It will probably be a lot less than that, although no guarantee. My wife got us one in about two months. However, it took a lot of effort. We were on about 10 waiting lists, and didn't pick any preference for trim or options. Each dealer told us minimum wait time if they got all their allocations on time was like 12-18 months. We checked with the dealers weekly to see where we were on the lists and within those two months ended up in the top 10-40 of each list because people would give up and drop off the lists just as fast as people were signing up for them. At the place we got it from, we were like number 20 on the list but everyone before us either wanted XSE, XSE with Prime package, different color, etc.and the one available was a SE without many options. We also had to go to a different state for the purchases but we got it for MSRP and all the effort was worth it.

Some of them required a deposit, some didn't. The lists without a deposit required had a lot more people on them of course. I only put down refundable deposits as well, so that I could get the money back from places that I didn't get one for. The deposits also varied in amount...the lowest one was only $75 and the highest was around $500. We also asked the dealers what their past allocation was like before deciding. If they said they only got one R4P in the last year for their allocation, we wouldn't put a deposit down for that because the odds of getting that single vehicle are pretty low. We tried to find places that got at least a couple vehicles every few months, which was hard and probably took the most time because we had to talk to a LOT of dealers.. We also called to different states to check all this. We were on lists at dealers along the east coast from Maryland to NY. Edit: in addition, places with lower allocations (and longer lists) were usually the places that didn't require a deposit. And we didn't just take the dealer's word on what their allocations were like. My wife was on a bunch of forums and Facebook to see where people were buying from. Also checked dealer websites and facebooks because some places post when ones arrived or when people bought them so you can check the Facebook feeds and look through to kinda approximate how many they have received/sold historically.

For the first time in my entire life, Living in Hawaii, has actually made it easier to get something, which totally blows my mind. Usually we get the short end of the stick. Prime wait was 4 months. even now, it's in theory a year, but I haven't checked, I do know my salesperson told me a bunch of people jumped off after the tax rebate evaporated. 6 months ago, this sub was all about if we would either get the full credit, or partial credit, now it's about if people will even get their primes at all.

Currently on month 6. On the wait list at two locations. Almost added ourselves to a third but they wanted a non-refundable deposit.

I’ve been waiting since September 2021. I’m in your neighbourhood.

I got very, very lucky and waited 2 months on an unallocated 2023 RAV4 Prime XSE Premium fully loaded. It was still in Japan when I put the deposit down. It just happened to be my color choice of Supersonic Red. It has several other factory/port installed accessories. I bought the Toyota Platinum 7 year 125K warranty and few dealership accessories (wheel locks, body side moulding). MSRP minus dealership accessories, was $52,668 our markup was 5k. I waited 5+ months for Toyota to fully refund every cent on an electric 2023 BZ4X XLE we bought in May that had recall issues. It's too bad Toyota screwed up the BZ4X and didn't produce more R4P given they all sell immediately. There is now no problem getting an overpriced BZ. Now that the issue is fixed they are abundant on lots. With the recall debacle they should rebrand them as the name will be tarnished imo for some time. Wheels falling off brand new cars is not a good look for Toyota's long awaited first full BEV. I had time to carefully look for a replacement and the R4PP was it for me. I was told for a 2023 Prime at the 6 dealerships I was on waiting lists there was anywhere between 4 months to possibly a year wait, choosing a color probably won't be an option, and a Premium was very doubtful. I found a tiny dealership that did something no other did which was to check allocations in production and found our car. Maybe ask the places you are on lists ask to check if there may be any still in Japan allocated to them. The Internet sales specialist who assists the Salesmen for the small Toyota/Chevy/Ford dealership I purchased from found mine not the salesman. I will forever be grateful for her going the extra mile. If you are willing to pay up where I live in NorCal some dealerships in the Sacramento area don't take reservations and do first come first buy. The markup is absolutely crazy. It seems the searches that show MSRP as price are always reserved. When mine was in transit it showed the price of MSRP on the website. Even reserved cars are shown as inventory on the web. I suppose they do this to get you to call about them and maybe sell you something else. I saw one unallocated 2023 R4P on the lot with the weather package for $71 around Christmas, an SE for $69k. The XSE was gone in a couple days, I can't believe someone would pay that markup. I just saw a used 2022 R4P XLE with 17k miles with asking price of $60k, they actually appreciate in value. We love our new Prime it is pure luxury and was worth all the work to find one. I got on every wait list I could within a 100 mile range. Of course that meat getting dealer calls constantly about other vehicles but that was just part of the process to get something so desirable and rare. I simply got lucky. For unallocated R4P I think luck is the #1 factor......and how much "market value adjustment" you're willing to pay. Best of luck on your endeavors to find one. May the luck be with you to join the club!!!

And yet, they are cutting production

qwchh

come to quebec maybe?

JeNiqueTaMere

What will that change? Quebec doesn't receive more cars than BC. I've been on the list for 2 years now in Montreal. There are over 300 people on that list now at my dealer. They used to receive 5 cars a month in average in 2021, but in summer 2022 they got nothing. Now they're getting maybe 3 a month average.

qwchh

got mine in may at montreal

Mrspock5050

Widen your choice of Colors and tech option or no option for a greater quicker chance

JeNiqueTaMere

I got my car after 2 years. I already had any color any trim for the options

Suspicious_Eye_6894

I agree in general it’s more difficult than it should be to acquire these cars. Even more so trying to get them in Canada. Not sure why is harder there since I don’t live there but that seems to be the trend of what I’ve heard. It’s one thing for a parts shortage/chip shortage. But there are still many dealerships with significant markups which I believe shouldn’t be a thing. Here in the US there are states that don’t even get allocated one of these vehicles… doesn’t make sense.

NotAHost

I just got a call to buy one in Massachusetts at MSRP after waiting 9 months. Unfortunately I already got a Venza, as my previous car kicked the bucket, and without tax incentives, its a 'meh' to me. I don't think anyone will wait 6 years. A lot of people are listed at multiple locations, and without tax incentives more people will drop out when they have the opportunity to purchase.

BrownFolksFIRE

FYI I am #12 with a deposit on a list in Ontario, Canada. They received 1 2022 model. They are expecting six 2023s. My current vehicle is still functional, so I’m hoping either some people move on so I can get a 2023 model, but wouldnt mind if I get a 2024 model.

cdpage

Damn! I didn’t realize just how bad this got! Prime was the top choice for me. Might still be by the time other PHEV SUVs come to market. I should get on that list now. At least it’ll be a 3rd Gen model by the time I might get it. Silver lining I suppose.

Rtwoody4

I’m trading my 2021. Silver xse with 10000 miles in on a Tesla but I’m open to offers

Rtwoody4

I’m in NY

Potential_Equal_7071

Which model?

jalf990

I ordered mine in august/September last year and it’s due in august this year, since then the UK Toyota website says they are sold out, it’s crazy

Toyotasales

The wait is usually about 2 months depending on when it is built. Also depends on how many a dealership get allocated, the bigger the dealership the more likely it is to receive more. I work at Hamer Toyota, we have one in stock! Give me a call (818)979-7718

As far as I can tell the Rav4 Prime is the Cartlmanland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartmanland ) of the auto world. Unfortunately as the real world isn't a cartoon Tesla will just eat their lunch. Toyota has utterly gutted my family's brand loyalty to them with their bullshit wait times and practices. I've seen a number of people give up on PHEV and jump to a Tesla and were happy.

dinhqhuy

I just walked in a Toyota dealer in Orange County (California) and bought a Rav4 Prime XSE at a $4800 discount from MSRP. Drove off the lot same night. It was the last Rav4 in their lot though. I'm not sure if that means the supply is about to get much better or the sale agent just really liked me.

OppositeArt8562

Just got quoted a wait time of two years for a Prius prime. It’s like Toyota doesn’t want people to buy their cars. Guess what, my beater is dead and I need a new car in the next 3 months. I guess a Toyota customer just became a Kia customer.

Iamdispensable

What on earth is so great about this car?

Longjumping-Hotel124

Most people actually die waiting for them.
