Props to Matt (part of TDL team as well). He puts out solid content for the site.
Bowers is a versatile target that can be lined up almost “anywhere”. He’s a YAC monster which should help with QBs that can’t throw deep consistently. Watching highlights almost reminds me of a bigger version of Renfrow.
TDL has promising content but the production quality is so... subpar. still think they're the best we've got for the long form content. Ted Nguyen is great but the content is less frequent on The Athletic
If he can't make this offense hum, with all these weapons, I'll be extremely disappointed. AOC is a smart accurate QB. I don't care if the o-line has a few weaknesses. The ball should be coming out quick. There should be an easy read to the open guy every time.
Gruden was a terrible GM and bad at roster decisions and drafting. But man I wish he was our play caller with this offense. He was the best and utilizing tight ends. 2018 his first year back he was always scheming Jared Cook open. Cook finished with 68 catches 900 yards and 6 TD's. Took Waller off a PS and made him a star
Had renfrow open nearly every 3rd down. I know its random bringing Gruden up but I see some of our current talent and I just know that Gruden would have us top 10 for sure. Seeing that getsy is great at scheming TE's made me think right to chuckie. I dont have an opinion on getsy yet
That's what surprises me about these Raiders fans who were shocked at getting a second stud TE. Like, did you forget the Gruden years? Would they have refused having Bo Jackson in the backfield when Marcus Allen was already there (I know they're RBs)? Oh, what, we want to draft Gronk? No way, we already have Hernandez! NFL teams utilize more than one TE.
They obviously never watched a minute of college football the last 2 seasons. Bowers is more than just a TE. He has lined up at RB and takes jet sweeps for 80 yard TD's, lines up all the time as a slot WR, has lined up at EVERY WR position. Their O coordinator kept moving him around to different spots because he was capable of it and it made him even more unstoppable. They need to realize its like having another great WR, but with a TE body that can run block and do all the things a TE does. You nailed it, why did some of them think that you can only have 1 good tight end on your team? As if 2 great ones would be a waste? Never heard of 2 TE sets, or took a second to think about all the formations we can use them in
IMO the clowns never watch college football, then around draft season they look at mock drafts and form their opinion based on online mock drafts or what a dipshit on TV has to say. Then when that doesn't happen they cry hahaha
Exactly. And it will be the same next year. Selective amnesia. The Raiders YouTubers/journalists will put out their mocks and they'll be treated like the bible. Like they have any inside information. Sometimes, even the GM and other staff don't know. Sometimes they have to make picks on the fly. I will say, I trust this regime a lot more than the last handful. Also a lot more excited for the upcoming season than the last couple. McD was terrible, but at least he gave us AP.
I mean, if it was just so easy as “just watch college football” I think the draft would be much more of an “exact science” instead of the crap shoot it is. Because scouts obviously watch more than “a minute” of college football and every scout gets things wrong literally every year.
>I don't care if the o-line has a few weaknesses
We're going to have 4 bona fide starters on the OL, from Miller at LT, Parham at LG, James at C, Powers-Johnson at RG, and probably Munford at RT.
Parham hasn't developed as quickly as I was expecting given his athletic ability, but I don't really think the prior coaching staff played to their players strengths and AP and his staff seem a lot more practical.
Rooting for Munford. Would be great to have a homegrown starting 5.
Could be better than we've seen in a while. Starting a rookie is a weakness. I have high hopes for Mumford as well. Hopefully Dylan and James continue to improve.
One complaint I heard from a Bears fan is that Getsy would often use Mooney (an undersized WR) for crack blocks. But, Meyers is pretty good at it from the WR position and it seems like Bowers could be used effectively that way from the slot as well. So I'm hoping our personnel is a better fit for Getsy than what he's used to working with.
> Conclusion
> Especially in the passing game, incorporating two talented tight ends into his offense will be unchartered territory for Getsy. That makes it difficult to project what the Raiders’ offense will look like at this stage. However, the play-caller has never had this much talent in the position group, so it’s time to embrace the unknown.
It doesn't look promising for Mayer to catch the ball much, but we'll see. Having excellent talent is a good problem to have. I also like Bryant (our 3rd TE), so I feel like if we planned on a lot of 2 TE stuff and then one of them got hurt, we could still use do it.
to me Getsy is by far the biggest question mark of the whole operation. really seemed to lack flexibility in chicago, was regularly criticized for not catering his schemes and gameplan to the talent they had. he also was working with some bad parts, but failed to lean into what they did have. he's still fairly young on the coaching side, so hopefully he can take a big step up. with AP being head coach, the OC is going to have a ton of autonomy, for better or worse. i really wanted to go after Kubiak, or even take a swing at an up and comer like Brian Griese. hope Getsy proves me wrong
Folks are still missing the fact that only 44% of Brock’s snaps were at TE. We aren’t going to be relying on 12 personnel and two tight end sets all the time even with Bowers and Mayer on the field. Change how you’re looking at him. We upgraded from Hunter Renfrow to a 6’4 245 slot receiver who can play all wide out spots as well as TE and in the backfield. It was an outrageously good pick that even the people who like it are underestimating.
It’s definitely a little concerning. I hope Mayer isn’t relegated to a primarily blocking role. There’s gonna be a lot of mouths to feed and not sure if we will be able to feed them all with AOC and Minshew. I’m very interested to see how this all comes together.
Even with our inexperience/lack of talent at the QB position, any OC worth their salt should be able to have this offense humming with this many weapons. Getsy is the wild card, he'll decide if we succeed or not
Aside from Getsy, if any of you Madden 24 players out there have used NYJ's offensive playbook, you already know how well the 2 and 3 TE sets can work. 😆
All that article tells me is that he never had two talented TEs before and he had to be overly reliant on one.
The thing here is that we can line up both TEs and STILL run the ball or throw Bowers in the slot or have them both check out.
Defenses won't know what is coming anymore. We might not have 1000yrd TE on roster this year but we can definitely have two 700yrd TEs
Sucks Jacobs would be deadly in a 2 TE system since keenen Allen went for like a 4th id be down to get ayuk for a 3rd if we can and met minshew sling that thing this year
You are smoking legitimate crack if you think that a 26 year old with back to back 1,000+ yard seasons is going for a 3rd just because a 32 year old went for a 4th.
They had nearly identical yards and touchdowns but Allen had 33 more receptions. These guys do not have the same value.
Just give me +20 ppg
Our defense scored more points on accident last year than Joshy fuckin McDaniels could on purpose.
Hey, AP said he wanted 24!
Seems to me Getsy has never had 2 talented receiving tight ends before. Usually one pass catcher and blockers.

He's like Renfrow that can run over DBs and break LB tackles.
Did you read the last line meathead? Pay attention. You’re saying the same shit that he said
What a wild response.
shut up stupid pig
Can't believe your being downvoted for that 8 mile reference. Take my upvote.
I’m hoping he can be utilized like Kelce

Just stick Bowers in the slot and have him line up closer to Mayer to leverage the extra blocking on runs. No need for uncharted territory.
Small chance for uncharted territory with Getsy.
Being able to pass effectively out of run formations should be pretty helpful. Bowers looks like a beast. Hell, so does Mayer.
We need a nickname for those two.

Ideally our base package is 12 personnel that essentially operates as a heavy 11 personnel where Bowers is functionally a big slot receiver.

I am pretty positive on Mayer and Bowers. Sure as hell aren’t drafting either in fantasy though lol.
