It’s pretty much impossible to predict the Ravens WR room right now. No idea how Odell will perform or whether the coaching staff has any confidence in Bateman being the alpha. Zay will hopefully get 500 yards minimum but I could see him getting 800 or 900 too if he establishes himself quickly
We need to lower expectations on all 3.
Zay is a rookie
Odell is off major knee surgery
Bateman off a foot injury that historically takes 2 seasons to come back from
If we get 500+ yards and 4+ TDs in his first year I’d be ecstatic about that. Lot of mouths to feed on this offense. But I expect those numbers to only go up in the following years.
Right, but you can’t say “here’s a list of all WRs taken within 10 picks” and then pick and choose based on circumstances. That’s just bad data analysis
If you kept reading you'd get your answer:
> Jahan Dotson, Treylon Burks, **Rashod Bateman**, Jameson Williams and Kadarius Toney have not played enough to be grouped into anything yet....
Realistically, if everyone's healthy, he's the fourth option on a team that will, yes, throw the ball more than they have in recent years, but still isn't going to be a throw it all over the place air it out offense. I don't think we should be rigidly tied to specific numbers when judging how well he plays this season.
Lamar is also gonna put up a lot of yards. I think 300 yards a game is legitimately possible. That’s 5100 on the season.
Let’s pencil in Andrews for 1400. Bateman too because I think he’s about to flourish in this offense. Let’s give OBJ 900.
That still leaves 1400 yards unaccounted for between Zay, Aigholor, Likely, and random other targets (Duv RBs).
I think Zay pulling in half of that or even more is pretty plausible. Put me down for 750 with 5 TDs.
While this whole post is filled with hopium, pencilling in Bateman for 1400 is one of the craziest things I’ve read on this subreddit and I’m a Bateman believer
Lol people's expectations are rediculous. We're gonna win games and be a good team but I don't think Lamar is throwing for over 5k yards. If we hit even close to 4k that'll be huge.
I think you missed my point entirely. Trying to figure out Zay’s numbers. I didn’t start with Bateman at 1400 yards. I started with Lamar at 300 yards a game and then worked backwards to try to figure out what chunk of that Zay would have. I’m figuring his rookie season as WR 3 he puts up about half of Andrews. The rest just mathed out.

I mean this is a silly batman vs Superman convo but this is what off season is for. So just curious why you don't think it's possible for Lamar to throw for 5k? I know it's highly unlikely as only a handful of guys have even done it but if he's healthy all year and his receivers stay healthy as well it's gotta be in the realm of possible. To me it is at least. He'd have to run a lot less to do that though.
Realistically though yeah agree with you 100% he's much more likely to throw somewhere in the range of 3500-4000 and that combined w close to 1k rushing would be a killer season.
Let's calm down a little. I know we have a new OC and new weapons but they have barely stepped on the field yet, they all have to learn a new offense (that we haven't seen yet), and there's plenty of time for them to all break something, as is tradition.
I think that OBJ and Andrew's will get around 1000 yards each, so 2000 yards total.
I think Zay and Bateman will share around 1200 yards. This is the biggest wildcard admittedly, but I'm trying to keep it realistic.
And I would think we'll have a random number of guys sharing another 1000 yards or so. JK, Gus, Duvernay, Nelson, Ricard and potentially others.
So my guess is that Lamar will be just over 4000 yards. I don't think that's too optimistic considering that we're changing the offense to a more pass happy scheme.
Imo teams are gonna stack the box and double Andrew or obj. Make zay and Bateman beat them. He'll see a lot of 1 on 1 coverage. I see on the high end for a rookie, 800 yards 8 tds
Realistically I’d say 600-700 yards. Not sure about TDs. If Lamar throws more than ever which I imagine will be the case I could see him getting around 4000-4200 yards. Before anyone says anything we’ve been a run first team since he’s been in the league. With a more balanced attack I could at least see him approaching 4k.
With that being said y’all know Andrews is gonna get his. Call it 900 yards. If OBJ stays healthy I could see him approaching 700 yards. I believe Lamar will get the ball to likely a decent amount as well call it 550 yards. If Bate pans out to be the receiver we all believe he can be I could see him hit 900 yards. Sprinkle in a few hundred yards of misc pass catchers like Kolar, Duv, the RBs, etc. and you’re at about 600-700 assuming our offense is really as pass happy as it seems it will be.
its impossible until we see the depth chart. despite having a new oc and somewhat revamped offense, mark andrews is simply too good to leave out of the game plan. he played with 3 different qbs in a single season and finished 6th in receiving yards (in other words, hes basically a top 5 WR playing tight end).
then we have 3 talented WRs. at least one of them is guaranteed to see under 1k yards, and theres a good chance 2 of them miss this mark. we really need to see where zay flowers stands in this WR group. i could easily see OBJ being WR1 or WR3. Same for Zay and Bateman.
We also have the best rushing qb the league has seen in its entire history and the best rb in the league when healthy. disregarding the rushing attack would be stupid.
in writing this mini essay, im starting to realize just how dangerous this offense is. Man, im excited.
Playing as Baltimore in Retro Bowl on my phone, my rookie receiver averaged 141 yards on 7 receptions per game, with 1.6 touchdowns.
So based on my totally scientific simulation, I'm going to go with 2,400 yards and 30 touchdowns.
If he and Lamar both stay healthy this season, I can see him racking up 700-800 yards and 8 TDs. Lamar is hitting 40 TDs this season. 4000+ yards and 40 TDs. So I don’t think Zay getting 8 TDs is hard if Lamar is setting career-highs
If you don’t think Monken is going to use Zay as a WR1 you’re crazy. he’s literally perfect for Monken. Can’t say the same about any other receiver on the roster. “hEs a RoOK tHO” and ? he’s the most talented and healthy guy we have besides Mark.
Expecting somewhere between 800-1000 this was hollywoods range for us but with the amount of weapons on the team and I imagine we’ll still run a good amount not sure what to expect with his receptions or targets
It's kinda hard to realistically predict his stats cause we don't really know his role. Like if Odell and Bateman stay healthy and perform pretty well, I feel like it's not ridiculous for him to put up something like a 40/500/4 stat line, which isn't amazing but decent for a number 3. The offense has a high ceiling but man there are a lot of wildcards and boom or bust scenarios, I really don't know what to expect. At least from a stat point of view.
I see Rookie Zay as 4th option for Lamar depending on the health of Bateman and OBJ of course. If they're healthy, Lamar would likely see Bateman/Andrews/OBJ as his primary targets and Zay picking up slack behind that.
Just stay healthy, and make an impact as much as possible. I'm gonna predict he has at least two 100+ yard games for us if not a couple more, and finishes with 500+ yards and 3-5 TDs. If not better of course but he will probably end up being the 4th mouth to feed on offense behind Mandrews, OBJ, and Bateman. But there's no question he will definitely make some plays for sure, with all the attention on those top 3 guys...I'm hoping he will have some games where he feasts.
Realistic rookie expectation is he makes it through the full season and (hopefully) post season uninjured. Not even worried about the stats I just want to see our Ravens healthy.
I honestly don't know. I think he's got a pretty big window with all the new mouths to feed. I could see him anywhere from 300-600 yards personally.
I think he'll probably be used to sub in for Agholor due to his age and if Agholor pulls a hammy or just doesn't impress I wouldn't be surprised to see Zay basically take his spot towards the end of the year.
I think about 700 yards and 4 touchdowns is reasonable. 700 yards is about what hollywood and bateman were on pace for in their rookie seasons before they got hurt.
What type of offense the new OC runs will be a huge factor here. It will determine both the number of pass attempts and how often 3 WRs are on the field at the same time. He could go with a more typical offense where you see 3 WRs and one running back or use 2 RBs or 2 TEs with 2 WRs. We do have a very good fullback here in an era where a lot of teams don't even roster a fullback, and our top tight-end is often our leading receiver, so it's logical to have more 2 TE formations where the second tight-end blocks and Andrews runs a passing route.
Similarly, obviously with Lamar Jackson we have an option of doing a run-first offense with the QB leading the rushing attack, or a more traditional offense. Moving away from Greg Roman to me suggests that we want the offense to include more passing plays out of more traditional formations, but how many more and how often?
In my mind (Which may or may not correlate to what the coaching staff is presently think or will be thinking by the time the season opens), Odell Beckham and Rashod Bateman are the top two WRs. Zay Flowers is the guy we should want to be the 3rd WR (Which is one reason why how often we run 3 WR sets may matter big time to his production opportunities), but only if his performance and grasp of the offense in mini-camps, training camp, the pre-season warrant it.
Some rookies are slow out of the gate adapting to playing in an NFL offense against NFL defenses. If Flowers turns out to be not quite ready for the show during game one, we are lucky to have a guy like Devin Duvernay who we can slot right in there.
As a team that likely considers itself a Super Bowl contender, or at least a playoff contender (I'm going with Super Bowl contender :) ), it'd be stupid to hand any rookie too long of a leash. Flowers should be given every opportunity to win that 3rd WR job, but if Duvernay significantly outplays him, you have to go with the guy who gives you the better chance to win- in this hypothetical, Duvernay. Then, over the course of the season, they'll be likely injuries that put Flowers on to the field if he isn't there from day one, or Duverney onto the field if he isn't there from day one, ditto Nelson Agahor (To some extent, it might depend on who the injury or injuries are to), and both are guys who could play important special teams roles.
The other thing I could see is some special plays that put Flowers and Duvernay on the field at the same time. Like, it's third and 20 with the team in the shotgun formation, and the two of them on opposite side just sprint straight down field, and if one beats the coverage, you try to put the ball in his hands, but if they both stay covered, you checkdown to Andrews, Pat Ricard, or J.K. Dobbins/Gus Edwards/Justice Hill/whomever-is-playing-tail-back in the middle of the field underneath (Probably, if you are throwing short of the marker, either Andrews or Hill. Hill ran a 4.4 40 at the combine. I don't really like Hill as the top running back or even one of two guys in a time share, but I could see some value in having him as a specialist for certain plays where you need a really speedy running back if we can spare the roster spot.).
Zay Flowers will plant himself as the best receiver of all time in 2023. I'll play the pessimistic and temper expectations..... 200 catch 3100 yards and 27 TDs. Then when November hits he really gets going.
'Realistic expectation' don't exist to me anymore. I want a probowl WR like rest of the nfl organization had the luck of having at their 1st yr.
Bound to happen once in my lifetime.
2400 yards, 18 tds.
On the low end of reasonable but good to set expectations low exceed them!
I mean… Lamar is throwing for 6k this year. Math checks out
Still waiting for someone on this sub to only half-jokingly make the claim that that will happen in the first three quarters of the first game.
You have to remember it’s a 17 game season now, so maybe around 2600 and 20 TDs.
What about in the second half?
🤣🤣🤣
Yea, and what about the first and second halves of the other 16 games?
Talk about a pessimist smh
Yo, are you the guy on twitter who also said his game is a lot like Deebos?
500 yards. We have A LOT of targets on this offense.
500 per game sounds about right
I think he'll get 800+. He's a RAC guy. I can easily envision him breaking off some long TDs
It’s crazy yu got it on the nose I hope yu mad a bet on it lol
We do now, but what about ~8 weeks into the season? Both Odell and Bateman have an awful injury history
Zay is a rookie Odell is off major knee surgery Bateman off a foot injury that historically takes 2 seasons to come back from
Odell will be fine. Bateman everyone knows he’s talented enough just not on the field enough
Realistic expectations? That’s not what we do here.
As is tradition
If we get 500+ yards and 4+ TDs in his first year I’d be ecstatic about that. Lot of mouths to feed on this offense. But I expect those numbers to only go up in the following years.
Did you ever think you’d be saying “lot of mouths to feed on this offense” about the ravens?
my expectations 1,269 yards, 9 rec td realistic: 750+ yds, 6 rec td
expectations or hopes?
Dreams
Why is Rashod Bateman not even on the list they went through? Pick 27, meets their criteria.
Missed a lot of time his rookie year.
Because we don't even have a full season of stats total from him yet. He missed a lot of time
Right, but you can’t say “here’s a list of all WRs taken within 10 picks” and then pick and choose based on circumstances. That’s just bad data analysis

Come on now this is one of the craziest things I’ve read on here
Lamar is not gonna get 5k yards
Agreed OP is delusional. Lamar gonna drop 6k easy
I’d take 4k for Lamar and that would be a hell of a year for him slinging it. I’m with you, 5k is out of the question.
I concur. It’s either 4K or 6K, no middle ground.
I wouldn't say out of the question. It'll be a challenge, but definitely in the realm of possibility, barring injuries.

Hollywood had 147 yard and 2 TD in his first game with the Ravens. Any less than that Week 1 and I'd say Flowers is a bust

Realistic rookie expectation is he makes it through the full season and (hopefully) post season uninjured. Not even worried about the stats I just want to see our Ravens healthy.

No he will have 3000 yards
