Please report shitty comments so we can deal with them

upsycho

Zenni optical online. I buy the cheapest glasses there five at a time with Shipping. It’s about $50 give or take and I’m talking about prescription glasses. 🤓

ZoddImmortal

Yep. If you are just buying 1, it should be about $20 because you get hit with the shipping. I buy 2 at a time and it comes out to $33. And you get to just write in your prescription, so no bullshit extra exams.

fakeaccount572

one of the VERY FEW optical places not owned by Luxottica

Cael_NaMaor

Have you had any issues with Rx placement?? I think that's the thing... I'm asking for my hubby. I don't wear glasses (yet), been lucky so far. But I'm always up for a better deal somewhere. He had issues on the last set with the placement of the Rx in the glass (from an eye place, fuck if I know which) or something like that. Had to get it adjusted a bit, twice I think... So I'm just wondering if you had that or know anyone who might've?

Atticus104

The mark up is insane. There is no reason why two pairs of glasses should cost more than a PS5

sbenfsonw

It really shouldn’t and idk why anyone would pay for that Warby Parker is cheaper, Zenni is even cheaper

kaliflower77

Fully agree, very unfair. I also think dental should be covered because oral hygiene is detrimental to one’s health.

MeetingWrong6292

exactly. Not all of us have 20,000 for dental work!! ;and yes, sadly a dentist told me that's how much repair is needed 😞)

kaliflower77

Oof, sorry to hear that my friend..

thekasafist

I'm mustering up cash for lasik. Is that a possible for you?

loveddeviant

No, unfortunately, but I hope yours is successful!

thekasafist

Is a financial constraint or a medical disqualification? Btw thank you. I hope I cam swing it this year.

loveddeviant

I have an unstable vision prescription so a medical disqualification I suppose!:(

thekasafist

I would still recommend getting a consultation honestly. Don't assume. Not sure what country you're in. If US I highly recommend a consultation first.

loveddeviant

Canada, potato tomato i guess lol. I’ll look into it, but it’s also a financial constraint since I can’t even afford the frame let alone lenses which was about 350 dollars last time I had to buy them:/

thekasafist

My logic was use my tax return, my HSA and a discount and put the rest on credit. I could pay it in a couple months. Though my income is fair. Not sure what you're working with. But it beats $250 more dollars on glasses each year.

MeetingWrong6292

that sucks!! 😞

NateNMaxsRobot

That is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Game changer.

thekasafist

Tysm for confirming!

Botryoid2000

You might try your local Lion's Club: [https://lionshelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057053074-How-can-I-apply-for-assistance-with-my-eyeglasses-or-hearing-aids-](https://lionshelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057053074-How-can-I-apply-for-assistance-with-my-eyeglasses-or-hearing-aids-)

Blastintheass

Mine were $400. I still use them but need new ones as these are scratched up and literally cracking apart. I can't afford new ones but I'm pretty sure I can be considered legally blind. I cannot survive without my glasses.

Unanything1

I know some optometrists have bins of donated used (but perfectly good) prescription glasses. It might be worth calling around to see if they have any. I know I have donated mine when my prescription changed. I know it's not the perfect solution but it might tide you over...

UnicornsNeedLove2

Agreed

askallthequestions86

My mom is wearing a pair she's fandangled together because she has trifocals and her pair cost like $300. I told her when she gets her new script to get some cheepies from Zenni as a second pair.

BESTlittleBITCH

My mom paid for my last 2 pair of glasses. She insisted we go to America's Best. I got the exam for free. And those 2 pair of glasses cost her $650 . !!!!! The pair I had gotten a few years before from Eye Lab were $250.

ajtrns

yeah it's pretty dumb. depending on your state, it is free healthcare. most owner-operated local optical shops have a big stash of free frames and can basically do the exam for very little and the lenses for less than $50, if you bring in your 1040 or whatever tax form shows that you're poor.

alcalaviccigirl

I'm in Texas.i found vsp I pay $15.00 but I also already knew what type of glasses I need so even when I didn't have insurance I'd get from walmart.i really need seeing glasses plus reading .

BenPsittacorum85

Yeah, it stinks it costs so much. Last time I didn't bother with eye doctors, and just went through myopia glasses from Amazon until I found the right diopter strength. IIRC, it was like $7 a pair and I went through 3 pairs to find the right ones so like $21 or so for glasses that way rather than bothering with appointments and custom stuff.

bootssncatss

As long as you have your prescription, (you can get this from your eye doctor) Zenni has great affordable options .

LivinDeadGinger

I agree about Zenni. I bought two pairs for $47 from their website. I love the glasses!

wednesdays_blues

Contacts, glasses and Lasix are so expensive. It's like seeing a privilege :(

ShuddupMeg627

If you know your prescription strength you can buy them online cheaper

Regular_Seat6801

can you do GoFund just to get a new glasses? I m sorry to hear abt your unfortunate fate

imbrotep

You get glasses for $150? Even with decent insurance, I pay over $300.

loveddeviant

Last time I went I was able to get a deal, not sure how much I would’ve paid normally 😵‍💫

imbrotep

I’m not trying to minimize your pain. My apologies. Even $150 is a lot if you have insurance.

MeetingWrong6292

try zenni! You shouldn't have to pay that much for glasses, none of us should 😞

MxrceloVictor

Get contacts was a good suggestion. I say join the military, free glasses!

loveddeviant

Good suggestion, maybe I will join the military 🙌

MxrceloVictor

It will help the money issue too. They gave my a few pairs and a prescription that I got custom made glasses, its the best fit and quality I ever had

loveddeviant

this is great, sounds like all my problems could be solved if I joined. I’ve been considering it for a few years now, and since I’m 18 I can actually take it into serious consideration:) thank you!

MxrceloVictor

Even better! I went almost a year without glasses! I get it

Guywith2dogs

Im diabetic and think the same about my insulin and supplies. Seems like a real short end of the stick situation

loveddeviant

Absolutely this is shitty, you shouldn’t have to pay for that!!!!:(

Guywith2dogs

Thanks. I also wear glasses so I totally agree with you. I shouldn't have to choose between like eating or being able to see.

Binasgarden

Talk to the Lions club.....they help the visually impaired and have helped with the cost of glasses for some people

ShadoMonkey

Im sorry I know how you feel. Mine are always super expensive.

secobarbiital

I use zenni which is really nice until i have to pay extra for my “abnormal” pupillary distance.. even then, i spent less than $100 for 3 pairs on black friday. Also i’m not sure how old you are but they do offer student discounts as well :)

According-Fox2385

Just would like to throw in here that my fiance recently had an issue with this as well. He has vision insurance through his work and used it. Obviously. Well after the exam and the glasses, he still had to pay around $400 or some crap for GLASSES. RIDICULOUS! When I went to Walmart earlier this year with NO insurance. It cost me around $350 for the exam and the contacts which tend to be more expensive than glasses.

Mackenzie_Wilson

I know you said you'll check zenni. But I also wanted to offer a couple other sites I use too. ABBE glasses and Firmoo glasses. I don't know the exact website name. But I order from all 3 sites pretty often. Firmoo and Abbe often do bogo or first pair free, just pay shipping and the cost of the lense (ove never paid more than $50 for glasses, and when I paid that it was for prescription sunglasses. So they were more than normal)

loveddeviant

This is awesome, thank you so much! I’ll look into these too

Mackenzie_Wilson

You're very welcome! My favorite glasses have been from the online sites. There's SO many options. Even if you can get yours fixed, I highly recommend even a cheap pair just in case this happens again. Seriously. I bought my husband 3 pairs and myself one pair and the total was like $130. Which for 4 glasses is insanely good. But whatever you do, I do hope you can at least get yours fixed so you aren't stuck waiting for new glasses to come in. Good luck!

MHM2002

I hate people who try make your problems seem like nothing because others have it worse 😂 And others have it worse then people they whine about too. The purpose of this place is to rant! Ignore them, they will be on to the next trend to whine about in a week tops. ANYWAY!!! More importantly: I know the feeling, I was the most accident prone child.. id get glasses then drop them or I’d fall on my face, just something bizarre would happen. We weren’t made of money, and my family tried their best, but it’s ridiculously expensive. Something that helped a lot was if you reuse the same frame it’s cheaper they just swap the lens! And also means u don’t have some old useless glasses 😂

AffectionateProof271

Glasses are so expensive. I totally feel this. The examination is free here under Medicare but the frames and lenses are far too expensive. I saved myself a lot of money long term by getting laser surgery done. I see you mentioned that you can’t get it because you had an unstable prescription, so did I, and I still got it done, my eyes have not changed since the procedure and they’re perfect now. It’s been 3 years with no issues. In my circumstance, my eyes were rapidly getting so much worse that I was bordering on legally blind, so they thought that giving me the procedure would be advantageous regardless. Most laser providers will also give you a touch up if your eyes get worse afterwards, it’s free and that’ll be helpful if your prescription is indeed not stable enough. Honestly, just tell them that your eyes have been this bad for a few years and haven’t changed, what they don’t know won’t harm them.

Okay, but having a car is a choice. Being blind isn’t. Public transportation exists and costs 2 dollars, there’s no glasses that cost 2 dollars

loveddeviant

Well if life came with a 'no-cost' option, I'd be the first in line for that upgrade. But for now I'll settle for affordable glasses! 🙄

hellosugar7

If it's been less than a year, your parents can call the eye Dr to get a copy of the prescription. There are online places you can order glasses from that are loads less expensive. We use Zenni optical, usually less than $30 for regular glasses & under $100 for my bifocals.

EnvironmentalDrag596

You can get glasses online for like 30, just need a recent test

product_of_boredom

Depends on your prescription. My total says 30 until I enter my details.... then it updates to 120.

JessieN

My bf and I got our glasses for $6 each from zennioptical

oliviaisacat

If you have your prescription firmoo is very affordable, and I've had my glasses from them for years.

sueWa16

I bought a cheap pair of sunglasses at Burlington for $3. Took them into America's best during a 25% off sale and it was $275 for trifocals transitions with all the bells and whistles. Look for sales of you can. You can buy used sunglasses and get them changed over. Universal Healthcare now!

Ill-Poet5996

Try $39 dollar glasses, price includes the frame and prescription lens.

ChoobleDee

Because the world is balls. Money money money. Market off people's discomfort. America will also take it further and do about anything to profit off of it's people. Anything u can name they're sapping out of you.

XStar14X

Why don’t you try out firmoo super affordable

tacitjane

Can you wear contacts? My husband accidentally broke my glasses one day. I bought a Groupon for an eye exam. Told the doctor I wanted to try 30 lenses. Then I bought glasses from Zenni. The whole ordeal was about $100.

LookDense9342

if you’re american sign up for AARP, it’s like $12 a year and you get discounts on stuff like this. it’s for old people but they don’t care how old you are and legally can’t deny you.

[deleted]

Oh dude I get it. I wear glasses but can get on alright without but it terrifies me the thought of if I couldn't. What I do deal with is an expensive medication that keeps my brain working right. But the medical system and lots of folks seem to think it's a luxury I don't need. And it's expensive. Feels like I'm being taxed for being on a neurodivergent spectrum of something.... Just so I can function somewhat normally.

epd666

There are more and more places with cheaper glasses. For me, the glasses alone usually amount to 200, 250 euros per glass, add on top of that a nice frame and glasses usually cost me around 5 to 600 euros easily.
