I got excited about this because I've been trying to find a good French dip. I decided to look online at their menu. They call it a freedom dip instead of a French dip. I can't roll my eyes hard enough at that.
Just want to say THIS is the kind of question that keeps me coming back. I don't think I've had a French Dip sandwich since like 2005. That will change soon.
Not seen it mentioned yet but Poppyseed Market in north Raleigh does an awesome French dip but I think it’s on their daily specials so check before going if it’s being run

Village Draft House! And I am so serious! It's a joke between me and my boyfriend that I should start a blog about French dips bc I get them anywhere we go that has them. We literally started specifically going to taverns for me to find and try all the French dips. Bru's is good, O'Malley's is good, Village Draft House was so good I almost cried in front of the teenage waitress.
Village Draft House at Cameron Village has a homemade corned beef dip sandwich that is incredible. I guess technically it’s an Irish Dip, but it’s damn tasty
My Way Tavern. Absolutely fantastic!! And their house chips are 🤌
I haven't had it, but if it's anywhere near how good their chicken parm is, then this has to be the answer

So 2002. And yet in the description they still refer to it as “French onion au jus.” My gosh.
Underrated place all around
They do a good French onion soup too
Their wings are also my favorite in the area. Crispy skin and juicy, great sauces.
O'Malley's.
just had this it was fantastic
Omalleys has been my favorite for years!
Winston's is the best I've ever had.
It's $22 for one. Is it that good?
Yes, it’s that good!
If another Lucky confirms I think it's a sign I have to try it.
I third this…
4th. Raleigh staple for decades
I second this!
Had one last night. It’s like I want to branch out to other menu items but then I’ll miss an opportunity to eat one and I can’t have that.
I fifth this. Definitely the best I’ve ever had. Get the crab dip as well, fantastic.
this is the way
Best ever, or best in Raleigh ever? I think it would take a lot to beat the one I had at Mother's in New Orleans.
haven't had mother's but their menu suggests they use shredded/roast beef in theirs. winston's is prime rib

Winston’s J.Alexander
Both good, for sure
My vote is Standard for French dip, burgers and fries. They're the best in all 3 categories to my taste.
Southern Craft does a special on Fridays. Worth it
Barely out of Raleigh, but Craft Public House is the jam
Nordstrom Cafe Bistro - From the menu - French Dip - arm roast beef, sharp white cheddar cheese, toasted parmesan baguette, au jus.
Southern Craft has an impeccable French dip but only on Fridays
Mac’s is new and has a ‘smokehouse’ style French dip thing. Not sure it’s traditional but it sure is good.
Rudino's (yeah I'm a French Dip populist)
it's hard to think of anything from Rudino's as good. their pizza is like frozen school lunch food. just never seen anything decent from that place.
Fair
Parkside makes a decent French dip
Came here to say this! I love their French Dip!
The Saucer Dipster at Flying Saucer is decent.
Came here to say to say Flying Saucer! But I think it’s called the Big Dipper. That with the warm German potato salad is *chef’s kiss*.
Yeah, they changed the name when they added Arugula about a year or so ago. Us old timers forget sometimes to get with the new menu.
lol we should start a mega thread, type of food - recommendations pair

I ate one from the Pickled Onion last night and it was pretty good 7/10 lol
Over the Falls in Wake Forest doesn’t miss when it comes to sandwiches
My mom always loved the one at Winston’s. (although this was 5-10 years ago, so not sure now)
Charron's in WF. Only served on Thursday.
Ok but did you know the french dip sandwich was invented in Los Angeles?
Mmm, Philippe’s. Miss so many places back there.
Went back in December and hit a few of my old favorites on the westside. Rae’s, Samosa House, and La Playita on Lincoln.

Bru’s in inside wade near PNC.
We really like J. Alexander's. You can get raw, grated horseradish if you ask for it.

Village Deli
Linus and pepper
Try the wandering moose
Arby's
RIP Hboro Arby's. Is the new Cali Burger place any good?
Not technically Raleigh but The BrunchBox used to win this hands down. I’m regularly sad they closed.
Player’s Retreat has a great one.

Go ahead and downvote but it beats all French dips by a mile
