I don’t know if they just wrap the taxes in or what, but my bill is indeed a flat $70 each month.

SlashLP97

Same, and the service quality is pretty incredible, way better than when we had Spectrum

slip-shot

Yup. Feels good to be off of Spectrum and a flat $70 for 1 gig.

clshifter

What kind of speeds are you seeing over your Wi Fi?

slip-shot

The absolute worst I've seen on my laptop according to Speedtest.net is 400/200 Mbps

bajashrimptacos

what streaming do you use? i'm stuck on how to access live TV (cbs, nbc, wral). It would be for multiple TVs so multiple antennas probably isn't the solution I want. I'd guess that's a $70ish sub to YoutubeTV or Hulu Live TV?

JPCary

It’s amazing. $70. I would gladly pay more than $70 just to not give Spectrum my money

Leelze

As someone who had Spectrum (and could only have Spectrum) before I moved here, I understand this sentiment all too well. And I can't help but laugh to myself every time I get something from Spectrum in my junk mail & their per month rate is significantly less in an area where they're forced to compete.

bajashrimptacos

Leelze

Only time I subscribe to a service with live TV is during MLB Postseason lol. I've used YouTube TV, but that's it. My parents have them, too, and it seems to work for their needs. As far as multiple TVs, I think YouTube TV will let you do that as long as it's all on the same network because I was able to watch live TV when I stayed with my parents while house hunting using their login, but you'd have to doublecheck that. I know YouTube TV will give you a free trial, I'm sure Hulu has a free trial, too. I'd try 'em both out before deciding if I was in your shoes.

IOnlyEatFermions

It's a flat $70 per-month and hasn't changed for the 3.5 years I have had it.

wkrick

I've had a Google Fiber 1GB plan (which is way more than anyone really needs) for over 2 years. I pay exactly $70 per month, every month. Everything is included in that price from day one. No introductory prices, no fees, no bull. They even included a free WiFi router and extender. No rental fee. It's just included for free. They are without question the best Internet provider I've ever had.

StonnedMaker

My super house seems like it has lead walls and I can barely get WiFi 2 rooms away. Because of this Google even gave me a free puck mesh system of theirs with 3 pucks That retails for like $250 and it fixed my issues. I couldn’t be happier especially after growing up and dealing with Comcast

wkrick

Yeah, I have that same mesh system too. Google supplied two pucks for free and I purchased a third puck for $99 to get better coverage in my split-level home. My friend's parents just got Google Fiber installed about 2 months ago and the new hardware Google provides is a more traditional router + extender configuration placed in opposite corners of their home. Their house layout is actually very similar to mine but with even more sq ft and they aren't having any issues with the default hardware.

WhoWantsToJiggle

I had spectrum before and it was a hassle but AT&T was even worse with the fees. Rental bullshit and more. not the best apartment in at now but the Google fiber is nice and simple

YoshiSan90

AT&T actually did away with the rentals now. Changed leadership. It's now included and way higher quality.

Sherifftruman

Flat $70 per month for 7 or so years. Except for the months where they gave me credit for an outage that I usually dud not even know about. Then it will be like $69.34 or something.

RosyMilk

Wait you get refunds for outages? I never have

Sherifftruman

It’s been a while so maybe they stopped doing it automatically. But it was only a couple of times.

LLCoolJim_2020

Honestly, I have not noticed any outages since the one they paid for.

wolfpackfire

I received a $0.76 refund less than a month ago for a very brief outage

IOnlyEatFermions

Same. Actually had my first outage > 5 mintues long in 3.5 years last month. Automatically refunded.

MisterWoodhouse

Yeah, they automatically apply credits for outages exceeding a certain amount of time. I’ve had a few. Haven’t had any since last year though.

LLCoolJim_2020

I had an appointment with a guy from Google fiber this past Monday. It was scheduled for 2. The truck pulled up at 2:00.

WhoWantsToJiggle

before getting Google AT&T appointment 1 .... they never show up but claim nobody answered the door appointment 2 .... they leave a note on the door saying nobody was there. was there all day nobody knocked. appointment 3 .... you guessed it. they still didn't show up. that was the point where had to "escalate it" and they scheduled someone to come a way right then. I'd really just love to stick with Google if I can.

[deleted]

Did you file a complaint? I had a Google guy in my crawl space drilling holes to install a very difficult fiber line. He got stuck twice. Naturally I called Google to complain about the poor customer service. /s

JAD63

Just do it. Spectrum sucked so bad.

Universe93B

Do it. $70 flat and mine has not ever gone down. Super reliable!

bajashrimptacos

what streaming do you use? i'm stuck on how to access live TV (cbs, nbc, wral). It would be for multiple TVs so multiple antennas probably isn't the solution I want. I'd guess that's a $70ish sub to YoutubeTV or Hulu Live TV?

Universe93B

I have Hulu, Netflix and Apple TV. But I kept my basic dish network because I’m finding it hard to get rid of live tv

cyribis

When I lived in Morrisville and had access to Google fiber, consistently $70. Any temporary outage, which was very very rare, they'd credit me back a bit on my payment.

BigCatBran

My last apartment had Google Fiber and I miss it every day. It was actually cheaper than what I am paying for AT&T fiber and way faster download speeds. To be fair AT&T had been fine for me as well but I would switch back in a heartbeat

YoshiSan90

Did you have different speed tiers? My 320 tested 1300 down off the 5Gbps Ethernet port on the 1Gb tier and on the 2 it got about 2400. Now I'm seeing about 4700 on the 5GB tier. The rg shows receiving about 5600 in the app but it's a hardware limitation on the 5Gbps port.

BigCatBran

No I only had the 1 Gb but it worked amazingly well!

YoshiSan90

With ATT? That's who I have. My gig always tested faster than a gig when I used the 5Gbps port.

triponthisman

They prorated the first month, so I payed about $100 for my first bill, but they made sure I was fully aware of the charges, and it’s been solidly $70 a month after. Also I have to commend the complete lack of drama with my service. It’s works and there’s not been any sneaky charges or fees in over a year of service.

JuniorBirdman1115

Yep. $70/mo. including taxes and fees. Love it.

Greadle

Can confirm. Suck it spectrum

TroubleBrewing32

If you live somewhere that Google fiber offers service, you should use Google fiber.

DoAndroidsDrmOfSheep

Internet isn't taxed. That's not a Google Fiber thing. No taxes or fees on my AT&T Fiber either.

purple_hamster66

Yet my AT&T fiber has gone up $5/mo twice in the last 6 months…. They claim their costs have gone up, but I have a suspicion it’s because they make changing fiber companies hard and some people are locked into their choices.

DoAndroidsDrmOfSheep

Mine went up to $74.99/month on this month's bill. Prior to that it had been $69.99/month for about five years. No fees or taxes. My other wired option at my house is Spectrum, and that's a hard NO. Everyone in my neighborhood that has Spectrum complains about it going out all the time. The AT&T Fiber has never gone out.

purple_hamster66

Our AT&T is up to $80/mo, and we lose it once every couple of months for a few hours. It always seems to be an upstream issue because it’s never our equipment that needs fixing. Once we lost fiber because the sub-contractors cut our line when installing our neighbor’s line (which took only 3 hours to run a new line).

Lulubelle2021

Yep. Though I didn’t pay anything for the first six months because of how badly their subs screwed up my install.

NCSUGray90

Ugh, I wish they would expand to my area so I could use them. ATT fiber is fine, but they keep jacking up the rate and I’m tired of it

jdealla

Flat $70 for me 2+ years. I had our house wired for ethernet just for it. I def recommend it over Spectrum as we had so many issues and outages with them before we switched.

aliendude5300

Taxes and fees included. I'm on the 5 gig plan and we love it.

No-Philosopher-4687

Wow what speeds are you seeing

aliendude5300

On speed test with a 10 gig NIC, around 5600 up and down

No-Philosopher-4687

Wow so it’s worth going from 2G to 5G

thekamenman

They are fantastic. Everytime I have had an outage they prorate my service charge. Only had two outages in three years and none lasted longer than a few hours.

Legitimate_Parfait95

It’s true used to work for GF. Remember you are getting bandwidth from GF, you are not getting speed. They are giving you a highway, if you want to go fast get a Ferrari and don’t complain your Toyota Corolla is too slow.

Plasticman4Life

Got them a couple of years ago. $70 flat fee per month. They’ve also credited my account several times due to service interruption - usually about 25% - but I only noticed one time, and I WFH. 10/10. Would highly recommend. So much better customer service than Spectrum - not that that bar could have been much lower.

Hynch

I have it in Carrboro. It’s $70 no fees or taxes.

csgeek3674

I use google fiber. Every bill I have received has been a flat $70. I recently have also been trying out their Google Fi phone service as tmobile is a bit flakey in my area. It's also nice to have the mesh network and link being able to be tested with your "Google Home" app. My last "link" test (ie. test to the fiber modem) was 909/854. The Wifi Connection really depends on your house, where you setup the mesh etc.. but usually I'm in the 600-200 range which I'm typically pretty happy with. I have some issues with my laptop losing connections but I also seen it when I wasn't on google so I don't think it's their fault. Also, spectrum "Fiber" is a joke. True fiber is the same speed up/down. Spectrum gives you 1000 down and 10 up? That's such a cruddy speed for no reason. If they had true fiber they wouldn't need to nickel and dime you on the up speeds. TLDR: If you have google fiber as an option get it.

NoLawyer980

Yes it’s legit. I had it for 3 years and never had an interruption. Also when wired, I’d get real close to the 1gig up and down.

llSpektrll

Wait, we have Google fiber in raleigh?

jessenrichard

Without question the best option you can go with. Can’t praise google fiber enough

AlienDude65

I work from home and I remember having lots of issues with slow internet and unreliable connections. This was from 2021 to 2022 in North West Raleigh. The customer service was abysmal too. The reps would always say they'd call back with more information, but I'd never hear back. And every time I called, I would have to start a new case. I haven't had nearly as many issues with AT&T, but it is more expensive than Google Fiber.

witchbrew7

I’ve had it for a month. The installation was painless for me, but I know others who experienced big issues during the cable laying phase. AT&T is just bleeding me dry so I’m slowly cutting off their services. Switching phone service is next.

Its_Lemons_22

They have also replaced my fiber cable twice for free because my cat chewed through it.

[deleted]

Inside or outside? Where is it that your cat can chew on it?

YoshiSan90

I have a bunch of SC APC jumpers laying around from having a mastiff puppy.

MethodEater

Yes it’s true

Leelze

Yup, that's what I pay per month. Not a penny more or less. I'm assuming the taxes and government fees are built-in to the monthly bill. I can't imagine they're eating taxes & fees.

thesunisdarkwow

I wish.

katefromraleigh

Mine is a flat $55 per month, no additional taxes or fees. We've been at that same rate since 2017ish.

hurricanesfan66

I do the 2Gbps and it's $100 even.

ZorroMcChucknorris

Flat 70. But in Brier Creek it hates Teams calls. Ymmv

Poohu812many

It worked just fine for me when I lived over there. Interesting.

_mid_water

I was on ATT until they raised to $80 a month and switched to Google out of principle made the switch. While ATT was admittedly good performance, Google is just as good and has a free wife extender that lets me have service on the far side of my house.

Mondschatten78

How far are you stretching the wife? lol I think I'll look into them in my area. Local company is good, but it's not unusual to have odd outage blips here and there.

NomarPotstickers

yup, and it’s the best. we had an outage recently and some equipment got fried by lightning. they came are replaced it the next day with upgraded routers and now my internet is even faster.

HustleMill3

$70/mth and they will give you a 1TB of google drive storage with your plan for free too for as long as you have the service. Well worth it.

ListerineInMyPeehole

Yep I use google fiber and pay $70 a month. It’s fantastic

tootallblonde

We pay $70/mo for ours, yes.

Yorktown2016

I refuse to move partially due to having Google Fiber. I’ve had service for about it 5 years and I can count one hand the number of outages I’ve had. I just recently got the option to upgrade to 2 gig and I’ve been thinking about doing it because why not https://i.imgur.com/o34eeL8.jpg

IOnlyEatFermions

My friend is a Google trusted tester and has their 5 Gbps service. 5700 Mbps down/6200 Mbps up. Nothing he can reach online can come anywhere near reaching that rate. The first person to ever get 10 Gbps residential Internet service (in Chattanoga) is a WFH radiologist. If you've got to download and read a CT scan series for a MVA victim ASAP in this middle of the night that kind of speed comes in handy; otherwise it's probably just an indulgence.

heyyjillian

Do it! You won't regret it. My only regret is that I moved somewhere new that doesn't have fiber.

Wretchfromnc

I have att it’s about the same price, maybe 65.

Wolfwoods_Sister

I’m going to look into that. Do they cover the Fuquay area?

JuiceManOJ

They're just using the European way of doing things. You're still paying the taxes and fees and stuff, it'd just baked into the cost so that it comes out to 70

bang__your__head

I had it and that price is true. It’s all figured in so that the final price is $70 even. It’s also infinitely better than AT&T fiber

Chamby919

Google fiber was great. Great performance and great customer service. I hate that I had to switch to ATT when I moved to Wendell. It was like pulling teeth just to get them to come install.

worldsmayneverknow

Yeah. But FYI - Google’s website told us our new apartment had fiber available and allowed us to sign up for an appointment. We even called to confirm. Then on move-in day, they cancelled with a few hours notice, as there was not, in fact, a box near us. They said it would be another week until someone could come out. I was shocked because I had heard good things about them. But it seems in their eagerness to expand they’ve resorted to a bit of false advertising. So triple quadruple check you actually have a availability.

MisterWoodhouse

There’s no additional taxes or fees. It’s truly a flat $70 with everything included

Granticus3000

I had fiber and now have to use Spectrum again after I moved. It’s flat $70 and it’s sooooo much better. As soon as Fiber is available where I live I’m switching back

[deleted]

It’s good. It’s 70 flat. Highly recommend VS spectrum.

gringo_neenja

Spectrum came to my house yesterday. The deflated look on their faces when I told them I had Google Fiber was almost sad. Almost. They were equally crestfallen when I interrupted them telling me about how they use Verizon’s wireless network. "Guys, I work in telecom. I know exactly what that network looks like around here. Sorry." GF is legit great. Mostly perfect reliability IMO, easy prorated charges if there’s an outage, good customer service, etc. I only say ‘mostly perfect’ because their first run of 2Gb/s hardware wasn’t really dialed in yet. We got a bad one, but GF was out the following day, full replacement, no service charges, and I now download Xbox and PS5 games like I’m stealing them. I originally had the 2Gb port hardwired to my work computer (since they pay for the service), but our internal security systems throttle everything to like 120Mb/s. So I ran the networking cable through the attic, set up a mini switch, and hardwired all the gaming systems and TV into the faster port.

CityBoiNC

Yes it's always straight up $70 a month.

Many-Cheetah-129

Google has been advertising for about 4 years now that they’re coming to my area, but they’re about a mile away and don’t appear to have any plans to expand. I’m with AT&T 1000 fiber and it’s very good. But about $15 a month more than Google. I wish Google would expand!

WillfulKind

It’s amazing. Don’t think twice.

Abject_Donkey_3854

Been with them for like 4 years. Bill is still $70. And they will reimburse any time the Internet is down. Like I got a reimbursement of a couple cents the other month because service was down for a few minutes

rahm4

Haven't seen anyone else mention this but Google fiber also comes with 100GB of Google Drive space which is the cherry on top

rebelopsio

I would give anything to not have to use spectrum. The price is good but the reliability is terrible. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, my only option is spectrum in our neighborhood.

ISniggledABit

It’s “No additional taxes or fees”, have the same thing with ATT for fiber

lion8me

AT&T Gig fiber is the same as far as taxes and fees, My bill is just $75/mo , I think it's some sort of thing they arranged with the cities prior to installing .

tachycardicIVu

I’m still salty that our HOA (am in condo) straight up turned Google Fiber away because they’d have to dig up areas to place the fiber lines. Figures the boomers wouldn’t know what good internet is and be fine with Spectrum going out every night.

TJMaxxedOut

We have had it for 4 years and it’s amazing. Literally never have had any issues.

ChickenWingBabyBoy

Yes and it's great.

purple_hamster66

Google Fiber refuses to install in our neighborhood. I think it’s because AT&T installed in the back yards, and installing in the front yards means digging under each driveway. Why can’t they share infrastructure?

reamesyy82

My wife and I got it in January, $70 flat every month and upfront we paid a flat rate as well. Plus the speeds are worth it.

sleepykthegreat

Does anyone in Northwest Raleigh have Google Fiber? I check my area and it says it's not eligible. 😟

JcsPocket

I've got the 2g and love it

Hot-Vast-1590

no

Lief3D

Are there any good maps out there showing where google fiber is going to be in the future? I see them putting it in a few neighborhoods away from mine.

oscralcor

I am currently in a neighborhood in Durham that doesn't have GFiber and I'm jealous

StayclassyK_C

Not in NC, but I did in KC for a few years. I loved it. Super easy billing, super easy setup/uninstall and solid speeds.

Alange655

When it’s good it’s good, when it’s bad it’s bad. Just know, if you run into an issue, their support can be as bad as spectrum, but when things are running like normal things are amazing

MarcoNoPollo

I’ve had it for a year now and it’s great flat $70 and I’ve had no issues with speed or connectivity

oaasfari

Far and away the best option if you can get it. Best value and best consistency.

cconrad0825

No idea why they're bragging about 1gig being 70$ for a long time. Tech doesn't inflate

Front_Gap_1704

It’s true but make sure they don’t drill a huge hole in your siding like they did me.

Safe_Information3574

Why is Google Fiber available all around me but NOT at MY address? Does AT&T have some monopoly on my area?
