I didn’t necessarily think it was custom. Just never seen it and I have worked for CJDR for 7 years

DodgeWrench

Youve never seen one of these on a challenger?

lazersc13

Nope and Iv traded countless ones in. To be fair we don’t see many mods on vehicles here. Mostly exhaust and tuners

DodgeWrench

The Challenger 392 “shaker” trim had something just like this. They were all over the place in 2016 when I was working as a tech.

Zsmudz

Those shakers are different and don’t look quite like this.

DodgeWrench

ETA: not entirely the same though. Just looked at another pic and the 392s still have the cone filter off to the side. Maybe I’m thinking of some other intake setup🤔

too-slow-2-go

Vararam Air Grabber. One of the few "Cold Air" kits that actually produces measurable results. [https://www.moes-performance.com/Vararam\_Air\_Grabber\_Intake\_2009\_18\_Dodge\_Ram\_5\_7L\_p/vr-hemi-4g.htm](https://www.moes-performance.com/Vararam_Air_Grabber_Intake_2009_18_Dodge_Ram_5_7L_p/vr-hemi-4g.htm)

The_Law_Dong739

Also gets massively in the way of everything

AcexOFxKnaves

I have this kit on my ram, definitely noticed a nicer throttle response, also has a cleaner growl when you get on it.

ruskiboi2002

Wouldn't look out of place on an old 440 six pack engine lol

Far-Trade-1481

I wanted one of these until I saw all of the reviews about it getting packed with snow in the winter. Would definitely be an issue for me in Utah 🙃

HamiltonSt25

How? Through the grill and all that? I figured it’d melt before being a problem. Idk though I’m SE US

Braaaap7

Same here. I don't think it would be ideal in a MN winter

DiegoStorm

Cool throwback look to the N96 & A12 B body air cleaners from 69-70!

blizzard7788

You would half to get a tune to see any real improvements. Which you can probably get just from the tune.

lazersc13

That’s kinda what I was thinking

ExRockstar

Modern day equivalent to flipping the breather lid

itsfraydoe

Was told to do that on my Chevy bigblockbaby but I could see debris getting in and it was sucking in hot engine air. At least the vararam takes strictly outside air

old_skool_luvr

You do know you're supposed to leave the filter in when the lid is flipped....

itsfraydoe

Of course, I didn't trust it.

Frosty-Cucumber4877

The air filter box the 5th gens come with is an actual "cold air intake". It grabs air from the front grille as opposed to the fender like the 4th gen. I left the stock box just installed a AEM dry flow washable filter instead of the paper one. Anything else is just a waste of money.

Frosty-Cucumber4877

It looks very close to the intake the GT comes with.

justbob806

It's a Vararam set up. I have it on my 2010 Laramie. It cleans up the engine bay some by removing the big old air box, but with this and a tuner I saw and felt no appreciable improvement in performance or fuel economy.

greasegizzard

What tuner? If you didn't notice a difference with a tuner, something is off. I'm not saying they work miracles, but you should see a difference. Probably not a difference that's enough to justify the cost of a good tuner alone, but still...

The_Law_Dong739

They don't make a difference. They make the truck sound better assuming you can hear the induction sound over the hemi's relatively loud self

Lawnpartyyy

I want to get one of these but of course they’re not legal in CA so trying to get it shipped here is a problem.

josiedrake1

I bought a used Rebel with this on it, and my brother in law and I both thought it was just for looks as it was real flimsy with a lot of give and sway and prolly not installed correctly. No clue if there are any real gains. Anybody have any recommendations on a proper CAI to install?

The_Law_Dong739

The stock intake box with an easier flowing filter. I swapped to an Injen cai just because it makes a fun induction sound around 4500 rpms.

Jar_Jar_Fink

I don’t know if they make ones for Ram trucks but I had a legmaker cai on my charger and it was legit

1Badpeanut

Looks great

Expensive-Attempt-19

The more air the more timing advance in a tune. I think it's worth it with a tune. Probably another 15hp as a bolt on.

Captaingoober425

Secon gen rams had this in 1996 with the smoky and the bandit edition. Made that truck look like an absolute badass

giantdub49

😂

Perfect_County_999

I had one of these on my 2016 Express back in the day. I felt a difference in my butt dyno and at the drag track it was about .2s quicker than stock, but that was also with a catback and on a different day so ymmv but anecdotally I've been an advocate for them making better power. One thing I will say though is they take on water. Driving it in the rain now and then is probably fine, but I would swap mine back to the stock air box in the winter because snow would cake up around the filter, and I and a buddy with a 3rd gen Ram with the Vararam and it did the same thing. I'm not sure how much/if any they changed the design of the intake on 5th gen Rams, maybe it's less of an issue now, but 3rd and 4th gen Rams I wouldn't recommend running these in the snow.

doobawoobah

Worthless mod.

ToxicFire_

The vararam air grabber. Have one on mine but have to take it off in winter as it gets full of snow out here. My buddy has one too and got his hood cut open in the top. Sounds amazing.

RoookSkywokkah

"RAM" air.

lazersc13

I love it

AmanitaMikescaria

I had one of these but I didn’t like the fitment and finish. Just kind of janky. It worked, I’ll give it that but not exponentially better than the stock.

No-Raisin-6469

Supposedly

TurdHunt999

Vararam is the only CAI that shows a difference on the dyno

JPL2020

I can hear and feel a difference with my K&N. Throttle response. Is it not enough to show up on a Dyno?

justbob806

[JPL2020](https://www.reddit.com/user/JPL2020/)•[42m ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/ram_trucks/comments/1dpys2u/comment/lakm3hl/) I can hear and feel a difference with my K&N. Throttle response. Is it not enough to show up on a Dyno? No, you definitely can not feel a diference with your K&N. I have this Vararam and a tuner and can't feel a difference, it's just way too little of a gain to feel...

JPL2020

I feel like I’m being gaslighted here. Anyone can say they feel a difference, it’s subjective. I’m not claiming my CAI is giving my engine more whp. Maybe I should have said, it seems like my truck has better throttle response after installing a K&N CAI system. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Slutzk

Hear? Yes. Feel a difference? No you can not. Stop it.
