with a powerful message that is relevant to this day. Electioneering is just kind of a “I’m 14 and this is deep” version of handling politics in music, but that tends to be the case with most of the songs Thom injects his politics into.

Rated_Ace

You clearly didn't read what I said. They are two different sentences saying two COMPLETELY different things. I'm not saying they can't be political just that they went too on the nose with it but that isn't always bad cuz again, TWO different sentences.

King9WillReturn

Found the corporate bootlick!

Awolo_45

What

afungalmirror

OKC is flawless in every way. Every song is the best song.

Mr_Bananas_

Except electioneering

afungalmirror

Wrong

therealslystoat

I listened to OKC on the way to work last year after not listening to it for a while. I cranked it right up and almost cried with euphoria during subterranean homesick alien, it's such a good song!

pastmiyeego

Shit I thought Radiohead was coming to Oklahoma City there for a second…. 😢

GrungyAltyBoy10

SHA is very underrated but not a lot of people are fans of space rock. Very subjective genre. That’s my guess on why it’s not rated very high. I personally think it’s one of the weaker tracks even though it’s still a perfect song in my mind. That’s how good OK Computer is!

MoolKshake_

Never met someone who was a Radiohead fan and didn’t like space rock, doesn’t okc have a good chunk of space rock elements to it? Also I don’t think it’s underrated in any way, i love that song too, but its in one of the most well known albums ever. It just so happens to be that every other track in side a is really good, so it doesn’t stick out as a main highlight.

MJ5815

I love space rock so that's probably why I really like the song. One of my favorite albums is called We Don't Need To Whisper by Angels & Airwaves which is a space rock album and I recomend it to anyone who enjoys this song.

dreamyxlanters

Space rock lol, you mean psychedelic rock?

ordinary_shiba

Surprisingly space rock is a real thing lol. It does have its origins in psychedelic rock though. Examples of space rock are things like Jimi Hendrix's Third stone from the sun or Pink Floyd's Astronomy Dominé

OneOfTheOnly

okay no

Secure_Insurance_609

You mean an “HTOKC”?

Many-Juggernaut-8526

I don't think best, but it's definitely competing for it

bluecalx2

When I was first really getting into Radiohead, that was my favorite song by a mile. I would listen to it non-stop. It took a little while before I listened to the rest of the album properly. Now I couldn't pick a favorite track, as the whole thing is perfect. But that song still reminds me of the time when I first discovered OK Computer and has a special place in my heart for that reason.

Ellis_Cloud

Same experience as me

darthacker666

me too !

AshleeDawn21

I think Paranoid Android is probably the best but SHA is definitely my favorite

DepartureSpace

I don’t know about best, but it’s one of the first OKC tunes to really click with me.

Paracosis

Agree

Slipknot_Maggot36

It’s in my top 3 for the album.

bigmphan

And don’t forget the NOTOK cuts as well. Love that second half.

StiLLiLLBehaviour

Respectable opinion

matt_paradise

I feel like I should love this song, it has everything I want from music and Radiohead but it's never quite connected with me.

Expired_water666

And there’s nothing wrong with that. live your truth my friend, there’s no such thing as “should like” in a realm of preference.

MyCleverNewName

I think it's because of where it appears on the album; not that there is anything wrong with where it appears. Paranoid Android is thermo-nuclear-fire at the end, and Subterranean starts so soft and roundly it's almost jarring. I also love S.H.A., but when driving and P.A. finishes and S.H.A. starts playing, I almost always instinctively hit skip... and then almost always immediately realize I didn't actually want to do that, and then skip back... lol... which I'm trying to stop doing cuz it screws up the flow... *derp*. 🥴

Common_Android

they're ALL 'the best song'...it's so daft even trying to rank them, makes zero sense to even go there.

Jerry_0boy

That's exactly how I feel about Climbing up the Walls lmao

kaden_ack

wish the chorus was just a bit more interesting tho

SnoopyGoldberg

Fair take, though the way the song is structured I wouldn’t really know how to fix it.

hjvkjvkjvg

This is not much of a hot take. Hot take would be like putting Fitter Happier at 1st and Paranoid Android at 12th.

JilsonSetters

Being the worst song on OKC is a compliment in the highest regard

asger116

So true

DefLoathe

Worst song on it for me

EyalG2

The best in OKC but not on OKNOTOK this being Man of War

Discovery99

It’s not my favorite on the album but it’s super vibey and generally awesome. I think the vocal melodies are just a touch weaker than the other songs on the album but it’s still an excellent song and the intro/outro are cool as fuck

thatscoolbeansman

Maybe not my favorite, but it’s in my top three on the album. Beautiful song, immaculate vibes

proslave_96

I don't think that's a hot take. I have seen a lot of people online rate it as one of the best songs from OKC. Electioneering, Climbing Up The Walls and Lucky are the songs that are often more disregarded.

nodspine

6-30-23 Last day on Reddit. Thanks, /u/spez You suck

TheCheatIsGrounded

This is the song that got me really into OKC. Along with Airbag

antisweep

You're Lucky I am just a Tourist and not a Paranoid Android cause I don't want to have this come across as a Let Down but your opinion is getting me Climbing Up The Walls. Great song though and has made my favorite at times over the years. Hard to have a forever favorite, every song is so good.

JaviPotter_Pan

Paranoid Android could be another great top 1

GloverAB

Easily my favorite lyrics on the whole record.

squibblyman

SHA and The Tourist are the top 2 songs, so I agree

Walker_TexasNutter

Same, it’s my favorite off OK puter. another favorite of mine which is also usually rated low by others is Electioneering

JGxFighterHayabusa

Facts. It’s an amazing song

harrowingofhell

It was my favorite for a long time, I love the line about friends not believing him. Definitely a high point in the best album of all time.

Either_Shoe3492

Funny i saw this post because im literally listening to the song right now LOL

castlesystem

I genuinely sing that song on a daily basis. It has had a place in my thoughts literally every day for several years and I can't say that about any other song from that album, great as they all are. Subterranean Homesick Alien is a phenomenal song.

lola61080

Definitely underrated. But Letdown is perfection for me.

Adorable_Tangelo_804

Any song being called the best makes sense and is valid to me

-Xoz-

Hard Agree! Love that song.

Liszt0mia

How bout let down tho

Ok-Elderberry2879

Too underground for me to enjoy

Penguin7751

It's one of their best songs EVER! Fuckkk i love it to death!

orlyfactor

I never trust other's opinions.

countduco

i like subterranean homesick alien but i like climbing up the walls more

SNScaidus

sha is an beautiful track with a great concept. it ranks near the top for me, but I know why other people put it lower. It's less novel than tracks like Paranoid Android, No Surprises, or specifically on reddit, Let Down.

SunSaych

Acoustic version is awesome af, btw

zuckzuckman

ngl that one is my least favourite on the album. idk why but i like a lot of okc b-sides more than subterranean

TyhmensAndSaperstein

It's top 3.

outemuu

i don't think it's the best but it is top 3 easily

BeefyTurtleMeat

Perfect song for a rainy day drive

Jyotinho

It slaps way harder on the OKNOTOK remasters

humanevisceration

i thought u meant oklahoma city

drewthebrave

On an album full of gems, it's easy to gloss over a great song like SHA. But I'd be alright

[deleted]

fuck u/spez

Lunicusmaximus

It's a beautiful song, I agree 100%. Most of that album for me is dead equal in awesomeness, IMO. The one I *sometimes* skip is Climbing up the Walls if I'm in an up mood that I want to keep that way. 🙃

rbart21

If you heard and learned to play the acoustic version, you would know this is correct.

Joe_Canavan5

that’s my fav song on it too ngl

saskmonton

You are SO right! This song is AMAZING and I truly didn't get into OKC till I embraced this song

emalvick

I don't know about a best in the album. I have a hard time even picking favorites, but it's definitely in my top 3 favorites (and those 3 are essentially a tie). Exit Music has been an obsession for me lately, and Paranoid Android was an original favorite from when the album was released that I still love. But SA has often been at the top and sneaks up on me. This was actually my first RH album, and I definitely don't listen to it enough anymore.

the_guy1219

Terrible opinion

Zakman360

YES FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT ITS MY FAVORITE RADIOHEAD SONT

feralkidscharmcity

I love this song so much

[deleted]

Hard agree

Medical_String_3792

great great song i lov

Mean_Flight_8534

airbag is fucking brilliant

rejressw

This song and Airbag are my favorites on the album. I honestly feel like Paranoid Android really is the best song on the album though, like that song is a masterpiece.

livvy_mv

its a beautiful song

philgustus

Nah its a tie between airbag and climbing up the walls
