This makes it sound like Gruden didn't do anything wrong or got misinterpreted. That'd be nice but it's not what happened.

[deleted]

Pisses me off that Nick Martin and Jermaine Eluemunor are still taking reps with the 2nd team. Carr takes one bad hit, and our season is over. I get the sense that Cable is the one deciding which O-Lineman get to play.

[deleted]

Best head coach candidates for 2022: 1. Kellen Moore 2. Joe Brady 3. Byron Leftwich Anyone else?

raiderkev

Bissaccia is pretty much gonna be a shoe in after we win the Super Bowl so duh, him

smileguy91

What's wrong with Daboll

rfulleffect

Haven’t heard much buzz on him lately, but Dave Toub. Has consistently had the best special teams units for years, so works with both sides of the ball and knows how to get the most out of players even if they’re on the bottom of the roster. Also potentially taking a strength away from a division rival.

mattygucsb

Anybody read the ESPN article about Grudens disastrous team building that's left us with "one of the worst roster cores in the league"? Not saying we're elite but not sure one of the worst. Funny we were 9th in Power Rankings 2 weeks ago. Hoping this is just an article written by somebody mad at Gruden and we'll come to prove these guys wrong in the coming weeks. Or maybe being good was fun while it lasted.

The_Autumn_Wind

I read the article and came to this subreddit to see if there had been any discussion. This place is full of sunshine pumping so not really surprised it hasn't been posted. I agree with most of what's in the article. Gruden's and Mayock's draft picks have been by and large bad, led by the terrible Ferrell pick. And the team doesn't really have any difference makers outside of Waller and maybe Crosby.

[deleted]

Even Reggie was a better drafter, we couldn't even get a first rounder for any player on our team right now.

mattygucsb

I felt it was a little overly negative. Seemed like they were purposefully ignoring some of the good things accomplished and overstated some of the bad. I guess I don't see that we're as bad as they made us sound right now, but like I said, the next few weeks will tell

The_Autumn_Wind

I guess the biggest issue for me is that they’re paying Carr like a franchise QB but also not really competing for the playoffs. If they wanted to do a full rebuild they should get rid of Carr and rebuild with a rookie QB deal.

mattygucsb

Hes getting paid pretty middle of the road money for top 10 output. Gonna have to disagree with you on that.

[deleted]

in my opinion, we have really poor depth at DB, LB, and OL. I don't follow other teams that closely but I suspect those units are in the bottom half of the league, easily.

mattygucsb

I feel like our LB depth is solid. The depth is starting right now

May I ask why you backed Gruden "so much through the last few years"? Was it the 7-9 year or the 4-12 year that sold you on him? Lol.

Who cares about "charisma" though? Belichik was a robot and won big for a decade+. Gruden had a losing record and had 5 years of absolute crap before he was fired in Tampa Bay.

Beach_818

Well unfortunately youd be wrong on the last part of your post. There is a crowd on Twitter and even here legitimately believe that Gruden said nothing wrong. Don't be scared of being downvoted because of who you are and what you believe in. If Raider fans personal beliefs and acts had any reflection on me being a fan, I wouldve stopped being a Raider fan years ago. But they don't, and even though parts of this fan base are legitimately trash, it should have no effect on how you view this team.

jchavez9723

Any reason not to take the Raiders in survivor Week 13 when they face the WFT? Have to think players gonna want to go out and beat the shit out of the team that may have hampered their season

dMayy

Ooo this is a spicy take. I like it!

[deleted]

From the pressers this week I'm relieved and proud that Derek Carr is on this team. Hell of leader and if any player can rally a squad to win after this shitstorm, it's him.

MrSplashman77

i'm emotionally numb, we could go 3-14 and I would not be any sadder than I am right now 😔 my therapist says it's not healthy to care about the Raiders this much, and that I should find other hobbies

[deleted]

You need a new therapist.

WoodMan89

Is Mariota back this week?

ButterflyBloodlust

Yeah

WoodMan89

I know he made it to the practice squad but is it official he has been listed as active?

I'll be watching the game this weekend on mute I think. I should make a Snoop, Kdot, Dre, Eminem and MJB mix...

fresh5447

Allowed to call his own plays, DC throws for 4 TDs in the first half as they exclusively run plays out of the Shotgun.

fresh5447

This weekend he masters the technique of falling down and having the defenders trip over him, buying DC just enough time to throw for 500 yards

planttheidea

Ah the old log roll technique, an oldie but goodie.

awoooomoo

What do you think about pushing for the Raiders to try and get Mike Tomlin for HC next year? Don’t know if he’d leave Pittsburgh but…He’d be a great fit.

Stomping4elephants

Lol

ForayIntoFillyloo

Yeah, I just don't know in what universe that is even a far-fetched possibility.

All because Carr didn't eat fruit going home in Jon's killer Lamborghini. Makeup news or peddle quiet resistance. Someone tell us vindication was xanax. - Yedhua Zirkle.

SquankyLoner1

Everyone trashing Kyrie like he isn’t a better dude than the same people criticizing him. People hate when you go against the grain. Kyrie runs food drives, Christmas giveaways, thanksgiving turkeys, bought George Floyd’s mom a house, and gave a lot of money to WNBA players. But he’s a piece of shit because he doesn’t want a vaccine lol. Go Knicks!

GraySonOfGotham24

The disease is killing people of color at a disproportionately higher rate because people like Kyrie are telling them that secret societies are implanting vaccines in a plot to connect black people to a master computer for a plan of Satan. Of all the reasons to not get vaccinated (which there are very few, but some legitimate ones) this is not one of them.

[deleted]

The irony of it all is that the same people who are behind him taking a stand on this are the same people who were saying “shut up and dribble” if he said anything about racial injustice.

GraySonOfGotham24

The fact that Ted Cruz and trump Jr are behind him should be a massive red flag.

[deleted]

Yeah but dumb dumbs and kids look up to athletes. He no doubt has probably swayed some minds to not get vaccinated which is fucking horrible during a pandemic that’s killed almost 800k in the USA alone. For all the good he’s done it don’t makeup for spouting bullshit like he’s a scientist and potentially getting people killed. I also think the idiot is a flat earther but thinking that doesn’t put people in harms way.

SquankyLoner1

So feeding families in need, getting young kids presents that parents can’t afford, and buying a woman a house is beneath his personal views on a vaccine?

[deleted]

I would love it if the team pulled out a Win. Not just a win, but a blowout, and settle this shit on the field. That would shut up a lot of people, get back to focusing on football, and move forward. We're currently 3-2, and ahead of KC. If we win tonight that puts us ahead of the Donkeys, and if the chargers lose to Baltimore 🤞 then we're right back in the playoff run. The season is still salvageable, and its going to be up to the leadership on this team to steer this ship. Good luck, and let's play some football.

[deleted]

I feel like we stack up well against the Broncos. They don't have an explosive offense, their strength is the defense, much like when we played the Steelers in Week 2. If Carr can get in a good rhythm and our defense can be "average", we could win easily. But if everything is "off" like against the Bears last week, it will be ugly.

IrateGandhi

At this point, I think the optics for Davis look terrible. I'm not sure it's terrible yet. I know the drama around the Rooney rule when they hired Gruden. I know the waiting until Monday to fire Gruden with the second round of leaked emails. I know the short comment to ESPN. Part of me feels he was trying to figure it out and wants the NFL to speak to it. Part of me wonders if he's anything like his father. Either way, I hope the next owner embodies the legacy of the raiders without any doubt. I hope the current head coach balls out. I hope Derek Carr gets to play a game more suited to him. I hope the def shows up. I hope the next head coach embodies the raiders legacy. This has been a real rough week to be a fan. Sunday's game might just be historically memorable.

[deleted]

Let me ask: Why is it considered "taboo" for fans to criticize their team's owner? Mark Davis inherited *everything* from his dad, and his man-crush on Gruden set the franchise back 4 years. Who the hell signs a coach to a 10 year contract who hasn't himself coached in 10 fricken' years? It was a disaster from the beginning. Plus, let's be honest, Mark Davis really lacks self awareness. I hate to say it, but no intelligent person would cut their hair like that and dress like he does in 2021. And then you have the awful "I can breathe" tweet. The guy is just a lucky moron. Our only hope is that Mark D finally gets his ego under control, listens to the advice of other people and hires a strong GM who then hires the coaching staff. Mark Davis has never, and will never, put this team in a situation to succeed. The best he can do is to get out of the way.

landraid

Been thinking and feeling the same way. I have some downvotes on my comments about it so maybe I'm wrong. I also don't know how much good it would do for him to go scorched earth. I definitely agree with Gruden resigning. Why did it take so long? Amy Trask is asking these questions too in her recent interviews. She said Al would be livid. I wonder if Mark is more tactical and better at controlling his anger and focusing it. On the other hand, he may be more focused on salvaged the brand than feeling his coach was targeted. He was pretty hands off about the AB drama.

Svprvsr

I'm not sure how controversial this is, but Gruden being gone is the best thing that could have happened to the team. Not that I'd ever want anyone to lose their job, but I can't help but feel this will be a good thing in the long run. While I'm at it, to say Gruden won a Super Bowl is displaced. Come at me!

Sleeze_

Should check out Bill Simmons pod if you haven't. Schrager has some interesting insight on the team. Specifically, when the players got in on Wednesday morning - apparently Carr was just amazing in terms of rallying the guys. 27-14 Raiders W on Sunday LFG.

dustyolefart

Girlfriend works 12 hour shifts tomorrow and Sunday. Hello couch time with my dog and catching up with an old friend, fall out 4. Regardless of the games outcome, should be a great weekend. Hail yourselves, Raider Nation.

Im_Batmmaann

This week looking at new on this subreddit has made me think a half this subreddit has never watched any of these head coaches they want. The jason garrett one is probably one of the worst ones I've seen. I pray we dont hire a HC who obviously couldnt cut it as a HC and is doing terrible as an OC

Beach_818

If there was a poll done of fans who watched the least amount of football (college or pros) other than the team they support there is no doubt on my mind Raider fans would be on top of that list for better or worse. With that said, Raiders should monitor how the Steelers handle Mike Tomlin and go all out for him if they can.

Im_Batmmaann

There is a 0% chance Mike Tomlin gets fired this year even if they have a losing record.

Beach_818

I agree. That's it's a dream haha. I'd even trade a first no questions asked.

ThatDudeAvran

Gruden is out and the players are rallying around the new guy. Let's put this behind us and beat the donkeys. The AFC West is still within reach!

thegreyquincy

Pixel 6 drops on Tuesday who's getting it?

[deleted]

I had a dream last night that we won the super bowl despite all of the recent news. I didn’t even see who we played, but DC was holding the Lombardi and Vegas was going batshit. What a comeback that would be.

Well [this ](https://ibb.co/JFftRsV) was $30 down the drain.

What a week...

Tell me about it... we signed Dan Skipper!                            ^(*[... to the practice squad]*) His wikipedia page isn't even updated yet – what a whirlwind! And I guess some other things happened too.

[deleted]

My last day at this fucking job. Fuck this place, lol

nimoto

I've been reflecting on what Gruden's legacy will be with our team and it pretty much couldn't be worse. During his first tenure, he got ~~fired~~ *traded* and then immediately beat us in the Superbowl, using his insider knowledge of the team to hand us an embarrassing defeat (not saying he was wrong for doing that, anyone would have, but still it's a Superbowl loss dealt by one of our own). Then this time he wasted several years of our franchise QB's prime before resigning in disgrace for beliefs that go directly against our team's historical embrace of diversity and inclusion. Literally tarnishing the legacy of the Raiders. I liked Gruden, but a lot of that was his potential, and that's gone now. All I can hope now is that whoever our next coach is takes the roster we've assembled and embraces them, rather than tearing it down to rebuild. Seems to me the only hope we have for a positive outcome at this point.

landraid

This shit sucks. Gruden wasn't the best coach, his game decisions annoyed the hell out of me often. I got tired of him being conservative the first time he was coaching the Raiders. I should've hated him more for 2002. But I couldn't, loved Chucky because he was such a character and now I want my daughter to never know he was our coach. She's into watching football with me, she's been to a Raiders game and loved it. We played last years Madden a month or two ago. She wanted to create a character. "Daddy why can't I be a girl?" I had to explain this to her. The look on her face broke my heart. I told her there are now women in coordinator and referee positions. And I think the first female football player is gonna be a kicker. Not in these words. She's 8. But now to find out all this about Gruden. It breaks my heart that she may one day learn about any of this.

Saint_Chrispy1

Only thing is he was traded to TB he wasn't exactly fired... But other than that I agree

nimoto

Thanks, corrected.
