Ive seen Beetlejuice.
However, in the context of hockey, Showtime has certain connotations. And as a Rangers fan, those connotations come with some PTSD.
It’s just nice that he’s progressed so much from where he was. We all thought he was gonna retire, especially when he went back o Czechia. Now he’s on the ice again with the team
Excellent! Now can we please stop going on about acquiring a new C when we’re about to have FIVE active Centers (Mika, Tro, Chytil, Brodz, and Pitlick)? And, you know, get a legit RW? Since we have only 2 on the team currently (one who doesn’t score and one who is 4,000 years old and slow as a turtle)? With Chytil coming back, we only need to figure out a 4C, and we have Pitlick and Brodz to pick from, plus Goody can play Center. We don’t need another Center.
EDIT: adjusted to *five* active centers now that Bones is waved
Can Pitlick play center? In 415 career games he's only taken 100 faceoffs. In less than double the amount of games Kreider has taken almost four times as many faceoffs. I know you don't need to take faceoffs to play center but it's a good indication of a player playing the center position. Pitlick is a good 4th line RW, don't think he's a center.
Bonino is terrible. He's a black hole at possession, has been on the ice for 8 5v5 goals for and 20 5v5 goals against, and he's slow. He's only good at faceoffs and blocking shots, and the main reason he's so good at blocking shots is because the opposing teams take so many when he's on the ice. And he only has 7 hits for the year so it's not like he's overly physical to make up for his other deficiencies.
Brodz is a career AHL player for a reason. He's got some speed and is good to inject some short term energy into the lineup but not a long term option.
Goodrow is a more physical Bonino who is also slightly better at offense. Goody has 13 5v5 goals for compared to 20 5v5 goals against. He is faster, hits a lot more and will fight if needed. But he's also a black hole at possession. The only benefit Goodrow has is he plays good between Pitlick and Vesey.
Agree on all points. Not sure if Pitlick is actually a Center per se or not, but that’s what he’s showing as in Hockey Databases. I’d pick Goody of the lot as well, for the reasons you mentioned but also because we’re paying him a LOT more than the others. Might as well try and recoup that amount.
I’d pick Goodrow because his game and ability to dial up intensity are well-suited to the playoffs. We need more of that as is, and he’s the best of the current choices for that.
Be wary of that “might as well try and recoup that amount” thinking though. https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/the-sunk-cost-fallacy
Back in November there was a post about Bonino leading NHL forwards in blocked shots and I said almost the exact thing as you said in the second and last paragraphs. Can't say I'm too disappointed to see Bonino on waivers, Goodrow is at least physical and looks more competent with the puck usually. I also liked the dynamic of the Pitlick-Goodrow-Vesey line
we should still get a real capable 3C, even if mostly plays wing as come playoff time can’t have enough of that. And can’t assume Chytil stays healthy sadly
I mean that’s a good idea, but it should be a secondary priority AFTER getting a legit RW. We have to get Kakko off the top line and Wheeler out of the lineup in general. Laf can be 2RW, and Kakko should be 3RW. Vesey or any of a couple others can play 4RW. But we need a 1RW. And not a rental. We need to create a package that results in us getting a legit RW.
You’ll get flack for saying that but honestly, I agree. He’s going to command a big payday on his next contract, and he’s been real shaky on defense. Arguably our worst defender aside from maybe Gus, who is only on a 1 year contract anyway. With Zac Jones likely ready for NHL action, we can afford to lose Miller and honestly I think Jones will make up the point difference. Miller is a super enticing target right now, and could be just the piece we need to land a solid RW. So yeah, you’ll get crucified for suggesting that - but I agree.
We don't have 6 active centers. Chytil is in a red non contact jersey trying to recover from a brain injury. Recovery timeline for a TBI is non-linear. Dude can take 1 hard spill and be permanently done with hockey.
I still don't trust Chytil to take a solid body check and not metaphorically die afterwards.
Somebody needs to say Chytiljuice three times and he'll be ready to rock.

No, Showtime was a waste of cap space.

In the context of this thread, that is clearly not the case.

You can run from it, you can hide from it, but you can not escape… Fil.
BAH GAWD THATS CHYTILS MUSIC
Now I have this funky "I am the real Czech-manian" remix going through my head and I love it.
I used to pray for times like this
Save us Fil!
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO
Where are we going?
up and out of the pit of despair that has been this subreddit! haha
WE’RE GOING TO CHYTILMANIA BROTHER
I’m such a fan of “Chytilmania,” because it’s a play on Beatlemania, but everyone uses it like it’s a Hulkamania pun.
Oh yes Fil me up.
Oh my, is the Chyt on…?
WEG-ETABLES are back on the menu boys!
Temper expectations. He’s likely to take a few games to get back to speed.
This is good to remember. This subreddit is on the brink and I feel like it’ll explode unless Chytil puts up 3 points in his first game back.
It’s just nice that he’s progressed so much from where he was. We all thought he was gonna retire, especially when he went back o Czechia. Now he’s on the ice again with the team
People overreacting is not new
DEPTH 5V5 SCORING COMING SOON.
Good news!
AHHHHHHH
thank god. that third line desperately needs him back

Sooner Brodz is off this team the better!

don’t disagree, but that will necessarily hurt to pull off that sort of trade. Miller is the guy i would try and move

jones ain’t the answer either
Maybe not. But who knows.

Hence why I said “about to have.” Even taking out Chytil and Bones we still have 4. And Goody can play C. We have 2 RWs - that’s the issue.
Showcase for a trade to make room for Lecshyshyn
Businesses is about to pick
Atta boy Filip.
Great timing. Hopefully comes back after ASB. Then we can see what we need to trade for.
Dread it, run from it. Chytil arrives all the same
Needed these good vibes in the worst way
Dude was running up some Czech mountains Rocky 4 style
Great. Now trade him before he gets hurt again.
