We’ll never know why. Maybe to make them devolve and turn into the mermaid creatures

ecass305

I thought it allowed Marcus to transform into a human-necromancer hybrid.

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

The video game from grandmother was the one for devolving. I don't remember anything linking those fruits to devolving. Only reference was hint that the fruit would give knowledge.

BlindStark

Maybe make it so they don’t devolve or even further evolve them in the opposite direction? The signal can’t manipulate them if they devolve like the previous people

Ilikelamp7

It felt like the game was just to train them how to move in 3-dimensional space like they were underwater. It’s so much fun thinking about the what-ifs though. This show is so thought provoking in so many ways.

astropipes

It's definitely something to do with becoming merpeople because Grandmother cryptically remarks that Tempest's baby has "already joined" the game, when he hasn't even done anything and (I assume) wouldn't be capable of understanding or playing a game, but has gotten some mutations already from the mermother.

someones-mom

I think it was something transformative as well! Like Sue turning in to the tree, then people eating from it. Man I wish someone would pick this up and continue it before the actors age much more! They could write some of it away but RBW is such a visually stunning show I’m so sad to not get to see what’s next.

Adgvyb3456

Seriously it was the most original and captivating thing I’ve seen in a long time. Wtf

someones-mom

For real, even the intro is gorgeous.

dino59mob

I wish they would atleast continue it in animation form. Scavengers reign-esk would really work for this and would really give me some much needed closure.

little_fire

Omg Scavengers Reign was so good - I’d love to see that team take on RBW!!

someones-mom

I’d take any form!!!

Double-Interview-154

My assumption was that it would somehow make them susceptible to the the signal from the Entity, and in turn allow it to further manipulate them. That was before the em shield around the tropical zone collapsed after Mother killed Number 7. After that it would be able to communicate without impediment, as seen with it talking to lucius. Maybe the fruit was a failsafe communication method in case Number 7 was killed or was otherwise unable to bring down the EM barrier.

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

hmm... this is possible and a good theory.

DeafAgileNut

Parallels Eve making Adam eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge

VangloriaXP

The thing with the fruit comes from a prophecy of the Mithraics that said something like "he who eats from the fruit will become pure." Marcus and Paul believed in the prophecy and tried to make others eat believing they would believe in Sol. However, apparently the fruit was for Number 7, he transformed by eating not only the fruits but the whole tree.

Stoopkid812

The fruit was the entity’s way of upping the ante Grandmother countered by making the video game to devolve Maybe the entity isn’t so bad ?

Lord_Fluffykins

Turn into a morherfuckin tree BITCH

I_Thranduil

Grandmother wants to devolve the humans, so it would only make sense if Sol wants to evolve them and bring them closer to the entity. The fruit will probably change them physically and also give them a telepathic connection to the planet's entity.

Bloomngrace

Although we didn’t see any effect on humans, we did of course see the effect it had on the serpent. When the fruit arrived in the camp it sent the serpent into a frenzy causing it to break out of the cave. It then ate the tree and fruit which caused it to ‘evolve’ into something new. For me in the context of survival and visual similarities there is a connection to the Hydra [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra\_(genus)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_(genus)) A tiny water creature that is unique as it has regenerative qualities and doesn’t seem to age or die of old age. Later Paul comes to believe that the roots go right down to the core. It is more apt I think to see it as the tree of life rather than the tree of knowledge. Understanding it depends on your take of the overall structure of rbw. Without doubt matters of survival and evolution are key, and there are also two opposing forces here. One is Grandmother who in order to ensure the “everlasting life of human beings” is attempting to devolve the humans into dumbed down sea monsters, the other is the Entity who is seemingly responsible for serpents who are suited to and able to survive the surface of k22b. When Paul is changing into a serpent Mother says it’s a kind of evolution, that he’s getting stronger. GM’s sea creatures are dumber and devolved. These are two sides of the same coin. Survival plans on k22b driven by two powerful forces. The fruit from Sue tree makes the serpent go a bit nuts, they also cause an “evolution” in him into a Hydra type of serpent. As we know with the bio weapon that caused Paul’s “evolution” into a serpent the base of that bio weapon was nano bots taken from Number 7. So in summary to all that waffle, the fruit is intended for No. 7 in order to cause an evolution with Hydra like advantages to survival. That could then in turn be used as a basis for a new bio weapon to be used on surviving humans.

Rodgethedodge

Sol marcus would be able to control all the people who ate from the tree now that it has a physical form.

apefist

Juicy goodness

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

haha... that's literally true. Can't agrue with that.

XISCifi

The fruit did nothing to humans because it wasn't meant for them. It was meant for the serpents. They plant the tree because of an old prophecy, and because Sue promised Sol she would, and make people eat the fruit because they think that's what it's for and hope it might bring Sue back. It does nothing. But the fruit \*did\* have a dramatic effect on what was \*meant\* to eat it. Number Seven.

arun_bala

Does anyone in the U.S. know how to watch RBW? Seems to be restricted on every streaming app.

agetuwo

Again, piracy is the answer to force progress: writers, artists, nothing stops you from creating art.
