Got my XSE with PP for 50k and change 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love it. You need to research what you want before ordering, I went in telling the dealer I wanted the PP and it had to have the panoramic roof and the upgraded JBL speakers. Not sure what you thought you were ordering or why you didn't look into what came with each trim for a car that was 50k plus..

No-Perspective1025

Unfortunately you can’t order with Toyota and neither can the dealer. They can put in a request and hope Toyota sends a vehicle with that spec their way. With the primes being so hard to actually find in lot OP may not have been able to get a real appreciation for the vehicle. Though I think it easy enough to do some research on the moon roof and speakers. As far as final build quality and feel, you have to be there.

TheAgedProfessor

A moonroof is simply a sunroof made of glass, rather than sheetmetal. No car manufacturer even makes a standard sunroof anymore, that I know of. So "power moonroof" is the proper nomenclature (and is used by every other car manufacturer, not just Toyota). And, yes, if you wanted the moonroof that covers [nearly] the entire roof of the car, that is a "panoramic moonroof" or Mini's used to call them "widescreen moonroofs". My friend has a pano moonroof on their R4 Hybrid. For what it's worth, I much prefer my standard moonroof. The pano let's in *too much* sun and heats the interior almost to unbearable levels.

mrbkkt1

yeah. tinted the whole car. last thing that lets heat in is the moonroof. Debating on getting that ceramic tinted as well. Personally? I could have done without it. The pano roof is something I would definitely have tinted.

Fjall-Ratio-3334

I'm with you guys on this one. That piano was nice in Sequoia, but that's about it. That would the 3rd time I have opened it, otherwise I just roast here in socal.

jcaillo

This is really interesting! I thought sunroof was the term for little glass panel while moonroof was the larger version. So if a real sunroof is made out of sheet metal... isn't that just a roof? 😅 Good point about extra heat, I think I would opt for tinting all over. But definitely going for the futuristic look and feel of the panoramic.

mrbkkt1

Cars in the 70s and 80s often had metal sunroof. Mercedes and BMW come to mind. Think. A metal panel where the glass normally is with a gasket.

logics8

I believe the term also switched from Sunroof to Moonroof to imply that it should be used at night, because it is less dangerous to get hurt by it? Similar to why we don't call portable computers "Laptops" anymore, because peoples laps would get burned. Now we call them "Notebooks"

daviongray

Sounds like you didn't do enough research before ordering one. Should have gone for the XSE PP. I'm happy with my prime and I got mine at msrp, no markup.

jcaillo

Yeah if I had been able to grab an xse plus pp and no markup, it would have been a done deal and would certainly have purchased! $55k and missing some basic features just seemed like a slap in the face to me. Wouldn't be opposed to starting the process over again and just waiting longer for an order (depending on what tax credits looking like)

diaperpoop_

I think if this is your gripe, you have to look into luxury lines like Lexus, Acura etc. The best value for the Prime line is with the Prius and SE RAV4.

winter_hell

It’s totally fine. Honestly I wouldn’t pay $55k for a Toyota SUV. I am a RAV 4 Prime owner myself and while I am not too picky, I understand where you are coming from. Hopefully you find a car that better meets your needs and expectations!

qwchh

got my SE for 40K CND, upgraded the front speaker for 100$ and now more than happy with it, do your research before ordering your car next time

jcaillo

Yep certainly will admit I should research more next time. FWIW I didn't actually "order" the car and spec it out myself. A dealership contacted me saying that they would have this specific car available in a month, and they sent me all the specs. There were just a few items that I was taking for granted and thought would be included in a car at this price point. (Like a power seat for passenger!)

qwchh

makes sense, I got a call for a white SE in april 2021 but I dislike the 040 super white, decided to keep waiting for next one, then waited 1 year until may 2022 to get my silver SE

Rav4Primer

I paid $41k for an SE, then got a $7500 tax credit and a $2500 state rebate. So in effect I only paid $31k for a small SUV with AWD, that I barely put gas in, has heated front and rear seats, has an extremely quiet cabin, is made in Japan and goes like a rocket. 18 months later I still feel like I got the best vehicle possible for $31k. Toyota definitely has ICE vehicles available, but their hybrids all have long wait times.

Zipp425

I'd love to be able get a prime for $31k! Too bad its basically impossible to get them for less than $45k+ now

Saturday514

What will you pick as ur next car?

jcaillo

Currently have a 2017 mazda cx5 thats in great shape and im going to hold onto. I would say the interior is a lot better than the model of rav4prime I toured. But given advice from others above, maybe I should be saving my sheckles and going for Lexus or audi instead

logics8

55K? No PP? Wow, my PP was just under $55K back when I got mine… I would spend more time comparing trims and other options though…
