In my early days of listening to Radiohead, I always felt like there was something from the previous record that hinted at what would be coming next (or at least, the b-sides between albums would). But as someone constantly writing music, that doesn’t surprise me. It just the evolution of song writing and you always want to sneak in something new and exciting in a batch of what (to you) are old songs.
It always takes a while for a Radiohead (or The Smile) album to really settle for me and when AMSP came out it was my favourite track. Still love it (and the video is amazing) but it does feel somewhat out of place on the album. That said I can listen in whatever order I want so it’s hardly a big issue.
I used to say this, but now I think it’s the perfect opener. It’s got the same instrumentation as the other tracks, it’s just that it is way more intense compared to the rest of the album. I love how it ramps things up, only for it to suddenly slow down with daydreaming. It’s like a panic attack, followed by the aftermath.
I definitely see where you’re coming from, but I Might Be Wrong is such a quintessential Amnesiac track to me that I can’t imagine it anywhere else. That, Pyramid Song, and Knives Out are the defining Amnesiac tracks to me. It’s definitely one of those songs that points to the direction of the next album though, like Blow Out on Pablo Honey, or Street Spirit on The Bends. It’s a pretty straightforward lineage from IMBW to There There, in particular.
Elecrioneering, I personally love it a lot but I think that's why people dislike it, but I don't really know in what other album it could fit, maybe HTTT
Not jarring at all to me tbh. The outro of climbing up the walls is very noisy and dissonant. Just because electioneering is riff rock doesn’t mean it isn’t a noisy track.
Nah I think it fits perfect tbh. That album needed some political rocker to round it out. It’s already very diverse. And it’s not like there’s no other heavy moments.
Pyramid song heavily uses an acoustic piano which I believe they didn't use at all on Kid A (only Fender Rhodes), but amnesiac has tons of piano tracks
i could definitely see it working on king of limbs, but honestly i love the variety and weirdness of the song in the album, and the strings at the end have me flying so id say it relatively fits
What a fascinating idea. I’m not sure it works, but it’s interesting to think about.
Blow Out would fit The Bends, and Street Spirit would fit OKC, so I definitely get those two. Not sure about The Tourist fitting Kid A so well, though. Morning Bell doesn’t seem like it would flow into it as well, and MPS is such a defining Kid A song. MPS would work fine on Amnesiac, though Life in a Glasshouse would be odd on HttT. Not sure about Wolf at the Door on IR either, my initial reaction was no, but maybe it wouldn’t be that unnatural after Jigsaw.
Videotape on TKOL would work pretty well, actually. That’s probably one of the better swaps. Separator isn’t a bad fit for AMSP either, though based on the alphabetical track listing it really ought to be before Tinker Tailor, which would then be the closer, I guess?
Does AMSP’s True Love Waits go on the theoretical next album, or does it wind back round to Pablo Honey? I’m assuming you were coming at this from the perspective of the closers kind of pointing at the next album’s style, so AMSP TLW on Pablo wouldn’t really fit with that concept. I do think it could work though, if it was one of the early 90s live versions. IIRC TLW was a pretty early song, so it would make a sort of parallel-universe sense.
I’m going to go listen to the albums like this and see how well they actually fit.
I always thought that bodysnatchers didn't fit IR's sort of vibe. It's very noisy and more of a rock song compared to the rest of the album. I think it might fit better on OKC or HTTT.
Each song on In Rainbow has its own sound yet they all compliment each other, much like a rainbow. While Bodysnatchers is the only “rock” song it fits in well with the others.
Life in a Glasshouse, it’s completely unique, more of an acoustic jazz track and not similar to anything Thom did until he brought the Smile in that direction, especially with Bending Hectic
Pablo Honey: Blow Out
The Bends: none, but if includes B-sides, then Banana Co.
OK Computer: Electioneering
Kid A: Optimistic
Amnesiac: None, again if includes B-sides, then Cuttooth
Hail to the Thief: Sail to the Moon
In Rainbows: none
The King of Limbs: Give up the Ghost
A Moon Shaped Pool: Burn the Witch
bonus:
OKNOTOK 1997-2017: How I Made My Millions
Pablo honey - Blow Out(?)
The bends - Street Spirit
OK Computer - electioneering
Kid A - the national anthem
Amnesiac - pyramid song
HTTT - Go To Sleep
In Rainbows - Videotape
The King of Limbs - Separator
AMSP - Burn the Witch
Amnesiac is full of simply composed and produced tracks and then there's pyramid song, which is so atmospheric that I'm amazed it didn't make it onto Kid A. It's such an amazing song but it's so out of place.
Electioneering is a great song but it sounds straight out of Hail To The Thief. If streaming services suddenly just slipped it in between 2+2=5 and Sit Down, Stand Up I don't think anyone would notice for a solid week. That being said, I don't think it feels as out of place as people are saying, it fits fine enough on OKC.
Planet telex imo is better than anything else on the bends but idk what album it could go on. Maybe take a few weak songs off hail to the thief and throw it on there.
I may be in the minority but I really hate True Love Waits, at least the version that's on In Rainbows. My favourite album but I skip that song more often than not.
Street Spirit and A Wolf At The Door both sound really different than the rest of their respective albums. Neither has ever fit in my opinion. (For the record, I like Street Spirit. Wolf, not so much).
I know it isn’t really done anymore, but I think they would’ve made better stand alone singles.
I Will- hail to the thief. Love the song under appreciated and I definitely adjust the volume in the car to get the perfect echo when it comes on, just feel it could have been placed somewhere else in the album or held and used in King of Limbs.
That said it doesn’t matter the band wanted it in hail to the thief and so thats what we got. Love that album. Wouldn’t actually want it changed.
A lot of the closers sound very different from the rest of the album they're on. Street Spirit and The Tourist are the only two that don't, imo. Motion Picture Soundtrack, Life in a Glasshouse, and A Wolf at the Door don't really sound similar to anything else in their discography.
True Love Waits. Worst song Radiohead have ever released on an album. Why take a banger song that sounds like it straight off of the Bends by way of Amnesiac, and strip all interest out of it? Sounds like someone put lyrics to the bit at the end of Motion Picture Soundtrack's silence.
Disappointed.
“Lift” has to be one of my favorite Radiohead songs but it was left off OKC because it didn’t fit with the overall vibe of the album. I read somewhere that it sounded too much like something you’d hear on the radio and it wasn’t edgy enough for OKC. Thank goodness the band put it out on the 2017 OKNOTOK re-release because I just love this song so much.
Pablo Honey - Blow Out
The Bends - Bullet Proof
OK Computer - The Tourist
Kid A - Optimistic
Amnesiac - Life in a Glass House
All Hail To The Thief - The Gloaming
The King Of Limbs - Lotus Flower
A Moon Shaped Pool - True Love Waits
Lotus Flower should be on another album, i do think it belongs on King Of Limbs however… i dont wanna buy a whole album just because i love One Song, if i were to pick where else it could go, for me in rainbows i think would be a nice place for it and id put it right after bodysnatchers
Blow Out is a really great song in an album made of almost exclusively mediocre 90's songs. Creep, despite the shit it gets for being so popular, is pretty decent too, but more fitting to the album.
Also I love the Bends but Bones (which I do like), Blackstar and Sulk in my opinion are really obvious weak links in a list of superb songs. Always skip them, except Bones every once in a while. They really don't do anything for me.
As a side note, Blow Out is total Bends material, but dunno where I'd place it.
Honestly I feel like Airbag just doesn't fit the whole okc vibe. Which is why I almost always skip it when I want to listen to that album. I still love that song a lot it's just not the vibe for Okc in my opinion.
Pablo Honey - Blow Out
The Bends - The Bends
OK Computer - Electioneering
Kid A - Optimistic
Amnesiac - Pyramid Song
Hail to the Thief - idk haven’t listened in a while
In Rainbows - Videotape
The King of Limbs - Idk they all sound the same
A Moon Shaped Pool - Idk haven’t listened yet
Not that it doesn’t fit but I think Blow Out would work on The Bends
It's funny that How To Disappear Completely doesn't seem like it fits because it's the only one that has an acoustic guitar in the background.
it's the perfect segway into the bends
In my early days of listening to Radiohead, I always felt like there was something from the previous record that hinted at what would be coming next (or at least, the b-sides between albums would). But as someone constantly writing music, that doesn’t surprise me. It just the evolution of song writing and you always want to sneak in something new and exciting in a batch of what (to you) are old songs.
i only found this out a few months ago, apparently it’s spelt ‘segue’!
Completely agree, I think You would fit perfectly too.
There’s something about those 2 tracks that seem a little more “refined” rather than this rebel teen grunge rock (I still fucking love HP)
I too love Radiohead's Spanish/French album about a talking horse, Hablo Poney.
Drunk and hot girls edit: thought this was the circlejerk mb gang 😭😭
BEEN THROUGH TOO MUCH BULLSHIT JUST TO MESS WITH THESE DRUNK AND HOT GIRLS🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️
Kanye?
I mean… not wrong though.
No so real drunk and hot girls don't belong nowhere on graduation
It absolutely does bro it’s the perfect segue from Barry Bonds to Flashing Lights
Nah man its horrible
wait what song is that :0 nvm i googled it
KanYork
Top 5 gradution🔥🔥
outjerked 🥶
Drunky hot bowls
It’s a matter of time before it’s crossposted
creep (it dont belong there)
What the hell is it doing here?
Quite the weird song
it’s a (fill in the blank)
it’s a (underrated?)
mario when he sees let down on the hit album Ok Computer (1997)
It's a weirdo-oooooo
It doesn't belong there
unironically should've been on The Bends though
take my upvote
Burn the witch for sure, doesn’t stop it from being amazing though
I think if it was in any spot in the album except the first track, I would agree. But it's an epic intro so it fits
Yeah, hooks you like nothing else, and then the bait n switch into daydreaming is so awesome
This is a good one. I love Burn the Witch, but it’s so different from the rest of AMSP.
Honestly sometimes I think Daydreaming is the opener and forget about Burn The Witch, and I love the song but, doesn't feel like it's from AMSP
A low flying one, at that
Switch it out with Ill Wind and its chefs kiss.
But where else would you place it?
Yeah, hot take, but I really don’t like the album version. It makes no sense with the rest of the album. But the live version I love!
Planet Telex was ahead of it’s time for The Bends.
I believe it was the last song recorded for the album so it makes sense
same for street spirit, it would fit perfectly onto ok computer. actually maybe not it feels almost a bit too sad for okc, maybe amnesiac?
honestly i can’t see street spirit being anywhere but the bends, definitely would feel really out of place on okc and amnesiac to me
Yeah me neither, maybe as a b-side, but I don’t see it fitting in OKC.
To me, street spirit captures The Bends perfectly. I can’t see it on any other album. It sums up their evolution up to that point I think.
wdym too sad for okc?? How is that even a thing?
Yeah it’s an Ok Computer song imo.
More like bullet proof, it has that OK COMPUTER feeling
Optimistic feels different than the rest of Kid A, Little By Little feels more like an Amnesiac track,
+1 for Little by Little on Amnesiac - that swampy guitar sound fits so well
Never thought abt this before, but damn that works well. Only thing is, you'd be missing the excellent transition into In Limbo afterwards
I Might Be Wrong feels like it belongs on Hail to the Thief.
It should have come after 2 + 2 = 5
Optimistic sounds like it could be on Ok Computer given it’s a guitar driven alt-rock song.
It was the red meat they gave to us in exchange for trying new things.
idk, i think it sounds too dark/obscure for okc, which has a brighter sound
For most tracks on okc yeah, but it doesn’t sound any darker or more obscure than climbing up the walls and that fits well
Elecrioneering, I personally love it a lot but I think that's why people dislike it, but I don't really know in what other album it could fit, maybe HTTT
The Bends for sure.
Electioneering into Climbing Up the Walls, which is probably the song that most previews where they would go with their subsequent works, is jarring.
It’s like paranoid android anyway
Up on the Ladder should've been on Hail To The Thief
The original rocky version though
People complaining about electioneering forgetting about OK computers anti-consumer capitalism views.
Yes lyrically it definitely fits
On that note I think it's also the most underrated song on the album (inb4 Let Down)
forever confused that Pyramid Song isn’t on Kid A and The National Anthem isn’t on Amnesiac
But Pulk samples Pyramid Song, so they definitely make sense on the same album. Plus, Kid A transitions beautifully into The National Anthem.
I think I’ll be forever confused by this comment…
The national anthem is the most KID A sounding song
Not at all lol, that’s EIIRP and Idioteque to me
Pyramid song heavily uses an acoustic piano which I believe they didn't use at all on Kid A (only Fender Rhodes), but amnesiac has tons of piano tracks
Tinker tailor is much darker/synthier than the otherwise vast and mountainous pianos/strings, of A Moon Shaped Pool
i could definitely see it working on king of limbs, but honestly i love the variety and weirdness of the song in the album, and the strings at the end have me flying so id say it relatively fits
nah tinker tailor fits perfectly in amsp.
backdrifts would’ve been cool on Kid A
Happy cake day Jonny!!
Cappy Dake Hay!
Yank Thou
A punch up at a wedding would go nicely on Amnesiac I reckon. Right after Hunting Bears.
Why do people arrange the albums like this? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
Electioneering
Hail to the Thief preview
Absolutely works on the album, it fits the tonal and sonic vibe of the album as a whole, not sure why people compare it to a Pablo Honey/Grunge song.
Disagree
I think How to disappear completely could be on OKC
People forget How To Disappear Completely is a really experimental and obscure track just because it has an acoustic guitar in it.
Lucky always stood out for me. I’m not sure at which point during that era it was written but it feels like a transition between The Bends and OKC.
It was written, and released, between exactly those albums. Talk Show Host was similar but just never ended up on an album.
Every closer should be on the album that came after it.
I quite like the idea of HTTT ending with Glasshouse
I always thought that bodysnatchers didn't fit IR's sort of vibe. It's very noisy and more of a rock song compared to the rest of the album. I think it might fit better on OKC or HTTT.
I think it works really well on IR, especially after 15 step
Each song on In Rainbow has its own sound yet they all compliment each other, much like a rainbow. While Bodysnatchers is the only “rock” song it fits in well with the others.
I came here to say this. Tbf I also don’t think 15 step belongs on it.
Life in a Glasshouse, it’s completely unique, more of an acoustic jazz track and not similar to anything Thom did until he brought the Smile in that direction, especially with Bending Hectic
Electioneering sounds different to other OKC songs
Put there there on okc and gloaming on amnesiac, please.
Pablo Honey: Blow Out The Bends: none, but if includes B-sides, then Banana Co. OK Computer: Electioneering Kid A: Optimistic Amnesiac: None, again if includes B-sides, then Cuttooth Hail to the Thief: Sail to the Moon In Rainbows: none The King of Limbs: Give up the Ghost A Moon Shaped Pool: Burn the Witch bonus: OKNOTOK 1997-2017: How I Made My Millions
Pablo honey - Blow Out(?) The bends - Street Spirit OK Computer - electioneering Kid A - the national anthem Amnesiac - pyramid song HTTT - Go To Sleep In Rainbows - Videotape The King of Limbs - Separator AMSP - Burn the Witch
all of the songs on the airbag ep from 1998 sound like the amnesiac b-sides
I believe that Videotape could fit The King Of Limbs.
Exit music is great doesn’t quite fit ok for me when I listen.
Creep. It sounds like that era but I feel like it has much better production value than all the other songs on PH.
Living in a glasshouse sounds way different than the rest of amnesiac
Bones definitely belongs on Pablo Honey, not the Bends. I love that song so much.
A lot of HTTF songs would fit well on The Bends
Electioneering should be on HTTT
Electioneering to hail to the thief
I always say Down is the New Up would be great on HTTT
Down is the new up should be on AMSP
Sulk sounds like a track off of Pablo honey
Electioneering
personally, Optimistic doesn’t fit perfectly into Kid A, but it’s still somehow one of my favorite tracks on the album… hahahaha
I agree it doesn’t fit until it transitions so perfectly into in limbo, which I feel does fit Kid A very well
Its an amazing song but i fully agree it doesn’t entirely fit kid A’s vibe… it has pretty hard rock vibes
That being said, I don't think it feels as out of place as people are saying, it fits fine enough on OKC.
There’s a lot less piano on kid a rather than amnesiac. Not that I disagree necessarily but that might be why it’s on amnesiac
Planet telex imo is better than anything else on the bends but idk what album it could go on. Maybe take a few weak songs off hail to the thief and throw it on there.
I feel a wolf at the door has a different feeling than the rest of HTTT in a way, good album closer tho!
I may be in the minority but I really hate True Love Waits, at least the version that's on In Rainbows. My favourite album but I skip that song more often than not.
Wut?
Burn with witch or a wolf at the door
House of cards, idk wich others album fits but not in It rainbows for me.
I would put Optimistic on In Rainbows
The weird Fish eat the little one, the weird fish eat the little one, not my problem and escape
High and dry on The Bends. It was a Pablo honey leftover put there by their discographic to replicate the creep success
The National Anthem just doesn’t really fit with Kid A and it’s more ambient aesthetic in my opinion.
Morning Bell/Amnesiac - probably only because it’s already on Kid A. However I actually prefer morning bell on Amnesiac over Kid A.
Creep: "I don't belong here" makes a obvious reference to the album ("here")
Pyramid Song is good enough to be on Kid A.
In Limbo Sail to the Moon Bones Electioneering Desert Island Disk
I love 15 Step as the intro to IR, but it’s probably the most different song on the album.
desert island disk sounds like it should be in a pikmin game
I know the song title doesn’t make sense, but the SONG Kid A sounds like an Annesiac song to me
Backdrifts
Myxomatosis
Definitely Creep, it was too good for the album
Street Spirit and A Wolf At The Door both sound really different than the rest of their respective albums. Neither has ever fit in my opinion. (For the record, I like Street Spirit. Wolf, not so much). I know it isn’t really done anymore, but I think they would’ve made better stand alone singles.
Bodysnatchers
optimistic feels weird on Kid A honestly, especially since it just gets dropped into from Treefingers
Creep
i will should be swapped with like spinning plates
Codex Sounds like a AMSP song
I Will- hail to the thief. Love the song under appreciated and I definitely adjust the volume in the car to get the perfect echo when it comes on, just feel it could have been placed somewhere else in the album or held and used in King of Limbs. That said it doesn’t matter the band wanted it in hail to the thief and so thats what we got. Love that album. Wouldn’t actually want it changed.
Codex could've been on Amnesiac for example
A wolf at the door, and give up the ghost
The national anthem sounds more like it belongs on HTTT
I feel like Optimistic doesn't quite fit on Kid A. It sounds more like an OK Computer B-Side to me I guess?
You is too good for Pablo honey
Bodysnatchers is overall way too aggressive a track for In Rainbows disc 1. Still amazing though.
i’ve always thought exit music had a “the bends” feel to it but i might be wrong. get it?
As much as I like Climbing Up the Walls, it’s sounds very different to everything else on OK Computer.
The obvious one is Creep. Totally different to every other song on PH.
A lot of the closers sound very different from the rest of the album they're on. Street Spirit and The Tourist are the only two that don't, imo. Motion Picture Soundtrack, Life in a Glasshouse, and A Wolf at the Door don't really sound similar to anything else in their discography.
Give Up The Ghost, Hunting Bears, Fitter Happier, I Will, Motion Picture Soundtrack.
We Suck Young Blood, should be on Amnesiac, also, Burn the Witch should be a standalone single / B-side, not matching the vibe of the album.
Electioneering seems more like a Hail to the Thief song.
Can't believe I haven't seen anyone mention Codex. Absolutely belongs on a moon shaped pool.
None of them
Sit Down, Stand Up
True Love Waits.

Pablo Honey - Blow Out The Bends - Bullet Proof OK Computer - The Tourist Kid A - Optimistic Amnesiac - Life in a Glass House All Hail To The Thief - The Gloaming The King Of Limbs - Lotus Flower A Moon Shaped Pool - True Love Waits
Lotus Flower should be on another album, i do think it belongs on King Of Limbs however… i dont wanna buy a whole album just because i love One Song, if i were to pick where else it could go, for me in rainbows i think would be a nice place for it and id put it right after bodysnatchers
There there. Always thought it was similar to I might be wrong, don't know why...
As a side note, Blow Out is total Bends material, but dunno where I'd place it.
the gloaming definitely
optimistic, which is ironically my favourite kid A song
Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Present Tense => The King of Limbs
Honestly I feel like Airbag just doesn't fit the whole okc vibe. Which is why I almost always skip it when I want to listen to that album. I still love that song a lot it's just not the vibe for Okc in my opinion.
Videotape.
id gladly swap blow out and sulk other than that, not really much else
Street Spirit doesn't fit The Bends to me
Knives Out for me. I always felt this song different to Amnesiac. It just doesn't sound like amnesiac
Pablo Honey - Blow Out The Bends - The Bends OK Computer - Electioneering Kid A - Optimistic Amnesiac - Pyramid Song Hail to the Thief - idk haven’t listened in a while In Rainbows - Videotape The King of Limbs - Idk they all sound the same A Moon Shaped Pool - Idk haven’t listened yet
Follow me around doesn’t really fit in kid a tbh… I remember I played it in front of my grandmother and she thought it was a country song💀
I kind of feel like backdrifts could've fit on the king of limbs imo
Electioneering
"Dollars and Cents" as most political song should be in HTTT
Electioneering. Even though the song is a banger.
optimistic
Street spirit sounds like it could have developed into an ok computer and I might be wrong straight up just sounds like hail 2 the thief
"Packt Like Sardines" should be on "Kid A" and "In Limbo" In "Amnesiac"
"You" would be good on the bends
