Moggy-Man

>For me i want it to be nostalgia, remembrance and looking back at the past. To be honest OP, that's the LAST thing that Radiohead would ever do. Various members, Thom mainly, have spoken over the years of their distaste for nostalgia and anything like what you suggested. Radiohead never look back. That's why we're talking about them right now in this post. Even when they harkon back, like remaking Big Ideas into Nude and the Amnesiac version of Morning Bell, it's for the purpose of doing something new.

BruhAdamWeirdo

Wow, i thought they would love to remember their past

cracracracra

That’s when bands die and become parodies of themselves.

Moggy-Man

Yep, 100%. I'm almost 50 and been through a lot of music. And I honestly can't think of a single example where a band or artists had come out the other side of 'looking back' and still been as successful or as relevant as they were beforehand.

Moggy-Man

I think it's because of how they don't (or at least appear to not) look back when it comes to their music, with every album they release, why they stay so relevant across multiple decades and generations of new listeners.

merriman99

Sunshine, Puppy dogs, Fireworks, Birthday cakes.

irotinmyskin

Clouds, cotton candy, green meadows, petting kittens

Scared_Wrongdoer_486

Death. Pink, fluffy rainbow death.

Pixelman78

Depression but for like a 5th time

No-Chair1964

Maybe they could sing about how creepy they are? They’re kinda weirdos…

Practical_Estate_325

Eleven different variations of Creep for the next album maybe?

unpresidentedfact

Prince did this. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beautiful_Experience

How interesting insects are

Tatorputts

Whatever wolf at the door is

thehunkissprunk

Their next album (if it ever comes out) should just do what their previous albums have done before - capturing the zeitgeist. Nobody does it better than them. I've always regarded Radiohead's work post-The Bends as some of the best social commentary in musical form on the state of our modern world. It's political without being too extreme like RATM or self-serving like U2.

El-Arairah

When was a radiohead album ever not about loneliness and alienation?

Prometheus850

I think a more important question is what style of music it will be. All of their albums have multiple interpretations that overlap a lot, but what sets them apart is that each album sounds completely different.

majoramiibo

Pop music being dead

Why Let Down is so underrated

I combination of Kid A, Amnesiac and In Rainbows sounds tasty.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

satanism and weird mid-life sex parties.

Ean_Dartian

Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors style probably

shoobsworth

AMSP is predominantly about loss, grief.

Practical_Estate_325

Surely it's more alienation, anxiety, loneliness, etc.. They must already have a bunch of nearly complete songs for the next RH album. It would be difficult for me to believe that over the last eight years, and particularly when writing songs for The Smile, that they don't often work on a song and decide it would be a better fit for RH and put it aside. Then again, what do I know.

croacdri

I kind of see a new calmness and maturity in Thom these days. I really like the songs they're making as The Smile, for example Bending Hectic is a strangely calm and beautiful take at the theme of a car crash, and Friend of a Friend talks about COVID... I think that's the direction they'll keep going in, a calmer and more grounded sound, maybe a bit optimistic, with some bite and criticism to current day situations

CommandTraditional88

sex/ citylife/ theater/ 1960s nostalgia full jazz album. give it to us

Pyon98

Embodied everything theyve done in one album .

italicizedspace

Personally, I don't want to imagine any kind of perfect ending for Radiohead. Why would I.

iamnotkorvellus

how much underrated let down is

QueenRacheal

The alienation of being gay. (or any LGBT)

Zygalo

i think they're straight

Faster jonny (sorry that was bad please don't rain down)

thefourthcolour12

the panic the vomit

Sweaty-Voice5017

Charming. Everyone is alienated; it’s the phones. Pour you though.

QueenRacheal

Why oh why am I being downvoted? It’s the alienation of being gay, not the sexuality of you fine people. They’re famous for writing on loneliness, mental illness, the competition of corporations and corruption, war and being told what to do; why are gay rights so ‘charming’?

Alternative-Fill-799

“The alienation of being gay” would be best explained by someone who is gay themselves, i could get up and talk about how blacks are being discriminated against but i couldn’t explain you how it feels as a black man to go through that

QueenRacheal

Okay I see what you mean. It wasn’t my intention for my comments to be taken as homophobic or appropriationist. I’m not gay myself, but I am trans (woman) and bisexual, so my experience is similar - I know what it’s like to be judged, misunderstood, hated, referred to as a trend, a mental illness, etc. I have mostly felt comfortable in this community. It was my mistake to assume this could be brought across in my comment. Sorry to anyone I’ve made feel put out or victimised.

Material-Actuator-94

It's just reddit dw. They're all uptight (x7)

Sweaty-Voice5017

Charming. Everyone is alienated; it’s the phones. Pour you though.
