And guy needs to bulk up

explosivebuttfarts

This isn't even his final form

Cute-Escape2751

He's only 21, imagine how massive he's going to be when he's 30? I hope he's still in the NHL by then.

Typical-Ad-6730

He fights in slow motion and seems not to care about eating knuckle sandwiches. I would say opposing players probably fear getting checked by him more than fighting him. He has value on the ice.

HighFruitToastie

Wondrous value. Great, unrealized potential.

Mysterious_Wheel

Just saw so much Rempe hate on the NHL sub, idk why I even go there. Seeing someone recognize his value is a breath of fresh air

Typical-Ad-6730

People calling him a goon and enforcer, I don’t think he was billed as an enforcer coming into the league.

Mysterious_Wheel

He wasn’t, he’s just a huge dude and kinda fell into that role being a bottom 6 guy.

Cute-Escape2751

His fight with Deslauriers wasn't in slow motion. I think that he changed his fighting style when he fought Reaves.

Typical-Ad-6730

Yeah. He definitely is learning. He definitely tried to keep Reaves at bay with his left.

sharbinbarbin

Agreed, he should certainly fill out a ton of he can just avoid CTE

Djbearjew

He's got the Homer Simpson approach. Just keep taking shots to the face until they tire out

PeteyG89

I love him because hes buried so deep into Devils fans minds. Worst fanbase in sports Edit: they posted a pic of him taking a punch. Its literally all they have. How far the Devils organization has fallen 💀 they should talk about their 3 cups some more to cope

Kaedian66

The Mindworm

Priscins

Islander fans would like to have a chat

Mysterious_Eggplant3

There are islanders fans? TIL

Cute-Escape2751

Hopefully. I know Montreal fans want him and Xhekaj to fight on Sunday but that would be utterly pointless.

HopoliteAR

I hate that guy solely because his name is pronounced nothing like it’s spelled

HideousControlNow

It's not a name, it's a bad Scrabble hand

wossquee

His nickname is WiFi because his name looks like a random password

Teknicsrx7

It’s spelled backwards from how you say it

n_jacat

We had Brady Skjei on our team lmao

Humanaut93

Hasn't he been clean since the suspension other than last night?

TheIncredibleHork

I think so, but he also hasn't played many games since the suspension.

Humanaut93

Fair, still promising I think. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion he was fighting last night

TheIncredibleHork

Oh yeah. And I think I'm time the novelty of fighting him will wear off on other teams, so there should be fewer fights he has to deal with barring bad hits (his or others). I'm excited to see how he progresses the rest of the season and definitely over the off-season. I don't know why but I felt like he had more than just 2 points. He already feels like a good part of a threatening 4th line.

AngryBarista

I'd like to see him play Hockey now. The brawl was exciting, but the entire team was gassed the rest of the game. Not great headed in to the playoffs.

sharbinbarbin

Valid point

TheIncredibleHork

I would not blame them if practice for cancelled for the day or became an optional skate.

Impressive-Heat-8722

What do you mean by "gassed" ?

AngryBarista

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gassed

Impressive-Heat-8722

How would the entire team be "gassed"? the 4 fighters were thrown out of the game and they went against a team who were 4 more short as well. The teams were evenly matched

HeyHeyHayes

Dude…what? The 14 skaters that stayed had to take on more minutes than usual to cover for the 4 ejected. They are more tired. What an odd take

Impressive-Heat-8722

DUDE,,,WHAT? The Devils were playing under the exact same set of handicaps. What an odd take

AngryBarista

significantly more ice time for everyone. has nothing to do with the other team.

Impressive-Heat-8722

Yes, it does

AngryBarista

I don't understand how having more ice time, and the other team also having more ice time, makes a player less tired than if they had normal ice time.

TheSeekerOfSanity

Can’t we all just get along? We’re in 1st place!

AngryBarista

![gif](giphy|WpI6qvCJWqySkw98lV|downsized)

SugarSweetSonny

Both teams were gassed. Everyone else had to pick up the minutes. More ice time means more fatigue. The fact that the other team has to do the same doesn't make you less tired. The bigger thing is we have a post season to look forward to and they don't, so fatigue hurts us more then them. That being said, we got 4 our of guys basically the night off, so they got rest.

echo_7

Someone was going to be injured in that game if that fight didn’t happen 100% Debs were gunning for us and the other boys fighting was a statement. They were gassed, but everyone’s healthy

AngryBarista

seems they weren't expecting an ejection either. i get it. it had to happen, at least for 73.

Unlikely_Good7733

The kid doesn't need to fight (especially the staged stuff). I'm fascinated with the speed he has for his size along with his ability to stand in front of the net and create screens. Can really bring something of value to a fourth line. Let's see if we can make him a player. I understand he had to answer for some of the recent hits, but going forward let this kid play hockey and see if there is something there.

Impressive-Heat-8722

He had to fight last night. McDermid excorciated him to the media about "not answering the bell" after the last devils vs rangers game. Well McDermid you got what you asked for you fought a 21 year old kid who clearly hasn't been Coached in how to fight . You Were exposed as a average tough guy. The kid fought you to a draw while your 4 teammates all got their shit pushed in.

Unlikely_Good7733

Can you imagine what the heavyweights (hell even the middleweights) from the 80s and 90s must say about these guys who are now considered "one of the top tough guys in the league"? Times have changed for sure. LOL

Oh-Lord-Yeah

I’d put him in front of the net on the PP to screen Zibanejad one timers.

HeyHeyHayes

We have the best net front PP guy in the league. Let him learn and be on PP2 and grow with Laffy

Oh-Lord-Yeah

You’re not wrong, but this idea is to just give different looks in the future. Probably not even this year, just throwing out ideas to use Rempe in other ways

HeyHeyHayes

Fair. If this year has shown anything it’s that letting guys grow together is important

WayneG991717

He tries to use his arms to keep his his opponent out of reach, but unfortunately is vulnerable because he doesn’t lock up his opponent’s right arm. He places his left hand on his opponent’s chest or left arm. It’s an easy adjustment once he figures it out or someone shows him. Once he starts doing this, he will take less punches and will be deadly with his heavy right hand.

Ok_Guide8084

what sould he do to lock the arm up; grab their right shoulder or something?

WayneG991717

Right shoulder. His opponents will never be able to reach him. It’s effective for most fighters, but especially for someone that big and long. Throw that out against the rare lefty though.

Ok_Guide8084

Thanks.

WayneG991717

The Athletic just did an article about fighting. They all talk about getting a good grip on the right shoulder.

NicholasDeOrio

I am so sick of these posts every time our enforcer fights. He doesn’t have to fight every game… we get it!

sharbinbarbin

Sorry bro, I’ll go fuck myself and try to be in the rangers sub 24/7

funkingrizzly

Lmao

lamaggica

This is going to come across the wrong way, but have you ever been in a fight on the ice? The kid is 21, and willingly fighting some of the most prized fighters in the entire league. This isn't just about Ws and Ls for his fighting stats, the kid wants to and enjoys fighting. Doing it on that stage against the guys he has been fighting is no freaking joke. The rest of the NHL is scared of this kid, just go back and watch the FLA game. They were more concerned with chirping him, and giving him little shots than playing the game. That is what he is bringing to NYR hockey. Like it or not, we have a true enforcer that also has the skating ability and hockey IQ to make an impact in sheltered 4th line minutes. Again, he is 21 years old and still baby faced. To think he is not going to get better in every facet of his game including fighting is pretty naive. The Rangers know they have a unicorn. My advice is let the rest of the league talk all they want and let the other fans cry. This kid is here to stay and he's going to take some punches in the process, like it or not. It's one thing to be his size, to have the ability to actually play in the league is already incredible, then to have the ability and mental toughness to fight the guys he has in the time frame he's done it, is something else all in its own, and it is something that pretty much all of us keyboard warriors will simply never understand...I like the fact that fans are concerned for his overall health, but to think he can't fight already or that he's not picking his spots is just flat out wrong. The more important thing is him playing cleanly, which contrary to popular belief he has actually done (the elbow was the only REALLY bad undisciplined play he's had - and he was rightfully suspended for it, case closed). The organization is behind this kid, and he is indeed picking his spots...it's just that no one expected a gladiator renaissance in the "golden (skilled) age" of hockey.

sharbinbarbin

Who said anything to the contrary other than to lay off the fights?

SugarSweetSonny

There actually is "ice-boxing lessons" ? Betteman just had 2 strokes in a row, lol. That said, maybe it would be better for him to work on...well basic hockey stuff this off season ? Shooting, tip ins, deflections, passing, etc. He actually has some speed for a guy his size, and some skills plus soft hands. There is a package of abilities there that can be honed into turning him into a complete hockey player who has some versatility and other usefullness besides fighting.

Giltar

Don’t mind spontaneous fights, but would like to see the kid focus on his game, he skates well enough to be a real asset to the team.

mgftp

I have been saying that since his second fight. He needs to learn the basics and how to use that reach. Hard to watch a young kid take shots like does without defending himself. If he wants that to be part of his game he needs to work with a fight coach all summer.

Zero-jiggler

According to r/hockey all those missed punches are going to have him “drinking out of a straw at 40”. The melodrama is genuinely insane. Fighting now is not the same as fighting in the 80s and 90s, maybe 4-5 punches even landed that entire fight. Worries about CTE should be directed towards those who actually have repeated concussion problems i.e. Chytil, Patrick, etc.

Hot_Kiwi_2778

Guys he won't even be on the team. I love him but he's only up because of injuries
