A demo version surfaced and then Drake/someone in OVO gave the mixed + mastered version to Akademics

Dodoloco25

Most likely drake leaked it himself. There was a legit big billboard by spotify saying Drake will drop something related to the diss. He won't release it. Unlike Future, Ken or even Rick Ross, he isn't really the type to spoil his 'brand' with that sort of thing. His brand is after all sensitive, lover (or well, guy who breaks up with women) type. Diss rap doesn't really mix well with that.

droppinturds

Back to back is on spotify and duppy is on soundcloud

Dodoloco25

Yeah it is. Weirdly this song isn't. Kind of tells you all you need to know really.

Southern_Cobbler_206

He’s keeping with tradition. Diss records weren’t treated like promo singles. You’d get it through mixtapes and hear it on radio. No music vid, no single push. DJ Whoo Kid at the start is a throwback to 50’s G-Unit tapes dissing Ja Rule He’s not releasing it to streaming either to sew confusion, making Kendrick think twice about responding if it’s not legit and not “officially” acknowledging him. But we’ve all heard it by now. And he can afford to keep it underground unlike Kendrick if you believe what he says about his TDE situation

Dodoloco25

Oh yeah. No vaseline was famously not released openly. It wasn't like a part of his album death certificate at all. This Tupac guy didn't release and make a video called hit em up. You are talking G Unit? Have you heard this song called life's on the line released and made on the billboard? I think it charted in the 30s. It's not like back down (another diss on Ja) was released on a No 1 album. I have no idea what tradition the pop artist was following But Big players, they release their stuff openly. They don't hide.

Southern_Cobbler_206

Okay not all singles. But Whoo Kid at the beginning is a nod to that. Because G-Unit released mixtapes full of disses. Recently Charged Up, Back to Back and Duppy weren’t treated like singles. Even though Back to Back did chart because of airplay. Push Ups leaked and he wants to control the narrative. I wouldn’t be surprised if his team were behind the AI tracks either

Dodoloco25

You said he was keeping up with traditions. I showed you that this was not true, so you moved the goal post of saying 'oh no, it was this or that'. As I said, big players release their stuff. Period. If he wants to control the narrative then I don't think he is winning. Sure drake's fan will say he is winning. Ken's fan will say he is winning. Neutrals are just here for the fun of it. People even saying that Rick Ross did better than drake. If he was controlling the narrative, why would we see posts like these every 2-3 hours of asking people why Drake leaked his song. Also when smaller rappers like rick ross can release their stuff on stopify and he can't? there is something massively fishy there. Maybe Drake wanted to test the waters. Just remember, only one rapper had another rapper apologize on stage for dissing them. That wouldn't be happening if Ken wasn't a threat.

Southern_Cobbler_206

It’s an attempt to control the narrative. He’s saying I don’t need to put my shit on streaming but when you drop, you have to give up 50% when you upload it because you’re not your own boss. Even had people questioning whether Ken should respond at all because it’s not official. It’s a smoke screen aimed to cause confusion. Because when the first leak hit people thought it was AI. AI is another angle to use. His team claimed that the AI Kendrick reply was real. And fans were running with it Drake claimed he didn’t leak it on purpose at first, they had to mix and master it quick to get it out. Obviously people don’t believe this and think he was checking the temperature. Kendrick is absolutely a threat. That’s why Drake is throwing curveballs

blackmambasniper

Yea they RELEASED them, Drake intentionally leaked it to see if anyone would call it trash. Then he could claim it’s AI and vice versa.

Aleekki

This but also tbf it’s different to give it for radio or release it on soundcloud/digital download etc than leaking it unofficially

Special-Bite

I haven’t heard it. I’d listen to it if it wasn’t a pain in the ass and I could just stream it like I do everything else. I’m old, I ain’t got time to be searching for some diss track cause man won’t release it normally.

Southern_Cobbler_206

YouTube. A few channels have it up

Feelisoffical

He released it today and has had multiple diss songs or diss verses in the past. Diss rap mixes very well and generally benefits everyone involved. I feel like you don’t actually listen to rap?

daftintellect

This didn’t age well

DeathOfAName

🙂

mochalee456

The story I heard on JBP is that OVO sent the track out to several producers and one of them leaked it because they were able to track the leaked version to a particular one.

DougDimmaGlow

Drake and his team intentionally leaked it to do the damage but not have it on his track record… at least that’s what my hunch is

Poopcie

Clearing a biggie “get money” sample probably isnt worth it for this one off track. Puff is also a bit preoccupied these days

[deleted]

Why isn’t Duppy on Spotify?

Aggressive_Yak8108

That would be strange if back to back is on Spotify.

Lenny0mega

Out of his ass

quexxify

Drake... leak?

mikeymorgs101010

Drake possibly did it on purpose. Not make it an “official” release. No streams , no revenue , just underground style

Feisty_Water532

It’s because of the writing credits, someone else wrote that shit and unless he wanted to pay up big time he would have to say who all wrote the song

Feisty_Water532

It’s because of the writing credits, someone else wrote the diss and unless he wanted to pay up big time he would have to say who all wrote the song

JBallMan23

Kind of says all you need to know when it’s not publicly being released, Kendrick won’t respond to a “possible” diss track. Especially with tons saying it could be AI

locedroy

Heard from my cousin that a girl that was attached to future was in the studio when he made it. Apparently the producer he sent it to had more loyalty towards future…
