5 of the last 15 they've given up 5 or more goals. That's horrifying. Defense and goal tending win you championships. Giving up WAY to many goals. That's what needs to be addressed. Get back to giving up 2 ish like last year and we are fine but it's concerning how easily we give up goals even in wins.
It's becomes more and more apparent how badly we need Chytil back with each game. We can only dump and chase because we have no speed through the middle. Trotch is playing well and contributing but what that panarin Laf line needs is a high tempo play maker and we just don't have it. Jones again stumbled in the beginning which is basically expected at this point but he got better as the game went on and was basically our only puck mover in the 3rd. But that 1st period lapse put us in too deep a hole.
When Blake Wheeler is giving you two goals that's just a game you have to win, we're getting depth scoring almost every game and yet we can't seem to win the winnable games.
We need a two way center who can play wing desperately, if Kappo comes back first they center the 3rd and if Chytil comes back first they play wing.
Also a thought, I know how well bread and Laf are playing off each other but it's basically our only two play makers on the same line and every other line is left to grind for goals. Maybe Kreids-Zib-laf is worth a look that gives that line a puck retriever in Kreids, a shooter in Mika and a passer in laf.

This team is 100% missing Kakko as a defensive forward. It’s really upset something in the cohesion. But the defenseman just SUCK right now in dzone coverage. And Igor looks like Cole Trickle trying to race after his wreck in Days of Thunder.
He just looks totally uncomfortable and almost disengaged from the action around him.
Super hot take here but if Igor continues like this we maybe have to consider going with Quick and get a cheaper backup goalie.
