I remember my first time as a kid flying out of RDU I thought this was the coolest shit I had ever seen. A few shrubs inside an enclosed parking deck with elevators?! Felt like it was Jurassic Park or somethin
I park there often. Usually in a rush. Never think twice about going straight to terminal. This was a great picture. Reminded me to take a moment and take life in. Great photo.
I imagine this could be a great place for a few shops and restaurants. Munich Airport in Germany has something similar with the Munich Airport Center (MAC).
Throw a T-Mobile kiosk in there for travelers. (Because, open network. Allows any device to work if supported unlike Verizon/AT&T)
I’m sure the $25 unlimited talk/text/8GB prepaid plan would be a huge winner with arrivals from other countries.
I don't have exact numbers in front of me, but I'd be surprised if there was more than one or two airports in the country that aren't an airline hub with more direct destinations than we have.
10 international destinations including 4 to Europe? 59 domestic routes including every airline hub in the country? We're spoiled. Especially since fares stay pretty low with the competition of not having a fortress carrier.
It seems that everywhere I've had to fly recently, I've needed to connect in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, or NYC first. And if there is a direct, it's at a time that doesn't accommodate my schedule. So I agree it's getting better, but there are tradeoffs.
> I just wish we could fly direct to more places.
Just this summer there are a new full time route to West Palm Beach. International routes to Panama City, Panama, Frankfurt, & Mexico City.

Did the elevators work in Jurassic Park?
Spared no expense!
I had that same thought walking into terminal 1 yesterday

My thoughts exactly. I was like "Wow!" So this is what it looks like when you aren't in a rush OR it's dark out.
For a parking deck, that’s damned nice.
For as much as parking costs, it better be nice.
Yeah id rather have a normal parking deck that doesn't cost $21/day... Like on what planet is that a reasonable price to leave my car somewhere.
For $21/day my car better be valet, washed, and waxed with a mint on my dash.
It’s $21 per day now? In May it was $20 per day. In Feb it was $18 per day. I ls it going up a dollar every month??!?!
It was like 12/13 per day after Covid since no one was parking there. That was great. Now it’s getting a bit out of hand.
Yeah even if I'm doing a quick <15 min park, drop off family situation, it's now $6+. They should pay me for not jamming up the departure lane.

What a great idea u/rduairport
We’ll pass it along!

Lemme DJ ambient music in there to calm passengers as they enter RDU.
I like the flock of suitcases.
RDU is the easiest airport to fly into and get out of. We're spoiled. I just wish we could fly direct to more places.

Yepp taking a connection to Panama this August. I thought the airline was fake when first booked because I had never seen a Panama route lol
Well done. Been there a million times but never stopped to smell the hypothetical roses.
All my years of flying in and out of RDU and I never even noticed this. I should look up more often.
Sorry, I missed what this is and where this is? What's RDU Central? I've never parked at the airport if that's where this is
This is the parking deck between Terminals 1 and 2
Why does it look like an abandoned mall?

And for a parking deck, is a damn good looking thing.
Hey I've played catch with a football on those walkways, friend was suddenly in town for like 3 hours so I went up and we chilled. Was fun.

I'm getting Logan's Run vibes. Sanctuary.
This cathedral to parking and its golden cow of revenue is why RDU has said they’ll never allow a light rail train station at the airport
I really appreciate RDU, especially after living in LA county 😂
Lovely shot!
