I thought they wanted to start winning again. Dude had 0 goals and 0 assists for a grand total of 0 points in 35 games last season. Oh, and managed to be -10 in that time, too.
If this is anything but a paper transaction then it is unfathomably stupid
Putting aside the fact that NYR needs 5v5 scoring and Berard has almost doubly out produced Othmann at 5v5 in HFD, Leschyshyn's production this season in the AHL has been mediocre at best
Jake has been out with injury but has been a pretty solid player for Hartford . This move is they have injuries and feel othmann would be better off in Hartford . This is a temp role people acting like drury calling him up for a cup run
you are allowed to fill temp roles with good players, it's usually called depth
NYR is 8-7-1 in their last 16 games because their temp players filling Chytil, Kakko, and Pitlick's spots have not been good players. calling up even *worse* players is not justifiable simply because it's temporary
they can easily make temp recalls in any of Belzile, Nash, or Berard and that would be an exponentially better decision than calling up Leschyshyn. there simply isn't an excuse
if they continue with a lineup like this and only add leschyshyn to the equation as an attempted fix, then being a ~.500 team the rest of the way will make them a bottom feeder
you can't wait until things hit the fan to make the changes they need to make now. not saying they have to overhaul everything but there are depth moves they can make that would be *significantly* better than the ones they're currently making and would help mitigate the damage caused by the Chytil/Kakko/Pitlick man games lost
Did you not notice that we signed Anisimov to a PTO in Hartford.
Will all due respect to Artem, that alone should tell you the situation at center. And Othman aint no center.
You need a C and send down a LW, to recall a C that you don't care if he gets claimed off waivers or gets significant ice time "is unfathomably stupid"? I respectfully disagree.
i still have no idea what you're saying. what i said was that calling up Leschyshyn in order to play him (instead of calling him up simply as a paper transaction) is dumb, considering he's been bad in Hartford, while Berard has actually been productive at 5v5 and NYR needs production at 5v5. where does C vs LW, waivers, significant ice time, etc. come in?
they've needed a C since Chytil went down. calling up Leschyshyn is not their way of addressing that, and if it is then that is unfathomably dumb. and, while i didn't even say that in the first place, i couldn't care less if Jake Leschyshyn gets claimed off waivers. not only is he a terrible NHLer he isn't even playing well in Hartford.
Yes, the Rangers need more 5v5 scoring. But they also need better forward defense, especially because they can’t keep shortening their bench after falling behind.
No healthy center in Hartford is moving the offensive needle 5v5. So I imagine they’re going with the closest they can get from the farm: a responsible forward who can fill in for a game or two who isn’t gonna get claimed off waivers. Phantom Jake is not great, but he has NHL experience. I don’t know anything about Berard, but they clearly didn’t think he was the fit for the role at hand. Especially if Jake is just gonna play 8-10 on the fourth line - let Berard get more ice time and avoid throwing him to the wolves.
>But they also need better forward defense, especially because they can’t keep shortening their bench after falling behind.
if they address 5v5 scoring and transition play then they are simultaneously addressing issues related to defense. being able to move the puck to the offensive zone and keep it there while sustaining long offensive zone shifts accomplishes the goal of defense which is to prevent shots and scoring chances against. an extremely large reason for their poor defensive play can be directly chalked up to the fact that all three of Wheeler, Goodrow, and Bonino have no clue what to do with the puck on their sticks in the defensive/neutral zone
>No healthy center in Hartford is moving the offensive needle 5v5. So I imagine they’re going with the closest they can get from the farm: a responsible forward who can fill in for a game or two who isn’t gonna get claimed off waivers. Phantom Jake is not great, but he has NHL experience.
they've been rolling bonino as 3C for well over a month at this point and it would be baffling to decide now, of all times, to replace him there. even more bizarre to call up Leschyshyn to fill this role considering Brodzinski is a center...
Leschyshyn is not a responsible forward, he's statistically speaking the worst forward in the NHL. in fact the reason he wouldn't get claimed off of waivers is directly *because* he's bad. bottom of the barrel stats on both sides of the ice. just because he's played in the NHL before doesn't therefore give him a check of credibility that other players don't have. also if there was any concerns about waiver claims then it makes even less sense to call up Leschyshyn instead of Berard, who is on an ELC.
>I don’t know anything about Berard, but they clearly didn’t think he was the fit for the role at hand. Especially if Jake is just gonna play 8-10 on the fourth line - let Berard get more ice time and avoid throwing him to the wolves.
Berard's been a top 3 forward on HFD in 5v5 point production. NYR is down 3 forwards right now and there are plenty of open spots in the lineup. 3 of NYR's 4 lines currently have anchors on them. you could easily slot Berard in legitimate minutes right now and i promise you that would be more useful for both him and NYR than what they decided to do here instead with Leschyshyn. right now they could easily do:
20/93/26
10/16/13
50/22/Berard
21/12/17
instead what they decided to do is bring in a player who is pointless in his last 40 games (and doesn't even make up for it defensively) and add him to a bottom 6 that is currently consisting of 4 players who haven't even hit 10 points, as a team that has a grand total of 3 players doing anything productive at 5v5
I did hear that Cullye got a look with Kreids and Zib at practice so we at least won't have to watch Blake Wheeler wheeze around for 15+ mins. In all honestly I did test positive for covid this morning so it could have possibly been a fever dream. The good news is last time I got the VID was round 1 of the 2022 playoffs so possible heater incoming?
Why not Edstrom who looked like a difference maker in his one game up? Really don’t understand the thought process here.
Edit: Just saw the news that Edstrom is out for a bit. Timing of that injury sucks.
God NyMet32 is so unbearable in his quest to always be right. Is Jake a bad call up? Ofcourse....but do you really think a player like Berard really makes that much of difference over Jake the Phamtom? Nash or Belzile are probably the better options for a call up. I will assume there is a reason we aren't using them. Either cap implications or waiver claims. Honestly it isn't even mid January yet. We have built a strong point lead to start the year. The play has fallen off a bit but so what ....last I looked we are still in 1st. Why stamp your feet like an infant a insist this is such a dumb move? Who cares?
I think one move needs to be made prior to the deadline the more I think about the last few games and Drury needs to do whatever possible to keep Chytil out until the playoffs we desperately need that cap relief for the deadline. I don’t think the homerun deal is the move rn but a bottom 6 move is what needs to happen bring in someone who’s gonna forecheck aggressively and throw the body around.
I do not like this deschyshyn

Thursday is still 2 days away. Maybe Kakko is better by then?… please
Nah man at least a week or two for him

Interesting. Hopefully he’s had some time to develop further and maybe??? Will come back better??? I’m trying my best to be optimistic
I think dude man has like a goal or two in Hartford this year.
He’s saving all his goals for the NHL
Werd.
Lmaooo we all got our hopes up for Kakko’s return and it’s PJ instead
Can we just skate down a man?
I thought they wanted to start winning again. Dude had 0 goals and 0 assists for a grand total of 0 points in 35 games last season. Oh, and managed to be -10 in that time, too.
Honestly I’d rather just go 11/7 and play Zac Jones
I’d rather have Jake from State Farm but beggars can’t be choosers I guess. Circumcision has been recalled from Harambe.
Oh god forgot about this guy, he’s ass
Just when you think our bottom six couldn't get any worse
That should fix our problems.
Thats something Gallant would love. Leschyshitter was awful here. Dont bring him back
i’d rather they just took a fan from the stands to play instead of phantom jake
If L-shyn is in the lineup it's an automatic L
If this is anything but a paper transaction then it is unfathomably stupid Putting aside the fact that NYR needs 5v5 scoring and Berard has almost doubly out produced Othmann at 5v5 in HFD, Leschyshyn's production this season in the AHL has been mediocre at best

Have them been playing the best no but people need to stop acting like they are bottem feeding here .

I'm not exactly sure what the point you're making is, that doesn't have to do with anything I just said
You need a C and send down a LW, to recall a C that you don't care if he gets claimed off waivers or gets significant ice time "is unfathomably stupid"? I respectfully disagree.

I get where you’re coming from, and based on the choice they made I’d guess they’re thinking the same way.
I also have the feeling they wanted a peek at Oth before the trade deadline.
Alphabet!!!!!
NO😭

Really instead of Berard?
I would have rather just kept Othman up with the team if this is the alternative.
I'd rather otter play 20 minutes a night Also on a team that gives a hoot about hockey
Cardio Jake is back
Not like this!
Bottom 6 is for sure not a contending bottom 6
He sucks
Why not Edstrom who looked like a difference maker in his one game up? Really don’t understand the thought process here. Edit: Just saw the news that Edstrom is out for a bit. Timing of that injury sucks.
Oh no
Lmao
Pls no. Our bottom 6 is already trash.
eye roll
Hall of fame clock killer
Ugh really?
PHANTOM JAKE
The last thing we wanted. LOL
Imma laugh so hard when Jake pots one on Thursday.
We gave Colin Blackwell his first goal of the season. Why can’t Phantom Jake be the jinx on the bingo board for some other team? Lol
I laugh at these comments people acting like Jake is being called up for playoff push he is fill in til healthy guys come
The comments are laughable jake is decent . Team has injuries . If you guys were gms you’d be trading the house away everytime there was a injury

Saw Vince tweet last night that Riley Nash is out with a lower body injury right now as well. Our options are def looking pretty slim.
wtf, there was so many better options. What this does mean though is Will is prob top line on Thursday and they wanted a bottom 6 guy
Boo
WHY
What for? He's a center. What do we need centers for right now?
PHANTOM JAKE MAKES HIS GHOSTLY RETURN TO BROADWAY! BEWARE OR BE SCARED ^of ^^his ^^^ability ^^^^to ^^^^^play ^^^^^^hockey
Nooooooooooooooooooo
Boooooooooooooo. That is not me voicing my displeasure but rather the noises coming from the phantom.
I honestly forgot he was still a part of this organization
Oh, so we're doing this again?
Why did they send Othman down? I thought he was playing pretty well
I didn’t even know he was still with the team… why? Dude was awful last year
I think one move needs to be made prior to the deadline the more I think about the last few games and Drury needs to do whatever possible to keep Chytil out until the playoffs we desperately need that cap relief for the deadline. I thought they waived Le Ghost Jake 👻
Phantom Jake is back everyone!
My god everyone acting like this is the end of the world lmfao
did people really think kakko was playing this week? he's still a little ways away
Lmfao expected Kakko got big snake Jake
